Also as a side note since it's been a massive help, the youtubers Fizhy and Jorraptor both let me use some of their AC Valhalla footage which has been super helpful for the last few months, the two of those guys make some AC Content too, I'll link them below.

AC died with ezio for me .. but was reborn with origins ... the new rpg sistem really revived the game ... it was the same bullshit every year .. now finnally we have a game with good storyline and better gameplay :)
@@MitzyGodsmack For me, Origins is the best AC in terms of RPG because it's simple but yet it works so well and the game is amazing and Valhalla seems to be quite good too from all we've seen so far but fuck Odyssey that game's a total shitshow.

Assassins Creed wouldnt have survived if it repeated itself over and over again, which it did till Origins. Who wants to play the same sh't all over again? Fanboys can just go play the old games if they want repetitive storylines.
@@eurech We stood for a creed, a creed forced us to hide from plain sight and do the job silently , Its hard to see and hear new players praising second generation assassin's creed and criticise old,Evey good thing should come to an end. So does ubisoft, right?
Ubisofts real name: Abstergo
Sorry but that is very scary idea considering what Abstergo did in the games. However Ubisoft took a lot of the idea of humans being slaves to aliens from ancient Sumerian texts, so they must have a pretty expansive research department.
@@sykune I refuse to believe that Ubisoft doesn’t have an actual historian on their research team

wait, this was 2 hours ago? h u h
Exactly I love that the modern day is finally the centre of the story again.
Just finished the game after 98 hours. For some reason i cant trigger the the final Order of the Ancient mission. Even though i already. Killed all 44 members before i ended the storyline
@@himothy9871 Have you done the last alliance?
Valhalla was literally a copy an paste of oddysey ffss looool
35:38 "One employee, who was particularly interesting, characterized and well developed". Lmao. That is some top level sarcasm.
Imagine thinking a faceless, nameless, abstergo employee was meant to be well developed.
Its crazy how off the rails the story gets once Desmond dies. Them not substituting in an actual "main" protagonist and instead making "YOU, the gaming consumer!!" the main character is where the modern day story died.
They could have brought it back with Layla, Layla in origins really was nothing special; it was better than what we’d had before but not reminiscent of Desmond. But Odyssey was a disaster with the modern day, they skipped a whole year between origins and odyssey and the dlcs were just spectacularly awful.
Let’s hope and have faith that Valhalla will close out Layla’s story and make room to bring in Desmond’s son into the AC game universe as a modern day playable character to bring the franchise back to its true roots with the Miles family
@@Newera1047 I really think this game can tie up Layla’s story well. After that I hope it’ll be something really new. Darby saying that this’ll bring a lot of older stories back to bring them together makes it sound like it’s a slight conclusion.

"Yes the main antagonist of Assassin's Creed died in a comic you've never heard of killed by character you've never heard of"
... Ouch... That hurts... Luckily modern times doesn't matter for the story anymore
And that’s why the game has become trash, they tried to cater to the people that didn’t want to engage with the modern stuff, and put out trash. You are the modern protagonist? Lol
@@bsgcato Are you accusatory towards me? Sorry, tone is lost, so I can't really tell. But, what I meant is, I loved the modern day involvment, for me AC has always been a Sci-Fi series, and it was part of that. But from Black Flag on, it was irrelevant, so this part of the story being concluded out of the games doesn't matter, is what I was getting at.

Exactly my friend recently started playing Assassin's Creed and he doesn't even know who the Templars are. It's kinda sad because he's playing the most recent games and doesn't know this stuff. I like how this justifies my decision to stop caring about the story after 3. At this point you have to wonder why Ubisoft still call this franchise assassins' creed, like serious they could have just made a new game franchise at this point with how far they are from where they started and how far the stories head is up its own ass.
3 was my last one and I still think it's the best. The story isn't cohesive any more and so I think I'm done.

It was a recounting of Genesis
@@sevenwhatuknow I think its more than that, yes that is the foundation of the story. What I find intriguing is the secret war behind closed doors. That is the part I am talking about
@@donaldcharles3331 I agree. It's at least the first 3 games were describing Genesis. Then they added on different features such as the assassin's and templars. I've done a fair amount of research on this topic over the years. I found a religion just called "mystery religion", which I found connects ancient Sumerian to the Greco-Roman. And it was a secret society that retained lost information and knowledge. And I'm sure it is still practices to this day via societies like Freemasons. Just like how the assassin's and templars know what's going on with the Esu(which were the Sons of God mentioned in the Bible and created Eden and Adam and Eve thru hybridization). On odyssey - I honestly thought this should have been a standalone game. Not part of the AC franchise at all.
I didn't like Odyssey at first, but kept playing it and it turned into my favorite assassins creed game. I'm currently playing Vahalla, but having a really hard time getting into it. I keep going back and playing Odyssey.
I have played AC since the first one. For me the main lore stopped once Desmond died. So I enjoyed Odyssey for what it was- the best Xena: Warrior Princess game we're likely to get.
My theory us that desmond faked his death to fool the templars. He will come back and the final game will be an asassins creed that takes place in the present or not too distant future.
Imagine being this underrated as a youtuber when you make videos like this
This vid is one years old ( and I bet no one would actually see this) but this one video has helped explain so much that toms of others just can’t, what an amazing creator
Imagine if Desmond wasn't killed off and he had to find a sync nexus for Edward, Haythem, and Connor, like he did for Altair and Ezio. We could have a rogue like game playing as a young Haythem, and show Connor with his son, and maybe even see the events of liberation from his point of view.
There's a twist I was fully expecting that never came : Abstergo is actually Assassins...
Hear me out, Basically, with how hard we kick templar's asses thorough all games, I'm surprised they've been winning, or even SURVIVING this long ! My idea was that, with the Templars finally defeated, the assassins would set out to make the world a better place... and then suffer "creative differences"...
One branch of the assassins would stick to the old creed at any cost, whilst another would adapt their method to the modern world, creating a schism in the order that, given enough time, turns into a full civil war on how to better the world !
I mean, look at Abstergo logo, does it look anything like the Templar symbol, or more like a modern take on the assassin's ? And before you state it could never happen : Al Mualim, leader of the order, fell into a mindset very similar to the Templars'... So did Abbas... The worm was in the apple from the beginning...
They probably made it not look like the cross so people wouldn't accosiate them sith the templars
@@deadlydino15 Sorry to be an entittled brat but... "Sure ! Being associated with a knightly order from 5 centuries ago would be such a damnable offence !"
Since the Assassins basically figured out Abstergo=Templar within a month or so...
@@pierre-mariecaulliez6285 yes but abstergo uses the vr simulation they get from the animus and turn it into a game, then selling said game, which you could see clearly in black flag. Which means anyone who plays said game will know what the assassins and templars are, and what they want to do. Like if you found out that Amazon was secretly part of a cult planning to rule the world I would care. By selling the game from the animus and then giving it to normal people they are telling them what the templars are. They probably don't think they are real of course but if they found out, that would be very bad for abstergo. Also the logo being a triangle doesn't mean it is a assassins logo.

@@WalshieYT1 can’t wait to see you cover it!
I'd love to see an AC in South America set when the Mayan, Azteca, Incans, and conquistadors are there. A different culture in each group and decisions made can decide if your character wants to go with the Assassins and help the natives or with the Templars. The time period has never been shown in a video game that I know of. The mythology is interesting. The golden city of El Dorado would be beautiful.
And I'd put one of the pieces of Eden hidden in South America with another with the conquistadors. I want to see a showdown between two pieces. We've hunted them down individually but what happens when each group has one and they fight it out using them? Or what happens when they've all been collected?
I feel like the games have moved so far from the original storyline it's causing even longtime fans like me to lose interest.
I miss Odyssey. Valhalla was disappointing in how it abandoned alot of what made Odyssey and Origins so amazing.
44:19
Thank you! This part literally felt like a slap in the face after what the series was building up to.
A good analogy would be how marvel fans would have felt if captain marvel had defeated thanos, after introducing her one movie prior.
Ps. For me assassins creed went from 1-3. Every other game (may have a great story, may have great gsmeplay) is not true AC
I can’t let you say Odyssey was a bad game. After spending dozens of hours on it, I’d even say that it a a wonderful experience. For me the story, the characters, the gameplay mechanics, the open world, etc, almost everything was on point…HOWEVER, after having also played Origins and after seeing all those videos about the lore of the series, well…I can’t argue with the fact that it was a pretty bad AC game 😅
I understand why some people felt betrayed by this Odyssey now…If like me you don’t care that much/you just like the Greek world and mythology then you can enjoy the game without a problem, but I get why long time fans of the franchise would not like it
Here is the thing. Ubi is perfectly capable of making a historical aesthetic combat simulator that's fun an exciting... But misappropriating the AC franchise to do something very not AC is quite questionable and will not fly for some and that's fair
Yeah, it's one of those games that would benefit from a title change. Were it named something like "Mercenary simulator bc" or something, it would not have half the expectations stuck to it and would do better. And even setting it up in the same universe as assassin's creed without it being an AC game would work, ubi has done it before with watch dogs. I really like Odyssey, it's one of my favourite rpgs, but it's not a great assassin's creed game
@@yiklongtay6029 The issue is the phrasing you all go about it. There is a little bit of phrasing you all should start using or else developers and the IP owners will write off your "critique" as just disgraced old fans who are just too busy being anal. But I understand the idea of wanting to get back to the old cannon and I think the ugly reality that most fans are gonna just have to swallow is that. If Ubi go back to the old games is that they should be greatful and try and promote it as much as they can. If one comes out. As the only way ubisoft is gonna commit to an older styled AC. Is honestly if it can come close to the income that AC:V or AC:O did if it cannot an ugly reality is that the old style of AC games could very well get perma iced. Harder than what Anthem under EA has gotten.
Man! We pretty much feel the same about this game. I loved it and it was my favorite until after Revelations. I felt like when they left the firm idea of the assassins vs the templars the game lost what the first 4 games built.
That's not even when it went downhill, they just exhausted the story of purely assassins Vs templars and went to make something alongside that story where the assassins actual philosophy is more involved, which is freedom and peace, which is what every assassin fights for up untill about unity and origins, but the problem is they went too far into it with oddysey and Valhalla, the assassin Vs templars thing is like actual history within those games, and is not as involved in gameplay
i haven't played the earlier ac games, just origins, odyssey and now Valhalla. I really liked odyssey (still do) but now after watching this i get why people don't like it. Even with Valhalla, the sort of mystical assassin vibe is much stronger than in odyssey. The earlier games seem to have been much more about the actual creed and lore surrounding the Isu, which wasn't in odyssey AT ALL... Btw, awesome video!
Man the fact that desmond's part took up more than half of the video, yes he had the most games I believe but still, the fact that Unity through odyssey take up like less than 10 mins is hilarious.
Over a decade later I still don’t understand why the modern story needs to exist lol it would’ve been far more compelling to have the old assassins stories simply be told and then ubi can sprinkle in izu stuff if they wanted
I never finished the fate of Atlantis cause I really couldn’t be asked. so that’s for recapping that :)

I loved Odyssey! It was my return to AC after my last being Black Flag. But I gotta tell you - I just beat Valhalla and I’d call it 3 times better. Honestly, you gotta play it after Odyssey and you’ll see what I mean. Exploration was great in Odyssey, but Valhalla really ups the game!
I love AC Odyssey. It got me back into this lame ass story which for me was over when Desmond Miles died. I quit playing with AC III and after playing Odyssey I am excited for Valhalla and more AC to come. Idk why people hate on Odyssey so much, maybe just because they're told to by people on RUclips.
Exactly , I for years left assassin's creed after the 3 one too , and was bitching about how ac origins new gameplay was boring looking , but this year I saw the game of the year for ac origins at 13 $ on psn and decided to give it a shot , after 200 hours into the game , I was so wrong to complain about the new gameplay , I was hooked and when I bought odyssey for 15$ I wanted to see why people hated so much , but no , I like the gameplay of odyssey more than origins , I also put 200 hours on odyssey , the only thing worse on odyssey is the story , it's not bad , but origins has a better story , but odyssey has better gameplay. Plus all the content that was put on odyssey , was a plus , people bitch about all the game for the wrong reasons
i totally lost the story after they killed desmond... i really dislike their decision to remove the character in the “real life” and have some random people playing him, they should have just gone with another main character if they wanted to kill the first

Heh, my favorite moment in this entire franchise is when Ezzio meets his uncle Mario and he's like "Ezzio! It's a me, Mario!" That couldn't have been coincidence. XD
29:07. Bastard had zero idea that Desmond has become skilled with the Apple. He simply lacked the knowledge, which is nothing new.
38:30. Psychological warfare. That is a thing. And it did have an effect.
41:15. Come on, man. Its in her computer. The HR-8 was a new model Abstergo made field usage that she was part of the team that made it. Then again, it has been a while.
45:03. I am honestly surprise you were able to keep your voice cool there. I would've gone on an incoherent rant on that. And now Ubisoft is like 'you want the true canon, read the novel.' Talk about a middle finger to the fans.
I am hopeful that Valhalla will steer the franchise back to its proper course. Although it will be a long trip as Origins and ESPECIALLY Odyssey really went off road with Assassin's Creed. The game to come AFTER Valhalla will probably be the one to really feel like a return to form.
Even if Vidic thought Desmond was incapable of using the apple his plan feels awfully contrived all for the sake of creating a poignant moment.
I understand that psychological warfare is a thing but sending the Assassins 250 year old footage of Shay just feels silly and rather ineffective when Otso Berg has the means to hunt and kill the Assassins.
I'm aware details of Layla's animus are in her computer but it's still not explained. For something so game changing it's not given any time or explanation outside of "Layla made it with Abstergo"

Imagine parkouring through vine covered toppled skyscrapers. It would be amazing, and guns could be rare or absolete.
Would want to make the game take place like 30-45 years after the apocalypse.
Also in Valhalla "The Reader" or Desmond and Lacy actually hint at all of this as a direction they should start looking.
Maybe they want to finish the story arch of Juno vs. Loki in the next one before they do the alternate timeline?
Assassins Creed was the first game I ever got. I think it came with my XBOX 360. Initially, I didn't like it that much because I sucked at it but it ended up being my favorite game series growing up. In 2014 i stopped playing video games due to college, but this is making me want to get back into it
I'm glad this exists because the overarching story of this franchise is hard to follow at best.
But how many people play these games for the *present-day* sequences? I've always thought they grind the (IMO) much more compelling historical protagonists' stories-not to mention the primary gameplay loop-to a grinding and jarring halt.
Also Odyssey was excellent. Narrative choice is a boon, even if it stretches an already extremely-thin conceit even further.
This was a great recap but fuck, man…I liked Odyssey. It got me back into the series with it's gameplay and gorgeous environments. I felt it was getting stale by the time I finished Connor and gave it up.
If the fact that the first half of this video is literally just the first 4 games in the series doesnt say something about the lore progression, idk what does
Assasins Creed and Resident Evil is what i grew up on
Hey Walshie, thanks again for helping me out with my blow up dolls mate
Giggity
10:22 Mario Auditore 😂😂😂
Ezio: “Wait, who are you?”
Mario: “It’s-a me, Mario!”
16:46 🤣🤣🤣 shaun probably was so pissed this was his reward for figuring out the final boss of riddles lmao
Man that ac3 remaster lighting is awwwwful
*Ubisoft wants Eivor to be a female*
Me: fate can be altered
I don't undertsand why people hate Odyssey.. its a great game.. yes, the game does not have the creed of assassins in it.. but let's be real, most of AC games are talking about Isu(and their technology).. and in timeline, Odyssey is before AC Origin.. so, the game(Odyssey) still have Isu technology in it.. and their descendant are ones of the people in AC Origins, where the Creed of assassins were created. It is still a continuation.. just because there are no Assassins in it, the motives are still the same, trying to find Isu artifact and prevent Abstergo from getting it. I had fun playing AC games since AC 1, but Odyssey kept making me coming to play it everyday, I love this game.
Remember when Assassins Creed was all about hide in plane sight , hidden blades and as a last resort is combat, than raiding villages and wearing tatoos, gods and other things?
If I ran the saga, there would be so many different things in modern day's story from "AC 3" forward (and a bit in a few of the pasts):
-Desmond woud have had a daughter with Lucy some time before "AC: Brotherhood", but due to the war between both orders they decided to give her to adoption (Lucy planed to go back for her after her betrayal and before the Templars'satelite plan);
-The modern day story in "AC 4 and Rogue" would occur when she acquired the age of 18 years old (she would be a very cult and philosophical girl, who wished to fix the world's problems, but for now, she would work in a program of her sponsered by Abstergo university, in which the students were allowed to try the Animus in their headquarters in Montreal in order to revolutionise the academic teaching) and unfortunately it would be a bit similar to the one we're already familiar with (I'm sorry), the difference being that she would see both the best and the worst of the Templar ideology before being rescued by the Assassins
-The one from "AC: Unity" (which by the way would see Arno's history improved) and "AC: Syndicate", would have her see both the best and the worst of the Assassins'ideology, leaving her divided as to which side of this war she should choose;
-The one from "AC: Origins" would have her, after seeing Bayek's story, consider the perspective of both the "Order of the Ancients" and Aita's, and that maybe humans were indeed not deserving of their freedom, and that maybe the Isu should have been allowed to be kept in power, and that the humans, instead of imposing their freedom, should have only asked for it, and the story would end with some sort of vision of this "Reader" telling her to see Kassandra's story;
-Instead of being called "Assassin's Creed: Odyssey", it would have been called "Odyssey: an Assassin's Creed story", and the system of choice would have been removed from the game, creating only one strory that ended, in the the main one, with Alexios and the mother being alive at the end and, in the second dlc, with Persephone taking over both Atlantis and Hell with Kassandra's indirect help, giving her a sense of appreciation for the human kind (this would be incredibly important since that instead of being simple simulations, those three realms would actually be some sort of Matrix created by the Isu);
-Juno wouldn't have been killed in a comic;
-Desmond's daughter would be the one to join The Reader at the end of this game, but the disaster they would be trying to avoid would be Juno's victory.
Ezio the noble, thank you for the glorious video
This just makes me realise how bad the modern day after 2012 is
I honestly stopped caring about AC when Desmond died. I was invested in the over arching plot.
Then Black Flag comes out and I thought it was fun but the fact I was now a beta tester was cringe.
Then I skipped to Syndicate years later cause I love victorian settings and saw they were still doing the person talking at you thing and I quiet right then and there.
The only reason I went to play Unity was cause it was free and I played it for the multiplayer with my friends.
As someone who had never ever played this game and scared to start cause there’s so much to know, this video kinda helped
Black flag was the last good assassin creed ever made it went down hill form their
Syndicate was good too but gameplay wise
And no...it gets even sillier with the valhalla installment. Clearly. Its just crazy lol Nice vid tho. CIAO!
Imagine if Ubisoft genuinely are templars and the assassin's creed games are used to make people think otherwise and fun fact, the templar knights were a creed back in the times of the early modern era and middle ages
Thanks for doing this, I played the first two games and recently started a playthrough of Valhalla but was a little lost as to the AC lore. Great recap
I love how this video explains the lore without ruining the games for me
Ayo?
Really great video - I'm currently nearing the end of AC Valhalla which is the only AC game I've played.
Being from England though - your accent confuses the hell out of me :'D Like a mixture of South West - South East
Syndicate was so bad that I stopped playing after a few hours. I had hopes for Origins and Odyssey and purchased both, but never got around to playing them. After watching this video I dunno if I even want to now. I did play Valhalla though and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Because my name is Desmond, everyone(around my age of 6-8 back around 2009) would refer to Assassins Creed after learning my name. It was honestly cool cause everyone thought I had Desmond Miles Skills.
Anybody watching the story because they’ve out grown the franchise because it changed so much ?
asansinns creyd is my fayvret frenchoise - already got me hooked, hahah. thanks for that epic summary
13:06 this exact scene was re explored in Valhalla is mind blowing.(in jotunheimr arc)
Wtf after watching ur vid I realised these games have devolved. Assassin’s creed is a lost identity
Exactly, after AC3 since 2012, the true story of AC, the Modern Day, is simply gone, abandoned due to Ubisoft's indecisiveness, indifference and greed.
Late to the party, huh
You just realized?
It hasn’t “lost its identity”. Just bc it has changed in idk 13 years (!!!) doesn’t mean it’s lost. Modern day? Definitely. But AC isn’t lost. Origins gave the birth of the creed! Valhalla is tying in Origins and AC1
34:56 A-AURORA BOREALIS!? At THIS time of DAY, at THIS time of YEAR, in THIS part of the country, LOCALIZED entirely within your KITCHEN!?!?
This was brilliant! Thank you
I loved odyssey. Don’t know why people are so obsessed with the “outside the animus” part of the game. I usually just skip those parts best I can, they get in the way of the actual game
at this point I wonder why the Isu's doesn't just make a rocket ship and be interplanetary species. seem unthinkable.
The first assassin's creeds reminded me of how I always die from viewpoints trying land on haystacks sigh* love it
44:18
This PHYSICALLY hurt me.
