Also as a side note since it's been a massive help, the youtubers Fizhy and Jorraptor both let me use some of their AC Valhalla footage which has been super helpful for the last few months, the two of those guys make some AC Content too, I'll link them below.

Ubisofts real name: Abstergo
Sorry but that is very scary idea considering what Abstergo did in the games. However Ubisoft took a lot of the idea of humans being slaves to aliens from ancient Sumerian texts, so they must have a pretty expansive research department.

Layla is probably my least favorite character in the series. So bad, the fact that we went form someone like Desmond to her is depressing.

Im honestly quite torn by this, I agree wholeheartedly that the latest games modern day story has been absolutely terrible... However I did love the story in odyssey... It didn't feel like an assassin's creed game, but it felt like a great greek mercenary game...

Do your granpa still looks handsome after years?
Its crazy how off the rails the story gets once Desmond dies. Them not substituting in an actual "main" protagonist and instead making "YOU, the gaming consumer!!" the main character is where the modern day story died.
They could have brought it back with Layla, Layla in origins really was nothing special; it was better than what we’d had before but not reminiscent of Desmond. But Odyssey was a disaster with the modern day, they skipped a whole year between origins and odyssey and the dlcs were just spectacularly awful.
Let’s hope and have faith that Valhalla will close out Layla’s story and make room to bring in Desmond’s son into the AC game universe as a modern day playable character to bring the franchise back to its true roots with the Miles family
@@Newera1047 I really think this game can tie up Layla’s story well. After that I hope it’ll be something really new. Darby saying that this’ll bring a lot of older stories back to bring them together makes it sound like it’s a slight conclusion.

I like how this justifies my decision to stop caring about the story after 3. At this point you have to wonder why Ubisoft still call this franchise assassins' creed, like serious they could have just made a new game franchise at this point with how far they are from where they started and how far the stories head is up its own ass.
3 was my last one and I still think it's the best. The story isn't cohesive any more and so I think I'm done.
You can tell that after Desmond dies in game, all major story decisions were made by people not connected to the story before.
Nahh fr lol a bunch of nonsense crammed together...
Im just...my god so buch bs in here...the main story of series is about Isu, modern days and cataclysm u really should repeat all games till 3 if u didn't get it. And that's why the game is called still AC that's why it is continued and that's why the story in games after 3 is better. The Universe was meant from the start to tell story about time travelling about super inteligent race before humanity if u don't get it u were playing wrong game from the start. It's not for u.
odyssey actually got me into the assassins creed universe. i think not being lore-heavy was pretty strategic on ubisoft’s part because i fell in love with the gameplay and then as the story unfolded, fell in love with the history embedded within the other games. i went back and played origins, and then bought valhalla the day it was released because i was so hyped.
i already finished valhalla but now i’m going back and playing for completion (i want dem playstation trophies man). seeing all of the “hidden” scenes and plot lines for the assassin lore made me super interested to know everything i can about the games.

i realized now that this was a super long and overly detailed comment, but basically, thank you for establishing plot for assassin’s creed, especially because i haven’t been apart of the community for long :)
It was pretty strategic to get new players in but they lost all the people that loved the assassin stuff, I’ve heard way to many people say that there not even assassins in Valhalla. They should’ve just made a Viking game instead and left AC alone.

Amazing job with this one! Thank you! Also thank you for ensuring me that I shouldn’t worry having never played Origins or Odyssey. This was my favorite franchise and you could see it being dismantled
man growing up with this franchise has been a great one, i remember playing the first one back in 2007 and now look where it has gone... it made me tear up for some reason.
AC Brotherhood was my first introduction into this franchise. I thought it was so good that I went back to play AC2. The only mainline AC games I didn't bother with were AC: Odyssey.
I liked what they did with Origins & I am currently enjoying Valhalla. I remember playing Brotherhood while I was a sophomore in high school & Revelations while I was a senior.
@@TheBeat710 Real guy over here!
I personally don't like Layla as a character as I feel she was written as an over powered character.
Desmond had his flaws that's why he was a good character he relived his ancestors lives and grew because of them. Layla is not even related to bayek or Kassandra
She didn't have to be related .she's an assassin probably was the last hope for them as at the end she got the artifact from Kassandra
On top of that we will know more about her In the next game
Yeah Idgaf about Layla.
FEMALE STRONG!!!
Layla, thanks for reminding me of her name, is that one employee who wanted to prove that she's more than a grunt.
*oh woow such interesting character*
(also thing which i learned from the video because the guy pointed that out)
True, but I like the fact that she isn't related. It's less of a chosen one narrative that way.
Not MUCH less, mind you, because the isu specifically say she is destined to sbe the next keeper and is literally chosen as such, but still.
This vid is one years old ( and I bet no one would actually see this) but this one video has helped explain so much that toms of others just can’t, what an amazing creator
I echo most of the sentiments I’ve seen about Valhalla. It’s made me excited again about the modern story and I’m so happy to be back into a franchise I loved for this reason. I didn’t really play much of the games from IV to Origins. But Odyssey was a game I loved on its own and the modern day stuff peaked my interest slightly but Valhalla has got me back and I’m glad the story I loved is coming back. Can’t wait for the next one now.
How you only have 13.2k subscribers. You totally deserve more than 200k
Dude you deserve so much more subs and I’m sure you’ll get them, really quality content!
This is, by far, the best "entire story" video on assassins creed. Thank you!
I didn't like Odyssey at first, but kept playing it and it turned into my favorite assassins creed game. I'm currently playing Vahalla, but having a really hard time getting into it. I keep going back and playing Odyssey.
I've had to watch two (TWO) of these recap videos to understand the whole assassins creed storyline. This was the better of the bunch because it emphasized the "in modern day" parts. Which tbh, I quit after starting revelations. I lost track of miles, then I hear he died, and then it's just a mess. This confirms it.
You can see it goes downhill after a certain point...VERY clear.
@575agon Yep.
AC origin?
@@spacepirate4623 No? Odyssey...
Anything after origins is garbage ngl
I don't undertsand why people hate Odyssey.. its a great game.. yes, the game does not have the creed of assassins in it.. but let's be real, most of AC games are talking about Isu(and their technology).. and in timeline, Odyssey is before AC Origin.. so, the game(Odyssey) still have Isu technology in it.. and their descendant are ones of the people in AC Origins, where the Creed of assassins were created. It is still a continuation.. just because there are no Assassins in it, the motives are still the same, trying to find Isu artifact and prevent Abstergo from getting it. I had fun playing AC games since AC 1, but Odyssey kept making me coming back to play it everyday, I love the game. The only reason tryhards fans says its a shit game is because you are all too salty just because there are no assassins in the game, lol.
The Desmond series was such good narrative. Thank you for the recap and saving me months of game play
This is the 1st time I've come across any of your videos and I subbed straight away after it. What a legend you are mate. Looking forward to more content
one thing that i really notice now is how damn good the music for the modern day is. it’s so full of emotion it makes all the difference
I thought I was just a Viking, Valhalla was my first game lmao
lol you missed out
actually this way the game is 100 times more enjoyable, i loved odyssey as i felt like a spartan discovering the grec world like in classic god of war, i loved unity since i live in Paris and i enjoyed seeing the same city as it is portrayed during the french revolution, and it goes on with black-flag and syndicate, i just started valhala and i have the same thing in mind, just a viking messing around back then when butchring people was normal. i pretty much give zero fucks about a story that is so complicated it doesnt make any sense. especially when the story is about some devine beings and supernatural weapons that actually ruin the pleasure of true history.
Cuz they ruined it
First minute of this video is mostly why it’s also my favorite game franchise too. Good stuff bro.
I liked this video because of the use of the cutscenes to add a nice breather to the fast paced info dump.
It let the video and the viewer take a breath without it getting boring.
Seriously, thank you for making me realize I wasn’t just going crazy with Odyssey. There were so many things that just didn’t line up, and by the end of the game, I was lost in the dark, wondering if the franchise decided they wouldn’t ever elaborate on the original story. Love these games for the story, but definitely disappointed with where it is going. I have serious doubt for Valhalla, but maybe my low bar will make it a great step forward.
I don’t understand why it gets so much hate. I thought odyssey was great!
@@kaitlynboatright8156 odyssey is good as in a good rpg, decent gameplay and graphics, but that’s now what makes a game good. For many including myself, it strays way too far from ac’s roots and what made it good (they forgot the hidden blade for heavens sake!) and overall i really didn’t like it, I hate rpg-style ac games. But ur free to have ur opinions
@@ispgravy4233 Well, in Odyssey you're not playing as an Assassin, the Assassins weren't even established by that time, so that's why your character doesn't use the hidden blade. But Legacy of the first Blade DLC tells the story of the first person to use it.
@@kaitlynboatright8156 is it really that hard to understand odyssey is a good game but not a good assassins creed game
Great stuff, exactly what I was looking for! I stopped playing after the Desmond story arc and just picking up valhalla, looks like I've done the right thing missing those others games as really loved the storyline 😂
I’ve been a big fan of and have played all of the AC games since the first one back in 07. I’ve enjoyed every single one, some more so than others, sure, but I wouldn’t say ANY of them are bad. Watching this recap brings such a sense of nostalgia. Great job putting this video together.
The mental gymnastics I have to do to wrap my head around the Odyssey modern day stuff is astounding. I'm so glad Valhalla put the series back on track. It feels like there's an overarching story again. The story was treading water a little bit during the Black Flag - Syndicate Era, it kinda got back on track in Origins, felt clunky in Odyssey, and is better now with Valhalla.
Thank you for this. I was so confused as to what was happening with everything. And rightfully so! So much happened that wasn't shown and the last few games have just had my head boggled!
Hope Valhalla gets everything back on track for the storyline now.
On odyssey - I honestly thought this should have been a standalone game. Not part of the AC franchise at all.
I have played AC since the first one. For me the main lore stopped once Desmond died. So I enjoyed Odyssey for what it was- the best Xena: Warrior Princess game we're likely to get.
My theory us that desmond faked his death to fool the templars. He will come back and the final game will be an asassins creed that takes place in the present or not too distant future.
Thank you for giving this much love to a verse I, too, love.
You just earned a subscription from me.
I LOVED your comment at 35:38 haha. Clever and sharp all in one. Also, how cool is it that James reached out to you in the comment section.
Thanks for this video bro! I've missed a few of the games so it was great to watch this.
Question: I'm currently playing through odassy purely for the story, is it wortg continuing or did you pretty cover this? (as I'm struggling with the overall gameplay so if I don't need to I won't ) thanks again
Randomly got curious about AC's story bc i stopped being invested after 3 and black flag. I loved this video so much. You really described it all so perfectly and i cant believe how off the rails the main story went after 3.
Holy crap that's exactly where I left off too. Found this video as a refresher and insight into the later games.
35:41 “one character who was particularly interesting and well developed “ lmfaooo great video man. Had to subscribe.
Walshie I loved EVERY single second of this video.
Holy shit this went from the entire story of assassins creed to the best rant of Odyssey i ever heard.
Love how it started out as the timeline in order but devolved into a rant
Outstanding job on this video... In 2007, I went from being nothing more than a part time, middle aged PS Sports gamer, to An AC Fanatic..I had been a gamer since the day 1 rollout of PS 1...But this series of games, this franchise changed everthing..2 things I had always enjoyed in my life had been merged together...History and Video Gaming.. But something is missing..The Altair and Ezio feeling..I hope Ubisoft brings it back...
Imagine if Desmond wasn't killed off and he had to find a sync nexus for Edward, Haythem, and Connor, like he did for Altair and Ezio. We could have a rogue like game playing as a young Haythem, and show Connor with his son, and maybe even see the events of liberation from his point of view.
I mean AC Odyssey is what got me back into the series because it was actually fun and humorous, plus I like how different it is.
Same here. Never liked the AC series before odyssey. I tried to play them but they just felt so clunky and slow paced. I guess you just had to play them when they were new, back before we got spoiled with todays games and mechanics. Recently finished Valhalla and id put it up there with Odyssey, not quite as fun, its lacking alot of freedom in builds and armor but still great.
odyssey is really funnier gameplay-wise, but lore-wise , it was like stabbing the old fan's balls with a flaming needle
@@kumakaon9225 omg yeah it kinda is 😂😂😂
Nothing is quite like AC lore! EXCELLENT video explaining it all.
Bruh you ent through this without a single stutter. 👏🏾 👏🏾 great work man. I played every creed that came up and you put it all together in less than an hr and I’ve shelled out well over 300 hrs in these games. 😂
Dude honestly, Im so greatful for this vid. I didnt want to finish the Atlantis dlc just to understand Valhalla, cuz its so boring, so seriously thank you so much xd
Keen for the updated version after someone finally finishes Valhalla
Amazing video , Perfectly captured the nosedive of the series. as a long (from the 1st) AC fan (games & Books) it was brilliant
Wow, this is really good dude. Great job on the video, was really enjoyable.
Followed this up to your rant on oddysey. Was literally one of the best games in the entire series
