All I wanted was a dedicated modern day game in AC. An actual one, not cameos from watchdogs. I wouldn’t have even been mad if Darcy was the mc of it after Desmond.
honestly, that's what I thought the original trilogy was building up to and why I lost interest in the series. I thought the whole point is that eventually we'd get a full game where we played as Desmond, now full in control of every skill he ever learned through the Animus, putting an end to the Templars once and for all in one big adventure fully set in modern day. to me, it sounds like after he died, the series just had no direction.
Apparently, people believe it's real for Olivier. That they are in the same universe. People don't know what an Easter Egg anymore. Surprisingly, Olivier did die in the Requiescat in Pace Mission but canonically it was just a hit by a person known as Chicago Fixer.
@ArynBacklogDragon same, i thought the point of the game was to avert the "2012" end of the world disaster. With AC3 being a fully fledged modern day settings game thatll end the trilogy and story.
I too, would love that, but I think they'll never do it because it would shut down the franchise, once you close out the isu storyline, it just becomes "historical hitman with freerunning"
I don't mind the series coming to the modern day from now on. And maybe add some missions in various past, present (like pop where you see yourself as the dark prince) and maybe future... All this in order to get specific information and details about a certain target. Instead of Tailing Missions since everybody hates them lol (not me tho). IDK maybe I smoked to much😂
The most infuriating part is how widespread the modern day story is. I was invested, but when I found out I had to go digging through so much extended media it felt impossible. so thank you for this video. Also, can we just talk about how, despite all the extended media, Ubisoft is actually doing something the likes of Marvel and Dc comics are struggling with. Something I know James Gunn wanted to push for when he took over, and something I've only ever seen work as well in the Star Wars franchise. Everything they make, from comics to games to books to movies, all of it feeds into one comprehensive timeline that's all canon. That's impressive, even if it is convoluted.
This was always my favorite part of the games as a whole like the connected story I dropped off after the french game so I'm glad I got learn it all now
I had an idea for an AC game. Abstrego starts making what they market as full-dive gaming arcades. Then they announce a world-wide tournament where players will compete against eachother while following a over-arching storyline. Really, it's just all of the players controlling their Assassin/Templar ancestors during the same time period. Boss battles would be fighting a player from the opposite side, sometimes getting to see them IRL after the tournament round is over. The whole thing ends when your character finds the "quest objective" Abstergo was looking for. Some sort of Eden tech, not sure what yet. But the twist would be that when that player reaches it, there's a cutscene Abstergo didn't put in the game. One where Juno gives a speech about coming to fix the world blah blah blah. And when the player gets let out of their pod, they see a HUD like what was in the game, but in a language we can't read. And it whole game ends with them saying a line that Juno did in her speech. Basically, Juno high jacked the tournament to find the perfect vessel to take over. The HUD at the end is the human brain augmenting itself to see things the way Juno is used to.
That would definitely work, could have been a follow up to the modern day events of Black Flag, the modern sage says Juno was supposed to take over our body but it goes another way so Juno makes another plan as follow up
Rest in peace, still breaks my heart that you left us so soon. A true legend of both the AC and comic community. Hope you’re doing good up there, Bennie.
i wish the modern day story was never a thing to begin with. i think it made AC very convoluted and less accessible for the people that enjoy getting invested in the stories of the games that they play. it also incorporates way too much fantasy elements, which sucked for a kid that enjoyed the more grounded historic settings. the gameplay sections feel like a boring afterthought and take you out of the altair/ezio fix, i haven't played ac since black flag but i remember playing each game before that and being bummed out every time we had to exit the animus for some plot reason. i also remember the 2012 mayan calender hype of the time and i think that was one of the reasons that they added a modern day setting at first but in hindsight it now has no impact because the 2012 thing has been long forgotten.
@@abbcc5996 The game was only good because of desmond and modern day progression. It gave a mystical apeal to it. Without it the game is just a generic "historical" game
@@abbcc5996 You stopped playing exactly when outside of animus progression stopped. So even yourself was less invested in the game after desmond death. The game just became a generic boring ubisoft game after that
"who turned out to be Desmond Miles's illegitimate son" Yeah... The modern day stuff kinda fell off. I think we should have been playing as Rebecca or Shaun in AC4. We don't physically need to be the one in the Animus many things could have been different. Overall I think it's probably fine but if they gave us more to do I think players would have found it more interesting. The first person cubicle desk worker perspective just didn't do it for a lot of people and it's arguably the worst part of AC4
I can’t help but notice that after Desmond exits the story, the video starts using less in-game material and more still images, and I can’t help but think this bodes ill for how the newer games are handling the modern half of the games.
We play for the ancestors story and gameplay but the real story is MOSTLY happening in the modern day, with Juno, the search for the ISU artifacts, stopping the end of the world in 2012, the Sage who is constantly reincarnating, etc... PS: I recognise the voice of Benny from Comicstorian.
im honestly curious how theyll go on now..if they really scrap another possible antagonist (or even protagonist) in basim like juno before..or even do something "off screen" (like not in the main games) or they really move us forward in time so to say and tell the actual current modern day story ..with flashbacks or whatever..or basim is still around and is simply telling it to the new main guys..whatever haha...do you guys have hope they wont mess it up..kinda?^^ btw..asking again if u could tell us all the parts of the games soundtracks u used for this video..i recognize most of it..but knowing exactly where it plays it the franchise..would be lovely=)
i feel like i follow assassins creed pretty closely but holy shit this is confusing. he laid it out nicely but if i had to try to explain that to someone they’d be so lost
I was always more interested in the modern day side of AC, but they lost me completely with the abstergo/Ubisoft game company paralels starting on black flag, haven't touched AC since. Found this video to have a recap before I delve a bit into Odyssey and I guess I just have stop trying to care because holy shit there's so much going on. Great video though
It’s a shame the story is so ‘big’ yet hidden away and not hardly mentioned unless you look for it. With so many games now I suppose it only makes sense but man…it would be great to have a new game that is modern and also lets us cover another historical point or maybe instead of 1 we get 2/3 that all are touchstones to display the modern story. I do think at this time it’s a mistake for us to not get a modern day setting. Either that or you reboot and give us a new or similar story that is much tighter, less mysterious and not requiring a gamer to look up wikis, comics, RUclips videos and 12 games to grasp the story. There really is a cool ass plot here but it feels like they never planned it out and after 3 they thought ‘everyone hated modern day’ which..you JUST needed to give us a full modern day playground or story level for us to play not just us hopping in underground dungeons. Doesn’t look like they are changing course anytime soon though
AC3 best game. I might be biased bc I’m American. Wish there was more to the story tho. Only BIG thing in the game was in the CGI trailer. And being from outside Philly, I wish we got an old skool Philly map.
I played 1, 2 , 3, Unity, Origins and Odissey. I cant follow what you say. I either cant pay attention, or your video does not help much. Through my entire life, these type of videos never ever helped me. Its a ton of info per second. Cant follow it

Watch dogs is actually the modern day assassin brotherhood
See this is why I want an AC game in the modern day. No DLC, No side quests, none of that. Just a regular full on game.

I always loved the modern day stories. Specially in 3 when we get to use desmond and all wat we worked troguh 3 games before.
Layla met Charlotte, Galina, and everyone from Uprising. It was thanks to them that made her decide to become an assassin.
I didn’t even realize at first who this was. RIP. Even now I still find stuff from you I didn’t know about
I miss Benny too. What a great story teller he was. I just listened to his cris on infinite earth video compilation yesterday.
Wait what? The uploader passed away?
Such a shame they let the modern day die because bandwagons wanted less of it.

love and miss ya
R.i.p. Bennie!!
I'll have to watch this after work!
@7:21 _William_ Miles, not Warren Miles, is Desmond's father.
7:19 Warren Miles???? I think you mean William Miles
I miss you man!! 😢
Can someone tell me the video pls 12:24

2 mins in and im already confused
Anyone ever tell you you sound a bit like Desmond/Nolan North? You gotta do an impression now.
