Amen, Josh. The Metal Zone *IS* an amazing pedal, but people try to use it in FX loops instead of as a pre-amp, which is what it was designed for. P.S. - Great job covering this, Holland. Love to see another YT guitarist (even a smaller one) giving Josh some respect.
Most decent to good quality OD's all have a circuit not too dissimilar from each other, therefore most are all capable of delivering the sound you are looking for. That was Josh's point, nothing else ! and I applaud him, I have never bought into the hype thing, I just got on with playing my guitar.
Funny how so many missed the point Josh was making. My understanding with Dumble's it was a tailored amp. Kenny Wayne Sheppard has a few and did a rig run down.
Had said this couple of times and will say it again: "Pragmatism and Musicians are like Oil and Water". Gotta love the fact that people are blaming Josh for their own impulsiveness and fear of missing out. As someone who can't afford musical gears and from a place where they're really expensive, I've learnt to be pragmatic about gears. Currently only have one playable guitar and a practice amp I got from a friend, don't even have any pedals at all (_yet_). Have been using plugins, ever since I got my interface in late 2020 and almost 90% of the stuffs I use in the DAW are free. Nice Guthrie Govan signature on the back by the way, definitely a dream guitar that I would love to own one day.
I do understand that viewpoint about you really don't need this or that because you can get whatever sound you are after with what you have. However, there's one artist that cannot be done with. Randy Rhoads' live sound. I've studied the subject extensively and the only way to get his sound is a Marshall tube amp of at least 40 watts, Les paul/Rhoads V, MXR Distortion Plus and MXR 10 band EQ...Chorus run strictly through the front not FX loop. His sound was so specific and the Distortion Plus does something to the signal that you cannot get out of any overdrive especially an Ibanez Tube Screamer and most Distortion pedals like a Boss Distortion. You can get close but Rhoads was both a novice with sound and a master...he found a niche way of using the Distortion Plus/MXR 10 Band that cannot be replicated easily with any gear. He flat out stated that his biggest flaw was that he relied very heavily on his sound way too much. There's a few other artists like this but his sound is the one I've extensively studied the most.
How do you feel about what's going on at JHS? While Russia is dumping fuel on our drones, Josh is dumping kerosene all over guitarists
Doesn't matter what effects I use. I sound pretty much the same no matter what I do to sound better.
Same here
The past couple of weeks have been so much fun to follow. It's all in the fingers and the brain. Josh is a very cool dude.
He's the coolest

It's all in the wrist! (as in the case of said guitar players... FINGERS)

Plug-ins work great! Thank you
