The Best Gypsy Jazz Course? Reviewing Robin Nolan's Gypsy Jazz Club
Просмотров 20011 месяцев назад
Gypsy Jazz Club Review! One of my favorite courses. I love the idea of a genre to compliment my main squeeze that has a focus on improv. This course is jammed with lessons, interactive community and live lessons, in person camps and more! Robin Nolan is a true gem in the guitar and jazz community. As usual this is not paid and I'm receiving nothing for this. www.youtube.com/@UC8FsvhM4kJq5v21nva...

Pentatonic is the lord's scale. The evil tritone appears missing! Here we can explore how great the Pentatonics are as a base or foundation. Because we can add the modal colors to the scale as we see fit!

Holland Oats - #1 - "Don't Be a Richard"
Id you want to be a guitar teacher and theory wizard take all the lessons you want. If you want to become a musician, use your ears and learn songs like every other great player that played the instrument
Ehm...wrong album😅😂
I think Beato's book is equivalent to guitar lessons from Yngwie Malmsteen. His lessons are for guitarists who already know how to play or understand about guitar & he's teaching his style more than guitar.
Worst shit I've ever seen
The guitar is out of tune
I love Scotts content but hes not a teacher. He has great insight and perspective on music and guitar in particular but he is just not a teacher. If you want an actual guitar teacher check out Steve Stine or Ben Eller, they were born to teach.
Uncle Ben is a favorite. I'll check out Stine! Thanks
@@HollandOats The one he just put out about Satriani style playing is really good.
The interactivity online is a little helpful with learning the concepts.
yes it is
It's not a good book. If you want to learn theory just get the Hal Leonard theory book. At least you'll get some explanation. He now charges 90 bucks for the book which makes it a scam for what it is. As soon as I had a proper theory resource this thing went into the bin.
Revised title: The Death Review: Beato Book
exactly
Shaq missed his calling
What tuning it comes in?
Mine came in B standard
I'm a Berklee Online guitar major and I bought the Beato Interactive bundle during the holiday sale as a means of reference and review. I've watched about a half dozen videos and so far my impression is that it's more suited to be a reference for advanced intermediate players who already have a solid grounding in theory including triads, 4 note chords, arpeggios, scales, modes, etc. If you're a beginner guitarist this is not really a good place to start. Many of the examples I've watched include him playing piano through changes without spelling out chords or explaining why they fit in a certain mode. I understand modes and chord construction but the format he uses had me quickly lost. I had to pause and rewind several times just so I could spell out the chords he was playing and that still doesn't really explain why they work in the example. As others have said it feels more like a collection of lessons he compiled over the years and just decided to throw a title page and have it bound into a book.
Agreed
Weird sporadic, apathetic stream of thought… I feel like no real opinion was given. Huh.
Lol i wish shaq would do a song or feature, itd be so funny
I've been studying with Robin 4 years. It's the best Gypsy Guitar Club on the Planet.
great video, I don't like this guys halfhearted, incomplete explanations of theory concepts so this is a bit cathartic to me, because I'm evil like that. His videos are alright to learn about some functional harmony, but they just dont entirely explain how things work, it's a bit aggrevating. Combined with the persona it's just ugh.
i remember being in a chat in a beato live stream, i said he should put the links in the book to the videos lol, still get lots of spam, i bought the old one, i am on a fixed income and took care of my dying mother, so i couldn't buy all of his stupid crap, think i still get beato spam in my e-mail lol
Intersting but a little expensive instructional Books 99 S 00 lll
Would love to hear more about Guitar Wisdom, and all the other courses you’ve tried. Book reviews too!Just found your channel.
@Shred only knows one thing: Anger. But does he really know it? No.
I hope you didn't pay for that trash. I got it for free 3 years ago. Still available for free today.
Sounds like a bit of jealousy. I have the Beato book and I have no problem with it. It's not a book that you read front to back, as Rick has said many times, it's used as a reference or resource book where you go to different subjects that you want to work on or if certain questions arise in your studies. When Rick was a music professor at college and taught music theory this is the book the students purchased for their theory class with Rick and they learned music theory in his class by using this book. I definitely don't think this book is for someone who does not know how to read music or does not have a basic understanding of music theory and that is what Rick has always said about this book. I'm actually surprised, I watched this video expecting to gleen something from it, something that had more substance and less whining. Like whing about Brett Schultz not being in the book, if you want a book with Brett Schultz in it you should buy one of his books, that is if he has written any, I don't know. It's too bad the book didn't work for you and it's too bad you don't know how to read music or have a basic understanding of music theory... which is obvious because you clearly have a poor comprehension of the Beato book. And the comment you made that's it fun to make fun of the bigger RUclipsrs says a lot about who you are as a human being and about your character. Instead of making a video with barely any substance perhaps you need to look inward on why you are so salty and negative. You come across as an angry ole Boomer who is miserable because your music prowess is less than or subpar. Cheers mate.
Someone didn't watch the video. Good job
Even as a reference it's too expensive and not very helpful.
Thanks so much for this video
Good, honest review and very fair but please stop with the camera ZOOmING in AnD OuT already. Peace and love.
Thats Alex Terrible not Shaq LOL but nice playing
This is a wildly and criminally underrated video.
Zero interest in beato but love the t shirt 👍
In Chuck we trust
What's your opinion that Rick gets blocked for a reason like KDH did here? ruclips.net/video/CxbmXhAkS1Q/видео.html
Thanks, didn't realize this was such an important step for a beginner.
Do the Steve Vai book review.
Oof. I'll see what I can do
The Beato Book is quite geeky - that's pretty much the whole point, but I bought it to support his channel.
Indeed!
Great review although I need to start out by declaring an interest: I have been a member of Robin's online school for a few years, Gypsy Jazz is definitely my main thing now. I am the 'Paul Dillon' you mention at about 13:20 into the video. It was interesting to hear from a player for whom Gypsy Jazz is just going to be a side hussle, we have got quite a few people in the club who are primarily rock guitarists and are getting great value from the time they are putting into getting some new sounds into their playing. I like the fact that you are also reviewing some of the books and other courses that are out there. When making the step up from RUclips free tutorial content to a paid site, folk need all of the information and advice they can get. I checked out your channel, great videos - keep them coming!
Thanks Paul! I'm going as deep as I can in the genre but I think it's difficult to get really good without being immersed and playing with a lot of other people. I'd have to move!
Nice one Richard appreciate the review! Hope to see you in the campfire soon let’s jump on a zoom soon!
Will do! Thanks for the hard work over there!
This rocks.
Thanks!
Might be useful to tell what the costs are to print it, as well in black and white as well as in color. In our local printshop is would be 40 quid, partly in color probably 80 or 100.
There's no reason to print it now. Its digital
@@HollandOats It was digital before. What's a PDF?
@@djganton *shakes head*. Ok dude!
So you bought about forty books before realizing one might buy too many books and chose Beato's book to prove you're a slow learner? ;-) Reminds me of a youtuber that had a shelf of books with titles like The only thing you need to become successful/rich etc. How long would it take him to realize there is not such just one thing?
No.
It's the merch that gets him demonn'd in the first place.
Hated it. so dry and so complicated.
This goes actually really hard. How has this not been passed around in every circle imaginable
Amazing. You need to make more
I am! Thanks
Why would Bert be on Legion of Skanks? 😂
is this the new Bethlehem album? lol
Bertlehem
With the way he laughs on every podcast, you can make hundreds maybe thousands of these lol
I would end up divorced.
Wow. Somebody needs a real job
Damn this is funnier than anything he’s ever done
love the 'podcast' laugh era that we seem to still be in....
dude said it would never be funny again.. super wrong Bert. super wrong.
More of this hahah
ok!

I am a professional guitar player who has worked steadily in music for over 40 years. I have my bachelor's in M.E. from Hartt School of music (University of Hartford). I have composed movie soundtracks, taught professionally for 35 years, and am currently performing 2 to 4 times a week. Playing everything from jazz standards to classic country music. I graduated Hartt in 1995. It's been a long while since school and I'm not sure how much of the information I have actually retained over the years. I became familiar with Rick Beato some months ago and was truly impressed by the lecture he gave in the video I watched. It is obvious that the man is a theoretical wizard. I will not dispute that. However, I purchased said 500 page book and I have to tell you, it's not worth it. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Especially if you are not an advanced player or musician. He throws a lot of terminology at you with absolutely no back info or explanation. He really only covers a few of the modes in any contextual sense. He leaves out a lot of very important information and assumes that whoever reads the document is already at a very advanced musical level. Even then it's vague and hard to follow. I purchased the book to brush up on my music theory and fill in empty gaps. This book falls so short of any useful, intuitive information that I have only looked at it a few times. Every time I try and look into it again I just get disgusted and leave. It's just so disjointed and full of holes that need to be filled in order for anyone not well versed in theory or music to get anything out of it. I left a message on Mr. Beato's page about it but have never heard back from him, nor is my message still up. So I guess my inquiry was not well received. But if you really want to learn about music, this book is not what you are looking for. Certainly not worth the $99 I paid. It wouldn't buy it in print a Guitar Center for $14. It's not a well written book.
Hi, Thanks for uploading this was very helpful I just had couple more questions about this book. so would you recommend the book for somone who has a decent understanding of theroy but want to expand his knowledge about it? Also is the book help with improvisng and increase speed? Does the digital book have corresponded videos for sure?
There's no technique at all so no speed help. Digital definitely has videos but I didn't check every page and section. I would go somewhere like Kiko Loureiros guitar academy if you want theory and technique/speed.
