@@DiceTry Think about it, Clerics would often associated with mono White, since it's based off of religion, prayers and healing, given that Wisdom is their main stat and Warlocks being a mirrored opposite through making deals and pacts(mainly demons) for exchange for power, which is something a mono Black character would do and being very Charismatic is the Warlock's main attribute, this is just my speculation.

I have this Minotaur Wizard/Cleric, for whom "just likes to role damage dice" fits perfectly. He is the classic Red/Black "likes to bash skulls in just for fun" type of guy, though within his adventuring (read "bandit") group, he shows a lot of the compassion from red and selective closeness from black.

this video gave me the idea for a green-red-white wizard, a good person who's wise and through that wisdom has learned that one shouldn't take things too seriously, "All life is sacred, we are alive, thus we are given a sacred gift... let's make the most of it at least, so! who wants some wine, on me!"

I have not gotten to play this Wizard of mine yet. But they were introduced to magic at a young age thanks to their father, who has unfortunately long been deceased. Their father left behind a couple thick books that give detailed notes on the basics of learning magic, as well as tips and guidance for how one may improve by themself. Wanting to walk in the footsteps of their father, they take to Necromancy, however, they aren't interested in becoming a lich or raising an undead army in the slightest. For it is thanks to their father's notes and them listening to others and the world around them, that makes this person use Necromancy in a very interesting manner.
Dubbed the Surgeon of Death by their own village, they practice Necromantic control over life in order to help people. Whether it be by boosting the heartiness of an individual/s or to help ease a person's pain as they perform surgery on them. (Being that they are a surgeon from studying the body). They seek to speak with their father if just once, and to help others find closure with their deceased family or friends.
I'd say that this character is a combination of Green-White-Blue. They seek the knowledge and power for a rather simple want compared to others, yet they don't allow themselves to fall into the trap of Necromantic hunger. Learning from their father, the world around them, and feeling the emotions that can flood around them.

She has arguably more supportive skills than offensive, and she charges people a lot of money to use them for others.

Hey Harry Potter is a wizard too. He is awesome. My favorite story in fiction is the Harry Potter series. The character of Harry is a complicated guy. If I did choose a color, I would go for Grixis.
The blue applies to wizards in general. Harry does have some blue qualities. He loves going to magic school. He enjoys studying more than most kids. He is also smart enough to solve mysteries. Hermione is the real bookworm of the story. She also excels in magic. She would fit blue very well.
Harry also has red qualities. This is the part that stands out the most. Harry is very brave and adventurous. He jumps into action quickly, and also cares for his friends. Harry is sorted into Gryffondor. That fits red in both literal color and abstract personality. Harry even wears red quite a bit in the movie, especially when playing quidditch. Ron is a brash and caring character of the story. He would fit red really well. He even has red hair. Blue and red are opposing colors. So Hermione and Ron respectfully clash. Harry tends to be caught in the middle. He is something in between. So there is an Izzet pair emerging. Heck the Strixhaven set reminds me of Harry Potter. One can just put Harry in Prismari college. He would fit right in.
There is the third color black. This one is more subtle, but it is there. Just because Harry is a hero, it doesn't mean he is except from the color. Harry can come off as arrogent at times. Although this is something easy to assume for someone so famous. Harry doesn't totally relish his game. He seems to resent the praise half the time. Harry does have some black traits. He has strong determination and ambition to defeat Voldemort. He is willing to use any reasource to further his goals. Harry also breaks the rules a lot. He thinks his own heroic goals are more important. He is very cunning in the way he sneaks around solving mysteries. These traits also fit Slytherin. Slytherin fits black in personality despite being green in literal color. The main Slytherin character is Draco. He fits black to a T. He thinks he is better than other students. He is also cunning and a major bully.

    • @c.d.dailey8013
      @c.d.dailey8013 2 года назад +6

So the colors can go together. Harry has an affinity to magical knowlage that most wizards do. So this is blue. Harry has red as his most apparent color. He is brave, adventurous and caring. Harry has black as his most subtle color. It is in his tendancy for ambition and rule breaking. The subtle part does come up when Harry worries if he was better off in Slytherin than Gryffindor.
Harry is missing the colors green and white. That fits. Harry doesn't have green, since he lacks affinity with nature. Nevile fits green very well. He is talented in herbology. Harry is apathetic about that. He also doesn't care too much for care of magical creatures, even if he is friends with Hagrid. Hagrid would fit green too. Harry and Nevile are at odds since both were potential recipients of the prophecy. It may seem wierd for Harry to lack white being that he is a hero. He breaks the rules way too much. He throws social rules and structure completely out the window. He is not all that moral aside from caring for friends and family. Yet that intimite morality is already covered by red. I guess Cedric would fit white. He is so Noble and honorable. Harry really isn't in that league. They are at odds since they competed in the Triwizard Tournament.
Then colors go together. Izzet has blue and red. Harry fits it with being involved in the Wizarding World. There is so much creativity involved in the world building. I would even imagine the most eccentric characters fitting here, like Luna and Trelawney. I fit under Izzet too. I am starting to see why I love the Harry Potter story so much. The Izzet personality fits. One of my favorite adjective is wierd. The wierdest the better. I also have intelligence and creativity as my two greatest strengths. Dimir has blue and black. This is like how Harry solves mysteries. He sneaks around and puts clues together. Rakdos has red and black. This is like how Harry impulsively does his own thing, and breaks rules in the process.
The final color combo for Harry is Grixis. This has black at the core. Then there is red and blue to the side. Grixis is a color combo that takes the human drive, and pushes it all the way. It uses the intelligence of blue and the emotions of red. This is held together with the sheer ambition of black. Grixis isn't held back by the nature rules of green or the social rules of white. It takes its ambition and reasources all the way. When I think of Grixis, I tend to think of Nicol Bolas, the big bad of MTG. It is easy to assume Grixis is evil due to Nicol Bolas and the black core. However I thought MTG color philosophy was more nuanced than that. Now I see. Harry Potter was Grixis. He has accomplished great things by defeating Voldemort. He grew tremendously through an alchemical process. Voldemort would be black, and problebly more specifically Orizhov. Grixis can push forward to radical territory more than any other shard. It can still be for good.

In Harry Potter, only non-muggles can learn magic. As one born with this raw, magical "spark" (transferred through bloodlines), Harry's unrefined magic even lashed out randomly (mostly at moments of emotional stress) before he even went to Hogwarts to learn anything about how magic actually works, or how to cast spells.
To me it sounds like Harry's actually a sorcerer

Thank you as always for the fantastic content. I like the idea of a wizard as a sort of residual from enlightenment times when it was common for respectable scientists like Issac Newton to openly study both physics and alchemy and magick. But instead of magick being law-like as in physics, it is more like the obligations and responsibilities a parent might have that often conflict. In this sense, morality is part of the Real and the wizard is an expert in setting up cosmic principles to have permission to manifest. I think green is a better fit for seeing reality as fundamentally moral in nature. The "morality" in white is hierarchical, paternalistic, top-down, and out of touch with reality as skillfulness in life is wisdom in navigating conflicting responsibilities, not just doing as you are told. Green is a better color to represent a pluralist idea of morality, that there are essential conflicts in our responsibilities and nothing is absolute, and what is moral is instead relative to specific conditions. This connection between blue and green reminds me of how at one-time science was called natural philosophy and that alchemy was both a process of physical and spiritual transformation. The natural philosopher studied nature and magick was seen as the power to duplicate the natural processes. Perhaps by changing how the stellar rays travel to earth, changes to what reality will be manifested might be discovered. This is why my choice of wizard is Isaac Newton, blue-green. He studied the good book like a maniac searching for hidden mathematical patterns that he believed would reveal how to manipulate reality. What if he succeeded in a fantasy setting? Much love!

A BR wizard who, when young, wandered off to follow a strange creature and was led into the fey wild, where they learned their spellcasting from some fey (dndbeyond gives a similar example for wizards in the PHB and on dndbeyond, you don't need to go to hogwarts to learn wizard magic!) who liked the cut of their jib. As the fey wild is want to do, it cranked up all their feelings of wanting to let loose and have fun away from their simple life in a small secluded village. At some point during the whole ordeal, they tell one of the fey "I wish that some day I could look back and only remember happy days like these..." A fey, as they do, takes this literally and offers to "help." The wizard-to-be loses their memories of the life they had before and even memories they develop afterwards, if they aren't "happy," will leave them in time. Just as they wandered into the wilds, they eventually wander out unknowingly . Portals to the plane are random, so they figure it's worth having fun exploring while they try to find a way back to the only home they know. How much time has passed while they were gone from the prime material plane is up in the air.

Naya, White/Red/Green. A young battlemage learns his first fireball mere days before he begins his service in his Lord’s army, studying with other aspirants under the Lord’s personal cadre of magi. He studies the deadliest of war incantations to rain down hellfire and holy wrath upon the enemies of his people. He dedicates himself solely to his craft.
As time progresses, he sees his comrades fall around him. He realizes his destructive powers are not enough. A fireball can’t stop a bolt of lightning. Scarred from countless campaigns and already weary and old despite his youth, he changes his pursuits. He learns the arts of the shield instead of the sword, he needs to know how to protect his comrades in arms. Spells to nullify, spells to conjure barriers, spells to inspire and even spells to heal, he learns them all.
Years go by, battle after battle, campaigns all blend together. He’s seen more of the realms than most can read of in a book, and he has learned from it. The Druids of Ysgald, the Shamans of Gorrost, the Chronomancers of The High Concordat, he has seen it all in the service of his ascending lord. Late into his years, he’s learned the wisdom of patience, of forethought and of stillness. The fire of his youth long since faded, replaced with a yearning for contentment and serenity. He spends his days in the courtyards of the King, staff in hand, observing the wards of the Citadel keep and training with a firm but gentle hand the next generation of Magi. Ever ready to erase from this reality the enemies of his people, never too hasty to overlook the needs of his fellows.

I'm running a High Elf Enchantment Wizard in a game that's gone on for about two years, and the party is level 18. His name is Maeglor, and he's a bender of minds and a seeker of all arcane knowledge. He's got sleeper agents in some of the big and powerful cities and institutions of a world of my friend's creation and he likes to play the role of the "shadowy manipulator". Think someone like Rodrigo Borgia from Assassin's Creed or Darth Sidious from Star Wars if their ideals and plans were less self-centered. His primary goals are to make a world in which his family may prosper due to their current status as High Elven nobility (they are members of a council underneath their royalty) in a nation that is slowly losing its power and prestige because of the supremely isolationist and xenophobic views the majority of its occupants hold. Because of these circumstances, he's a very big fan of mercantilism and capitalism because he sees the trading and the distribution of goods and services as a way for the realms to further each other and make progress. He wants the people of his nation (and, on a more grand scale, all nations) to grow and flourish rather than decay and fade into history. He also greatly values the agency and well-being of others, and tends not to issue commands to his unknowing agents that would otherwise negatively effect their lives. In some cases, he even uses his more conventional knowledge of hypnotism to help them establish healthier habits and to realize potential goals they've given up on due to life circumstances. An example being a beautiful prostitute who wanted to be a painter, and was quite the artist, but couldn't because he wasn't famous enough to make good money doing it. Maeglor sponsored the man as his patron, and got the kid a gig as a painter for some nobility and as the painter for Maeglor's family.
The snag with this elf comes up with his childhood trauma stemming from being enslaved by the Drow along with his younger sister and four friends, through which most were violated and wounded in some capacity (most horribly, his sister was left blind and a cripple by magic stemming from Lolth) before they managed to claw their way to freedom. So, when our party wound up having to go to the very city he was taken to as a boy, he began making plans to make slaves out of his former masters. He's charmed his way into noble houses by playing as a merchant who sells luxury goods to esteemed clientele and giving them magical finery (rings, necklaces, amulets, bracers, etc.) that do have positive enchantments (ie. fire resistance, greater stamina (Constitution), etc.) but have the catch of them essentially casting a similar effect to "Dominate Person" which renders them puppets to his will. He then used these Drow nobles as clients to recommend these wares of his to their fellows and thus spread his influence through the city. By now, he has managed to gain control over the Matron Mother, her family, and her palace guards, the noble houses, their guards, and some of the merchant houses over the course of nearly four or five in-game years. He keeps most of them under his dominion by using conventional brainwashing and hypnotism to make their minds malleable to his direction as opposed to magical items because that's simply too much magic to maintain. He is basically the shadow ruler of this Drow city. As for how he got the Matron Mother, the DM homebrewed an item for my character that allows him to make creatures who have charm immunity to only roll with advantage instead and so on because he was interested in my more utilitarian playstyle.
His hypocrisy stems from his trauma and the fact that he sees the Drow as lacking the proper qualifications for freedom and self-determination. In his view, your rights end where someone else's begins. Since the Drow are an enslaving, debaucherous, and malignant society, he sees nothing wrong with depriving them of their free will. Because of these (and other) reasons, I see him as a Blue-White-Black wizard, but I could be wrong. I just figured he'd be a good example of someone who doesn't fit neatly into Blue alone. That said, most of my DND characters are wizards by virtue of being my friend group's resident utility caster. That was a long way to say that I have a wizard who makes the most money out of our party and gets to play the card of, "I have a Matron Mother who calls me 'stud muffin'."
P.S. If you actually read all of this then thank you for your time. Get yourself some damn Girl Scout Cookies or something because I can't send them to you. Treat yourself.

That love and the desire to change things for the better has manifested in a drive to understand magic as thoroughly as possible in order to improve the circumstances of the populace, even pursuing some relationship with and understanding of divine magic in his desire to understand the forces of life in his chase for longevity for all.

Bit late to the party, but I once played a wizard who was basically Esper incarnate: A warforged necromancer who used it's powers to enforce order and protect the kingdom. It would use high amounts of undead despite that being highly illegal, claiming that "we can't afford to follow the rules if we want to win" (demon invasion going on, so... yeah) and had a particular habit of creating more undead than it could ever control at once, just to release the excess in strategic areas, like in the moat of its castle or in enemy territory, caring little for any casualties that may have caused. In order to get the church on it's side, it even secretly poisoned two highly esteemed paladins, just to offer them to be "saved" by being turned into wights - they couldn't refuse because they can't just die if there is still work to do, but them now being undead (and also kinda under my necromancers control) significantly weakened the churches standing against necromancy, allowing them to work together as means to fight off the invasion. It eventually got killed by one of it's simulacri...

Last Wizard I played started as a Goblin named Sparky who was solidly Blue White Green. Unfortunately, as the game went on, he encountered a cursed artifact that slowly caused him to shift from White to Red. As the campaign continued, he became more powerful and the Green was replaced with Black. At the end of the campaign when the party was basically trying to diffuse a magic nuke comprised on an entire plane's worth of magic, we were at a juncture where it seemed a party member's death was necessary. Sparky grew frustrated with the party talking in circles on how to possible escape without someone dying, and so he decided that 'if you want a job done right, you gotta do it yourself' and tried to channel all of it himself. He had to make a charisma save, and gota fairly high role, I think a 20 or 21 in total. He was able to successfully channel and disperse the energies, the raw throughput had scoured himself clean of mana, basically scattering his soul to the cosmic winds in an unrecoverable state. Ended up becoming the definition of the phrase 'You either die the hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'

On the idea of blue and green wizard I would like to point out a show called Ancient Magus Bride, there are two types of spellcasters on the show: mage and sorcerer, mage seem to be innate, born with the ability to gather magic energy from their surroundings or from a spirit (like fey/elemental) with this energy they can do what the show call miracles and can live for very long time when they master their power, in a way they are more akin to druids, sorcerers create an artificial organ that also absorbs magic, but they cannot make miracles, the key difference is that their magic can't overide the rules of nature (or the laws of phisics) like miracles can, so their power is limited by how well they understand these rules, so they resemble the wizards more so.
But my arguement is that both could be wizards, and both could be blue ans green, mages rely revelie on their bond with familiars and other spirits, and there's even a scene where the mentor explains there's some magic he can't do or is bad at because his INNATE ESSENCE is shadow, but at the same time they are the ones that bend the rules of nature, although there are taboos even they refuse to make. Also mages give of this strong sense of tradition and ritual.
Sorcerers on the other hand are the classic nurture vs nature of blue, they aren't born with the ability to make magic, they can't even see or hear spirits and magic creatures unless the creature in question allows them too, yet through study and dedication they obtain magic, yet they are the one who work with nature, while mages simply get to do whatever they want so long a spirit strong enough is backing them up sorcerers must limit themselves to work with already is there, like a mage can create water out of nowhere while a sorcerer would have to reach it from a pre-existent source, like clouds and such

If I was to be honest with myself, the way he described "Black" when added with White to Blue...I can definitely see that selfishness within me, especially as he mentioned of pairing with White, my wish "to impose my will onto others" is disguised under a so-called 'noble' purposes. 🧐🧐🧐🧐

From our table, no wizard is as revered or feared as Gaz Pacho, the Svirfneblin wizard of invention! He is a man of ambition. Before the party he was a successful mining prospector with the hopes of using the money and materials to fuel his inventing. After joining us he became the de-facto lawyer for the Lollipop Guild. He straight up invented guns in our Forgotten Realms timeline after being inspired by Simon, our group’s Eldritch knight. After a misadventure in the plane of fire he haggled his way into an arms contract with Waterdeep while having us safely returned unharmed from the city of brass.
He even hatched a Bronze dragon wyrmling named Quilla!
In the latter end of the campaign he designed a planes-skipping airship powered by a staff of power. And he also performed the marriage rights for our Goliath Paladin’s wedding to the Storm King’s Daughter, all while wearing a fully golden three piece suit, bling all along his hands and neck, all while giving the rites in the most steeeotypically Brookly preacher accent his player could muster.
He was (is actually he’s discovered immortality, or as much as Mystra is willing to allow him, and continues his work across the multiverse. Don’t mind the telefragging it’s hard to travel across worlds without stable portal networks) the embodiment of Blue Red White for his chaos, inventiveness, idealism, lawfulness, sense of duty, and equal parts respect and disrespect for the fundamental laws of the universe and nature.
One day he’s giving an orphaned dragon egg the best home he can, the next he’s punching holes in the fabric of space-time and giving the middle finger to Vecna himself by taunting him with his gun blueprints and LIVING!
My wizard of note is Cirina Dreadwyrm, summoner. An elf from Krynn she was born to a family of wizard nobles, blessed with dragon horns, scales, and tail. Shunned by her peers she was inducted to study under her grandfather, a white-robed Archmage. She lived through the elve’s exodus and was on the road when she was pulled into the dreadplanes by an Eldritch entity.
Her life experience has already been a harsh one. Ostracized by others and forced to flee her home, she is thrust into a nightmare world with her grandfather’s life in the hands of an unknowable maniac entity.
But her circumstance is equal blessing as it is curse. The madman that had taken her from her home had shattered the wall from which she had but once seen the world through a peephole; never being able to see much at a time with the full picture nowhere in view. Her fundamental knowledge of the world she knew was no more and quickly made way for new knowledge, new connections, and new heights of magic. For now she tapped into the small, once non-existent understanding of reality to pull forth allies to fight at her side. The shades and reflections of otherworldly beasts and denizens that she learns to pluck from their imprints of their essences through the space between worlds!
Even her disposition on her personal life has fundamentally changed forever. For among those of other, more distant worlds than her own she came to form a deep camaraderie and learned to open up her heart to others. To care for them as family, to laugh with them around the campfire with spirits in hand, to share in joy and sorrow of a friend’s passing, and to feel the righteous fury one channels to protect their loved ones from harm.
And after coming so far in her spirit and knowledge her mind once more set upon Krynn. And through her deep desires and emotions of her beloved home, learned to call upon the faded essence of a once powerful Idol of Justice and Peace. Summoning fourth the draconic essence of the once Godly Paladine, she beckons the shade of Bahamut to bring peace, salvation, and joy to shattered worlds and the darkest reaches of the universe.
She is Blue Green at her core being forced by circumstances of birth and life to learn how to forge on ahead from an early age. With every new world she visited her perspective of life and her goals were fundamentally change; flipping between either white or red as her journey continues and she discovers more of the multiverse, its people, and their challenges. She could probably be 4 color at her peak of knowledge.
Then there was August. He was impulsive enough to go through random portals to other planes for quick jaunts, wrote down what he saw, became a wizard for the secret police for all of about 2 minutes before bailing on them (mutually), then set off 5 nukes in their capitol city to kill their corrupted mage court. He has a prodigious collection of elemental servants and is on the council for a thriving new major port metropolis and was Mordencainen’s personally picked protege for the party’s empty space after my cleric retired (you try playing through descent into Avernus with a light cleric and tell me how disenfranchised you are by the end of it).
He gives absolutely no shits about anyone but himself and it’s great! Definitely Blue Red Black with heavy, heavy emphasis on the Red and Blue and Black and Red dynamics. He’s a mad genius and he likes making things go *Boom!* what’s more for there to want?

As an old man from the days of 2nd Edition, so much of this video makes me twitch. We used to have Mages (generalist wizards), and power of specialization came with major drawbacks. Alignment change had consequences to make a change in personality actually mean something.

I wonder what the Wizard class would look like if it used the Color Pie for subclasses instead of the Schools of magic? 🤔

I do like the idea of a Blue, Green/Red, White necromancer (using their undead to make easier the life of others), but goodness the color palette is very shocking when implemented on the clothing XD
