  • Easy DIY how to: fixing a collapsing PCV hose on 2L 16V Zetec engines, a common Focus Mk1 problem, and replacing the PCV valve to ensure all possible related issues eliminated. These problems were identified after a rocker (valve) cover gasket blew, creating a major oil leak - failure of the PCV system can lead to increased crankcase pressure and so is a possible candidate cause.
    The follow-up video details the fixing of the symptom by replacing the rocker cover gasket: • Simple how-to: Replace...
    You will need:
    * PCV valve, Ford part to match car/engine featured: YS4Z-6A666-BA or Motorcraft EV250A - Amazon link amzn.to/2anLZcC
    * PCV hose, Ford part to match car/engine featured: XS4Z-6N664-BA - Amazon link amzn.to/29V3npM
    * Sockets and socket wrench, or spanners
    * Long nose pliers
    * Flashlight
    * Recommended: stainless steel hose clamp to replace horrible OEM spring clamp
    * Maybe: screwdriver
    * Maybe: knife
    Using the above Amazon links for purchasing parts will help support my channel and is appreciated!

    Removing the air box first made this a 15min job!! Also, old book trick to remove stuck hose; use pliers & twist stuck end. You'll have plenty of room with the airbox removed.

    thank you for this video this was the perfect quarantine DIY. I had a plot twist tho. the front elbow with the valve didn’t wanna move. I finally put all my force, yanked it and it broke, with a quarter of it perma-stuck to the metal. spent the next hour careful scraping it off with a small flathead screwdriver in small chunks. 2000 ZX3 hatchback I’ve put 150k miles on. guessing it was the original valve and elbow 😂

    I went to replace my PCV hoses and valve today but saw that the PCV valve grommet had some cracks in it. Thought I could drive down to any one of three national chain auto parts stores within 5 blocks of my home and pick one up, but no one carries the grommet. RockAuto doesn't even carry the grommet. I hope Ford does! Once again, great video! I just watched your video #2 - valve cover gasket replacement - and it was also very well done. I really appreciate your videos!

    Excellent info, well demonstrated and methodical troubleshooting that every other video seems to lack. My car had been having similar issues as you and other commenters expressed. My pvc hose actually had a huge hole in it. I duct taped it initially and that lasted for few months, until it failed as well. The spring clamp i could not figure out what the heck was going on due to lack of line of sight, until i watched your video. Underneath was easier for somethings on the job but above from side after removing air filter box was good too but i found that from the left side around the throttle body was most effective, after removing a few small house lines that are connected directly above the hose at rear of motor. But as i an female,i have smaller wrists so i may be able to get hands in where most men could not. I have new exhaust manifold that i want to put on, as mine has crack in it, so i most definitely will be removing that to gain access to the actual valve, which i have yet to replace. Other vids say to take water hoses off to get to valve, that is a pain and is costly. Compliments to your maticulous engine compartment!! Never have i seen one that clean!!! Was like, oh, that's what it is supposed to look like!!!!

    i changed pcv valve by jacking up front of car, going underneath, wiggling it out with left hand, pliers, and flat head screwdriver, just be sure to not tug on it too hard or you'll break the hard plastic the rubber hose it attached to. it took 10 minutes.

  • @225Perfect
    @225Perfect 8 лет назад +1

    Just changed the hose and valve myself, and I'd recommend that if you're going to do the same you be careful with the grommet the valve fits into. If you go to Ford they'll tell you that you can't get it by itself, it only comes as part of whatever the thing it fits into is, (Oil separator?) which is a $500 part. You can find out separately online, but it will cost you at least $20-30. I found one that kinda fit and made it work, but my advice would be to not mess with it unless it's obviously fragged.

    • @CraigsDIY

      Part # F5RZ-6A892-A for ~US$20 online. The grommet (plug) and also the plastic elbow on the other side of the valve are apparently common failures, though I had no issues.

    I had the same collapsed hose on my focus. The car drove just fine but would idle really low and wanted to kill at stop signs. I cut the elbow, attached a new elbow at the end with a plastic "hose coupler". Idles/runs great now :) NOTE!!! This is a factory molded hose with one end wider than the other so get a plastic connector that has 2 different sizes on each end. If that nmakes any sense :P

    That hose clamp is evil. It turned a job that should have only taken a half a hour into a couple of hours. Would have helped if I could see it so I knew how it was suppose to work. I eventually got it by just squeezing it randomly with a pair of pliers.
    Anyway, it's easier to reach if you take the air hose and throttle body off and go in from the left side. You can reach it without taking off the throttle body but you're going to cut up your arm. People are going to think I own a cat now.

    I have 2000 focus SE 2.0 Ztech DOHC and the OEM pcv valve doesn’t have suction on idle. Replaced it with after market that it did have suction on idle but the fuel consumption went up? Is OEM pcv valve doesn’t have suction on idle although it rattles?

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  5 лет назад +1

      At idle the valve should be near closed, but may not be completely. To see what's out of norm you will have to check if the engine is running lean, look at trims, or high idle. Also did you reset the KAM with the new valve, if it had adapted tune to the old open one the ECU may take a little while to re-calibrate.

    • @murhafsukkar9555
      @murhafsukkar9555 5 лет назад

      Craig's DIY Car thank you so much for the instructions. I did look into short and long fuel trim and very high which makes me believe that I have a vacuum leak and P1131 but since my obd blue driver is showing high intake air temperature (41 C while it’s below 10 outside) I’m thinking that the EGR is the reason for a vacuum leak. I did reset the PCM.

Search the part numbers I list above (verify your engine is in fact the same 1st) on eBay or Amazon.com and look for sellers that do international shipping.

I looked, and the hose which connects the throttle body to the fuel rail (picture here: www.carthrottle.com/post/56m857z/) was broken. I tried taping it back, and the idle immediately improved so I’m pretty sure that was my problem. My question is what’s the hose called, where can I buy one and how do I replace it? Yes it's one-way, but it's more sophisticated than that in the sense that it adjusts itself on a scale, which you can't test by blowing through it. So if it's old it's a case of just replace it.

    Thanks. Removing the hose from the tube (ruclips.net/video/qR0f_yfBPTQ/видео.html) I was able to use a screwdriver pushing end of hose while pulling the other end. Stuck pretty good, that was the hardest part. Removing the large air intake hose (place rag over engine intake) gives a lot more access room.
    Hose end at back of engine, access from underneath was way easier with car raised. Especially removing factory clamp. But more so installing new hose and band clamp. Old hose, there isnt a barb on engine nipple so it can be pried off as shown, just easier from underneath. The factory clamp easily released (ruclips.net/video/C0hX2ZMjEi0/видео.html shows the clamp and how it works).
    Next is the valve cover gasket using you other vid...

    If you have the Mk2 Focus, or any other car with the later Ford Duratec / Mazda L engines, see this video instead as it's a bit more involved: ruclips.net/video/-TR4pZdXZpg/видео.html

      Just bought the Haynes Manual for my Focus. Only problem is my engine isn't listed. I have the 1.6 L Zetec SE (2001) 5 Speed Manual. Any idea what gearbox is in it? (it's a european sold car if that helps). Thanks, love your channel, great stuff.

    You're lucky you don't have the Focus 2.0 Duratec motor.
    I just had my hose replaced and the intake manifold has to come off to get to it......$450.00!!!
    BUT...on the bright side my motor has a timing chain and not a stupid BELT, so I don't have to pay to replace the belt!!

      I do have a Duratec 2.0 in my own car. See my playlists and look up Duratec HE. I will actually be uploading intake manifold videos including PCV hose & valve over the next month or so. Now you understand this is a DIY channel right? You should be ashamed of yourself :)
