If there's one thing I learned from this video, it's that Kingdom Hearts invented both time travel and mysterious black-cloaked faceless figures. Neither of those EVER existed in fiction before Kingdom Hearts, let alone in previous Square titles, or even in the original FF7 itself for the latter.
But they weren’t in the original FF7, why does it matter if they were in things before? Should people just shut up and conform if they don’t like new and weird elements that are introduced in what was supposed to be a remake of a game that didn’t have those?

Been an FF7 since the beginning. I've played all of the spin-off games and watched the movie. Guess what: I was blown away by the ending and I thought it was a really cool way to tell a new but similar story without ruining anything. But I also thought Star Trek Beyond was a good movie so, apparently I like things most people don't LOL
I just finished playing the OG Final Fantasy 7, and I will say this. Considering the ending of the OG, FF7R is looking to be the new game plus the world's been waiting for.
Heck, I never played the original back in the day because RPG's have never been my cup of tea. Yet, watching the remake has gotten me excited about the game, enough to convince me to try it and enough to make me care about the world and its characters. I'm sorry about all those disappointed fans, but it's their loss. New fans will come along the way.
Funny how some people seem to misunderstand the definition of a "remake". A video game remake is a video game CLOSELY ADAPTED from an earlier title, usually for the purpose of MODERNIZING a game. It's not "doing the same shit as the original game but this time it has 2020 graphic". Still, some people might prefer a carbon-copy of the original game over a game that try to do something new to surprise the fan and provide them with a new experience.
So far I've gathered all of the negative reviews in a nutshell. "Nomura bad. Ending bad. Just like Kingdom Hearts bad" I'll say I feel bad for Kingdom Hearts being subjugated like that.
Just finished the game. I'd been mostly enjoying the game, but then, that final chapter, that ending, HOLY SHIT!. That final chapter, those last elements of the story, were amazing, and made it all so very worth it!
I agree with your closing remarks and found the rest of the video hilarious. I did not know there was such childish angst towards the game. I loved it, played through it twice and am enjoying all of the theories floating around. Can't wait for the next game, we are blessed to have an ending that gives us all so much to talk about.
The VERY FIRST FINAL FANTASY has the main villain travel into the distant past and send the Four Fiends into the future, who send the main villain into the distant past, who sends the Four Fiends into the future, who send the main villain into the distant past, etc etc etc, until space-time gives up and just declares that the entire game never happened after you kill the main villain. Compared to that, Sephiroth projecting his future brain into his cryogenically frozen past self a single time and angering the Time Ghosts is pretty damn straightforward.
It's not just old devs, it's also fans of the original who requested to work on the game. Nomura also mentioned how he didn't wanted remake to replace the original. All of this would make sense in the games going forward.
There's a theory about a series of movies called "rebuild of Evangelion". instead of remaking the story verbatim, rebuild of Eva got more room to do its own thing and derail itself from the original story of NGE, leaving room for people to be surprised, and giving the author room to retell the story in a way that prior limitations prevented. The theory about it, is that instead of being a replacement or reboot of the original series, the rebuilds function as an insane continuation of the original story, and that somehow a timeloop occured, and changes from that loop are causing the story to wander off in a different direction. Now, in regards to final fantasy 7 remake, it seems like they've gone with something similar. A reboot that isn't just a retelling of the original, but also, in some confusing way, a sequel. The complaints I'm hearing about it are "it's not exactly 100% like the original" "it's too long/padded, and I have no attention span and get bored" or the one that I see the most "I hate tetsuya nomura because I know his name and can assign blame to him for everything that goes wrong, while denying him any such credit for anything that went right". These arguments dont go anywhere, and don't seem to contribute anything to the conversation, and frankly, I think it's all a bit too reactionary.
I’ve been a fan of final fantasy for years and despite being young I’ve played both the original and the remake literally the only thing that’s different are the whispers zack possibility surviving and sepheroth but other than that it’s the exact same with more fleshed out areas if you hate the game because of the end then you hate it cause it slightly deviated from your expectations and if you can’t except that and go along for the ride like we did 23 years ago then your the problem
If you know all ff7 lore whispers are not new, and Zack when we seen him in the flashback has not died yet, he does not die til it starts raining which it just starting doing.

I actually bought and played the o.g. on my PS4 on sale a few days before getting the remake just the other day, and replayed it again. It's still on sale I believe, along with alot of other ffs.
14:55 okay, so like, there's a setting in the menus that lets you set the camera a bit further back during combat and non-combat (there's two parameters to toggle), and I myself was a bit annoyed by the camera being too close to cloud, but I toggled that feature in the menu and it's been smooth sailing since.
@INXISIV INXISIV I'm not saying it's overall mediocre. It has a LOT of highs, especially the cross dressing dancing, but there is so much unnecessary padding, and the animations take wayyy too long. When the game is fun, it's so fun, but when it slows down, it gets really bad sometimes

The game was extremely fun, but my god does it get bad sometimes. The padding, the lengthy, unnecessary animations that get me killed everytime I try to heal myself or do anything, and the extremely damage sponge monsters later in the game just make me want to get back to the main story. The game is really fun when it's good, but sections like the trainyard, the sewers, and the underground area with the arms, it just takes too long for it to be fun, this is just my opinion tho
There are a few valid reasons to criticise this game - pacing, textures, and I had a couple camera issues in battle. How you feel about the ending and the whispers is very subjective. And everyone acting like the word "remake" has some set in stone official definition is ridiculous. Nothing these cry babies mention warrants a 0 or 1 out of 10. Even if you hate the ending, I can't see how any one could honestly give it less than a 7. I personally found the execution of the ending to be ok, not great, but the implication that now we get to go on a new journey with these characters, where even people like myself have finished the original game countless times don't know what's going to happen, is awesome. If the story was going to play out exactly like the original, there would be no tension. This strips all the characters of their plot armour, and even Aerith's fate is unknown. My guess is she's still going to die in some way, but it's going to hurt more because it feels like there's a possibility she might not.
I’m 34 years old, played the original back in 1997 and I’m lost at all these laughable reviews. These reviews are pure cancer and I can’t believe these reviews are made by people that played the original game. The only truthful gripes I can pick out is the camera system and the padding, but it doesn’t compare to the grinding the original game had. I mean that’s all rpg’s back in the 90’s, you were required to level grind with random encounters throughout to advance. Could you imagine if they brought that over to the remake? After reading these reviews I’m just at a loss, lol these have to be trolls.
Some dipshit tried to tell me that FF7R is "Not what the fans wanted" and I just went "I bought a PS1 back in '97 solely to play FF7. Take your 'the fans' and shove it up your ass." If anything, the ending makes me MORE excited for part 2 because nobody knows what's going to happen next, what's going to be different. 7R had so much expanded and original content that nobody had a problem with, but as soon as Time Ghosts show up suddenly the game HAS to be an exact 1/1 conversion or it's a betrayal.

That is why they are afraid of Square adding new things to the originals story. People have lost alot of trust after so many years of being fed terrible games like Kingdom Hearts and FF13 and FF15 and so on. Once you lose the trust of customers that buy your stuff its very hard to make them believe in you again. If they change the story drastically in part 2 then they need to have it less convoluted with jumping from different times lines and such because it is very easy to destroy a story that way if not told well. People have the right to be worried with this project because of what Squarenix past record is like.
@@crossroads8370 And yet they trusted Squeenix to make an expanded version of the original game, with tons of rewritten dialogue, added scenes, new characters, and by their own admission had no problem with 99% of the game despite a major story deviation. It's only once Time Ghosts appeared and then promptly died that they pull a complete 180 and act like the entire rest of the end product doesn't count. Even if the time ghosts didn't exist they'd still have to make major changes to fit the episodic structure in future games. There's no satisfying way to end the game until they get to the City of the Ancients, so Nojima would just have to make something up. Not to mention that Avalanche HQ - something that didn't exist at all in the original game - would have to play a major part or be a complete waste to bring up at all. If they're already going to have to make this many changes, they may as well commit to it. If y'all want to be salty bitches in the corner go ahead and don't buy the next game. I'll be over here being the optimist because Remake surpassed all my expectations and won my trust for them to start deviating from the original plot.

Sure they made changes to things through out the game but it wasn't so huge that it didn't feel like the originals story until that ending at the highway. So no wonder 90% of the game was good to most people because the biggest part of the game was following the originals plot. Its the ending that is so different and off the wall from the rest that it almost doesn't seem to fit within the same game. And yes they could have had a better ending with Cloud getting off his bike and the crew walking up to the end of the highway as the sun is rising over the mountains in the distance. Then Cloud hears Sephiroth call his name in his head and Cloud grabs his head and he blacks out and falls through a worm hole tunnel like it showed at the end with Sephiroth and Cloud facing off against one another but the player gets to go one on one with Sephiroth but Sephiroth in the end makes Clouds attacks look like a joke and laughing off his attacks and beating Cloud down. Then it jumps to a cutscene of Sephiroth grabbing his hand as Cloud is out of breath and on his knees and telling Cloud he has 7 seconds till the end what will you do with it? With different kinds of visions of Meteor hitting the earth and so on and then it jumps back to Cloud waking up on the Highway and saying we need to leave and hunt down Sephiroth as they look out across the open valley below them.
Honestly the one thing that I can see being valid is going a little too hard on the sephiroth for the first installment. Even if that OST theme is the lit of "get fukd kid". But I'm going to quote Pat and Woolie on their take. I'd rather take a shot in the dark with a remake and go new places with new ideas or ambitions to be fresh and take the risk of botching it down the line than just have a shot for shot ssfe as fuck remake.

I dunno, anyone who bitches about how long they've been waiting to play a version of the original with better graphics is just willfully ignoring that they ALREADY did that. They remastered it for the PC, PS4, Switch... nicer graphics, updated backgrounds, even cheats to reduce the grind. Like, if you want to play the original but nicer, play that instead.; Am I a little worried for the remake's future installments and how the story could unfold? Sure. But I'm also deeply fascinated. It's in such a unique position to really play off of fan expectations, as well as expectations for Nomura's penchant for wild story telling. It's really impossible to say if Aerith will or will not bite the bullet in this version now, because both outcomes are equally likely and equally defiant of expectations. I mean, for all we know, Cloud'll jump in the way and get off'd himself, and wouldn't that be fucking nuts? Yes, it would. And the fact that's equally possible at this point is thrilling for me. Whether they play it straight and explore the futility of fighting destiny, whether they subvert it or avert it altogether... I'm intrigued enough to look forward to more. Not entirely on board, not entirely turned off. Just the right shade of anticipatory. I can't think of another game that could pull this off.
My only issue with the game, that's right a single issue with this whole game that took me a few days to complete, was the Hell House boss Hell House was a fun boss, but I had no idea how to fight it. Somehow beat it first try though And the ending was good in opinion Fighting Sephiroth with all you have only to realise he was barely trying

I honestly feel the ending shouldn’t ruin the entire experience of FFVII Remake. It didn’t change what happened before. The moments that I really like throughout the game weren’t now ruined because of the ending, and I did like it to a degree. How it’ll affect future parts going forward is something else

Honestly, as someone who got into FF bc of KH, I will never understand the animosity toward KH from FF fans. The purist that you are talking about think of Squarenix as an incompetent old friend who you can't trust to do anything right so you pat them on the head and say we don't mind working with you as long as you don't try and come up with new ideas because your ideas aren't that great. The purist want Squarenix to stick to the originals story because they think they can't tell a good unique story that's just as good or better then the originals anymore. After being burned all these years from games like FF13 to Kingdom Hearts to FF15 purist just don't have trust in Squares story telling anymore for their singleplayer FF games. That's why they say 90% of the game was good with the story but they last 10% is going off in a new direction and they know what Squares other games story telling is like and its not great so they want to know for sure where the story is going for all the next games so they aren't left hanging on where the games going in the end.

FF7 remake is a solid 6 out of 10 stiff combat and way to much padding to generate artificial length you get bored before the end unfortunately not the best way to remake the classic but with modern design philosophys and trends it would be hard to see this remake being anything else but disappointing

I think a lot of these reviewers are quite fair tbh. It's more about the fact the themes clash with the rest of the game than the fact it's not a remake. It doesn't work narratively. The gameplay and rest of the story is great though

I too hated the ending and I really have no interest in the next Parts because at this point I just don't care anymore, I'll simply play the original again on the Nintendo Switch and move on. I do agree that Square Enix should've made Final Fantasy XVI instead of this.

Again this is only the first 1/5 of the story, which is far from the best part. 10/10 implies that it can't get any better than this... which is false by default because 80% of the OG isn't even there. @INXISIV INXISIV I'm not saying it's overall mediocre. It has a LOT of highs, especially the cross dressing dancing, but there is so much unnecessary padding, and the animations take wayyy too long. When the game is fun, it's so fun, but when it slows down, it gets really bad sometimes
@@ubergamer2010 Nah, I just think it is. Now that I think about it, a 7.5/10 would be better, or maybe an 8/10, but I'm not giving it a 9 or 10. The game was extremely fun, but my god does it get bad sometimes. The padding, the lengthy, unnecessary animations that get me killed everytime I try to heal myself or do anything, and the extremely damage sponge monsters later in the game just make me want to get back to the main story. The game is really fun when it's good, but sections like the trainyard, the sewers, and the underground area with the arms, it just takes too long for it to be fun, this is just my opinion tho

There are a few valid reasons to criticise this game - pacing, textures, and I had a couple camera issues in battle. How you feel about the ending and the whispers is very subjective. And everyone acting like the word "remake" has some set in stone official definition is ridiculous. Nothing these cry babies mention warrants a 0 or 1 out of 10. Even if you hate the ending, I can't see how any one could honestly give it less than a 7.
I personally found the execution of the ending to be ok, not great, but the implication that now we get to go on a new journey with these characters, where even people like myself have finished the original game countless times don't know what's going to happen, is awesome. If the story was going to play out exactly like the original, there would be no tension. This strips all the characters of their plot armour, and even Aerith's fate is unknown. My guess is she's still going to die in some way, but it's going to hurt more because it feels like there's a possibility she might not.

I’m 34 years old, played the original back in 1997 and I’m lost at all these laughable reviews. These reviews are pure cancer and I can’t believe these reviews are made by people that played the original game. The only truthful gripes I can pick out is the camera system and the padding, but it doesn’t compare to the grinding the original game had. I mean that’s all rpg’s back in the 90’s, you were required to level grind with random encounters throughout to advance. Could you imagine if they brought that over to the remake? After reading these reviews I’m just at a loss, lol these have to be trolls.

If anything, the ending makes me MORE excited for part 2 because nobody knows what's going to happen next, what's going to be different. 7R had so much expanded and original content that nobody had a problem with, but as soon as Time Ghosts show up suddenly the game HAS to be an exact 1/1 conversion or it's a betrayal.
@@SuperLlama42 Its not that people wanted a 1/1 remake its that alot of fans of the original don't trust Squarenix to come up with their own unique story and it be good in the end. That is why they are afraid of Square adding new things to the originals story.
People have lost alot of trust after so many years of being fed terrible games like Kingdom Hearts and FF13 and FF15 and so on. Once you lose the trust of customers that buy your stuff its very hard to make them believe in you again.
If they change the story drastically in part 2 then they need to have it less convoluted with jumping from different times lines and such because it is very easy to destroy a story that way if not told well. People have the right to be worried with this project because of what Squarenix past record is like.
@@crossroads8370 And yet they trusted Squeenix to make an expanded version of the original game, with tons of rewritten dialogue, added scenes, new characters, and by their own admission had no problem with 99% of the game despite a major story deviation. It's only once Time Ghosts appeared and then promptly died that they pull a complete 180 and act like the entire rest of the end product doesn't count.
Even if the time ghosts didn't exist they'd still have to make major changes to fit the episodic structure in future games. There's no satisfying way to end the game until they get to the City of the Ancients, so Nojima would just have to make something up. Not to mention that Avalanche HQ - something that didn't exist at all in the original game - would have to play a major part or be a complete waste to bring up at all. If they're already going to have to make this many changes, they may as well commit to it.
If y'all want to be salty bitches in the corner go ahead and don't buy the next game. I'll be over here being the optimist because Remake surpassed all my expectations and won my trust for them to start deviating from the original plot.
@@SuperLlama42 The reason it won your trust is because they followed 90% of the originals story plot and even copied some of the originals dialogue. Sure they made changes to things through out the game but it wasn't so huge that it didn't feel like the originals story until that ending at the highway. So no wonder 90% of the game was good to most people because the biggest part of the game was following the originals plot.
Its the ending that is so different and off the wall from the rest that it almost doesn't seem to fit within the same game. And yes they could have had a better ending with Cloud getting off his bike and the crew walking up to the end of the highway as the sun is rising over the mountains in the distance.
Then Cloud hears Sephiroth call his name in his head and Cloud grabs his head and he blacks out and falls through a worm hole tunnel like it showed at the end with Sephiroth and Cloud facing off against one another but the player gets to go one on one with Sephiroth but Sephiroth in the end makes Clouds attacks look like a joke and laughing off his attacks and beating Cloud down.
Then it jumps to a cutscene of Sephiroth grabbing his hand as Cloud is out of breath and on his knees and telling Cloud he has 7 seconds till the end what will you do with it? With different kinds of visions of Meteor hitting the earth and so on and then it jumps back to Cloud waking up on the Highway and saying we need to leave and hunt down Sephiroth as they look out across the open valley below them.

Honestly the one thing that I can see being valid is going a little too hard on the sephiroth for the first installment. Even if that OST theme is the lit of "get fukd kid".

I dunno, anyone who bitches about how long they've been waiting to play a version of the original with better graphics is just willfully ignoring that they ALREADY did that. They remastered it for the PC, PS4, Switch... nicer graphics, updated backgrounds, even cheats to reduce the grind. Like, if you want to play the original but nicer, play that instead.;
Am I a little worried for the remake's future installments and how the story could unfold? Sure. But I'm also deeply fascinated. It's in such a unique position to really play off of fan expectations, as well as expectations for Nomura's penchant for wild story telling. It's really impossible to say if Aerith will or will not bite the bullet in this version now, because both outcomes are equally likely and equally defiant of expectations. I mean, for all we know, Cloud'll jump in the way and get off'd himself, and wouldn't that be fucking nuts? Yes, it would. And the fact that's equally possible at this point is thrilling for me. Whether they play it straight and explore the futility of fighting destiny, whether they subvert it or avert it altogether... I'm intrigued enough to look forward to more. Not entirely on board, not entirely turned off. Just the right shade of anticipatory. I can't think of another game that could pull this off.
My only issue with the game, that's right a single issue with this whole game that took me a few days to complete, was the Hell House boss

I honestly feel the ending shouldn’t ruin the entire experience of FFVII Remake. It didn’t change what happened before. The moments that I really like throughout the game weren’t now ruined because of the ending, and I did like it to a degree. How it’ll affect future parts going forward is something else
Also, can we stop treating a 'bad' remake or entry in a long-running series as a crime against humanity?! Making a bad or mediocre product is not grounds to be harassed and called a monster!

Honestly, as someone who got into FF bc of KH, I will never understand the animosity toward KH from FF fans. Even if I agreed that Nomura injected KH plot points into FFVIIR (which, he didn’t, ftr), so fucking what? These manbabies need to grow up immediately oml.
Not to mention, Nomura didn’t even realize he was considered a director for the game until it was announced publicly! He was constantly consulted on stuff Kitase, et al were planning but like. Come on. If they watched the behind the scenes stuff they were posting up to and after the game’s release, they’d have known that.
My problem with these purists and complainers is that they think they can speak for every FFVII fan. I also grew up with FFVII and it's my favorite game of all time. The purist that you are talking about think of Squarenix as an incompetent old friend who you can't trust to do anything right so you pat them on the head and say we don't mind working with you as long as you don't try and come up with new ideas because your ideas aren't that great. The purist want Squarenix to stick to the originals story because they think they can't tell a good unique story that's just as good or better then the originals anymore.
After being burned all these years from games like FF13 to Kingdom Hearts to FF15 purist just don't have trust in Squares story telling anymore for their singleplayer FF games. That's why they say 90% of the game was good with the story but they last 10% is going off in a new direction and they know what Squares other games story telling is like and its not great so they want to know for sure where the story is going for all the next games so they aren't left hanging on where the games going in the end.

FF7 remake is a solid 6 out of 10 stiff combat and way to much padding to generate artificial length you get bored before the end unfortunately not the best way to remake the classic but with modern design philosophys and trends it would be hard to see this remake being anything else but disappointing

I think a lot of these reviewers are quite fair tbh. It's more about the fact the themes clash with the rest of the game than the fact it's not a remake. It doesn't work narratively. The gameplay and rest of the story is great though
