- Texas-rigging soft plastic lizards is a classic springtime and early summer bass fishing presentation. Collegiate bass anglers Nick Dumke and Kobie Koenig head out on a new lake searching for a late spring pattern -- they land on pitching light Texas rigs to shallow grass pockets adjacent to spawning flats. There's a sweet spot during the spring where bass are at all stages of the spawn. Transitional bass behave differently and relate to a range of structure and cover, such as spawning flats, grass edges, woody cover, and bluegill spawning beds. Traditional wisdom states that lizard or salamander-style baits threaten bass eggs and fry, triggering an aggressive threat response. While this may be true, few can argue that a realistic creature bait flat out looks good and mimics various food sources.
Dumke explains how a light unpegged Texas rig allows the lizard to penetrate cover areas with a slow to moderate drop speed without burying in the grass or mud. There's no right or wrong way to fish it -- shake it on the bottom, drop it vertically around edges, or drag it across the bottom. The lizard delivers great fish-catching action.
Lastly, Dumke explains his preference for a capable 7-foot medium-heavy heavy-action rod with a 17-pound fluorocarbon line. The fluorocarbon excels for close quarters flippin' and pitching. At the same time, a longer rod supports solid sweeping hooksets and accurate pitches to cover elements.

im here so i can learn when to use the zoom lizard. these guys answered me , spring through early summer and fall again. I learned so much from watching these guys on youtube. its unbelievable as to how much knowledge these anglers can share with us i learned so much more from watching them in this vid then if i was sitting in a actual high school or college room right now.
Don't forget Summer on a carolina rig, humps, points, etc especially if your fishing via a boat.
@@brian_onthewater yes sir. i agree with you and if you're a bank angler like myself , then the lizard can be a really great search bait to search for the bass or catfish or really any species that you would like to catch.
Those lizards and hogs in the spring are great.

Zoom Lizard produces. If you are not throwing them in shallow water you are missing out. One of my favorite lures to Texas rig.

I used to do that when I started fishing and I’m right handed, but I switched to left handed reels and I’m holding the fishing 🎣 rod with my right hand 🤚 now, and I can set the hook 🪝 a lot better now.

Lizards are like worms for me. Have many flavors. Never caught anything on any of them.
It amazes me how often professional fisherman confuse flippin' and pitchin', they use the term interchangeably. Flippin' is not done with a reel in freespool, flippin' does not pull line off the reel. Flippin is done by holding and pulling on the line to flip the lure to a new spot without changing the amount of line that is out, the reel is always engaged and the spool does not move. Pitchin' is a longer distance cast where line does come off the reel in freespool. You didn't flip at all in that video but called it flippin many times. That bugs old timers like me.

Most bass anglers know the different but despite it, prefer the term "flipping" over "pitching" when actually pitching. Nationwide, it does seem that true flipping is used a lot less than yesteryear. In any case, the content is what it is.
@@Wired2Fish and the content is always great. Like the other guy said I was just being nit picky over terminology. I hear flippin so often when guys are pitching I end up saying it myself.
