I use rubber cement thinner
+peachemojiasf I tried just using baby oil and a Q-tip and it worked great.
You can also blend by layering the colored pencils. You start layering with light pressure and your last layers you color with hard pressure. That will blend the colors together.
even just using the white color pencil works great.

Steh 23 babyoil! Just be sure to use enough layers before you apply the oil. otherwise it doesn't work!

Interesting technique.. never thought of that. I have a ton of cheap coloured pencils that are terrible to blend but this may help. Thanks. Great art by the way.. i've always liked using a cotton swab too :)

It will usually only work with watercolor pencils, though.

I don't actually know. Baby oil works really good with any colored pencil, but I'm not sure about paint thinner.
Raven Arella Don't use baby oil. It WILL destroy your art. Paint thinner works great though.

I just buy Faber-Castell Polychromos, although expensive (I payed £40 for a tin of 24 colours) they are high quality, waterproof and give an AMAZING effect, definitely best pencils I ever had, and since they're expensive, I recommend buying pencil extensders, so that towards the end of its lifespan, it will still feel comfortable in hand when drawing,... If you buy separate Polychromos, they cost like £2.50 or £2.00 at hobbycraft

To everyone asking what they can use other than this product, baby oil is also very useful.
Do you do it in paper? If so how does the thinner not bleed the paper
Dab the brush nearly dry. Try it on a test paper
atleast have a thick paper
I find that Citrisolve does the same thing, but without the toxicity.
I've been doing this technique myself now, I'm drawing and coloring a flower with my Prisma's and the thinner is working great. However I do have a concern. I was looking at what I've done so far, the colors blend great but I can still see the wax binder as it reflects sunlight when tilting the paper. Is that an indication that I'm doing it wrong in any way?
My reason for asking this questions is because I had the assumption that the thinner dissolves the binder, no matter if it's wax or oil based, to make the pencils cores. Since I can still see the wax shine, I just wanted to know if I'm doing it wrong.
I've also been using Cotton Swabs to apply the thinner since I don't have a brush on hand.

i suggest you to buy an electric one, its faster and you have less chances to break the tip of the pencil :) but if you cant buy it then a manual shapener ( original ones )

Not really useful, the darker colors took control of the yellow, you would have to use waaaay less red/green/whichever color you're using

I'm pretty sure the pencils he used for this weren't watercolour, so I don't think it would matter if they were or not. Though I've been wrong before..

Rickra Christy the acids in our skin will cause the pigmentation to fade exceptionally fast, this is why artists use solvents such as these, lightfast. It won't be worth your efforts in the long run if you use your finger to blend a piece that took you more than an hours time
