  • Uli Behringer's interview at the Pre-NAMM Synth-A-Thon where he talks about his early beginnings as a musician, and the evolution of DeepMind12.
    Uli's first introduction to music was through his father, who had a church organ in the house that had 1200 pipes. It was his passion and spent his life building it. During this time as Uli was a young boy, he learned from him and carried the torch on.
    The first piece of musical equipment Uli ever made was a synthesizer when he was 16 years old.
    Then in the 80's, he was in a jazz band, studying sound engineering and piano in Germany. He was a struggling musician playing jazz in bars with friends, during the day studying. His good friend Harold was into Frank Sinatra which inspired Uli's passion for his music.
    All these moments lead up to Uli building the DeepMind12.
    He worked with the MIDAS developers in Manchester about building a new synthesizer. The team there built something quite incredible with amazing features like augmented reality.
    Pete Sandler was one of the key developers, and the DeepMind12 is one of Uli's greatest products.

    This was surprisingly touching. Newfound love and respect for behringer, and I already had plenty because I appreciate their value for money.

    I am waiting very patiently for my Synthi. I love my deepmind12, Model D, tb3, but the Synthi is what my heart yearns for. It sparked my passion for electronics, psychoacoustics, etc etc. thank you behringer for helping me realize my hearts intent!

    I have nothing but respect for this brilliant gentleman. Releasing a FIRST synthesizer, being one of the BEST synthesizers on the market, even over competition, and having the FAIREST prices on the market. I see nothing but future success of Behringer and releases of new Synthesizers. I am a VERY PROUD owner of the DeepMind 12! I will always own this Synthesizer! THANK YOU Uli Behringer!!!
    Honestly, Uli, there are studies that show that when you give others the flexibility to do WHATEVER it is they want or envision in a product, then it becomes the BEST and MOST successful product! Keep this open-door policy with your engineers to do WHATEVER they envision or imagine. This will let you lead the world in Synthesis and develop the most amazing synthesizers. Thanks for listening to the users! You're the RAREST breed out there! Every company needs a CEO like you!

    I remember that during the 90's and early 2000s, there was all this speculation that Uli Behringer wasn't even a real person.
    Good to see he came out of the shadows and also started making decent kit.

    Wow very impressive. I feel we are in a time when history is being made, I feel Uli is making himself available to us all in way never been done before. We know he has the where-with-all (company, resources, manufacturing) so know he's for real. Even I feel excited by this! (BTW: I do have a lot of B products, since year 2000)

    Thanks for the beautiful DeepMind 12, Uli. It will be an absolute killer if the next gen. DeepMind adds a digital engine (wavetable, granular, sampling, etc.), extensive controls, multitimbral and more polyphony (as the result of adding a digital engine). If Roland can build JD-XA for $1,900, you can do much better, thanks!

    Wondering if your going to build a 16 track or more digital multitrack recorder? i like the Tascam but i am a dedicated Behringer fan .My hole studio is strictly Behringer except my multitrack recorder. Love to see Behringer build one. God bless and thank you.

    Wow, he looks very young. Quite a good communicator (and obviously business man), almost more "american" in his mentality than German. Although he play the "human" guy quite a bit, I believe he really has a passion for synths.
    He started with somehow questionable products, only second of third choice quality wise, but it seems that their new products are getting better and better. DeepMind12 (nice name) sounds like a modern synth, but very good. Who would have dreamt 15 or 20 years ago that we will be able to buy new polyphonic synths for very affordable prices. No need for vintage synths (that will break every once in a while) that cost thousands.
    So: respect to Uli Behringer.
    One thing maybe: He emphathizes that "we will build whatever you want, guys", however I'd appreciate him having his own visions and ideals for what a great instrument should be like.

    I'm pretty satisfied with my DM12, but it also has some limits. Please consider in next product:
    a second or even third full funtional osc
    more primary waveforms (sine, triad, etc.), they are the heart of sound
    no decrease of sound power in (very) low frequencies compared to Moog
    Uli, thank you for your concern about musician's need
    PS: And I'm waiting for the desktop variant

    Uli can you guys make something that specializes at the Supersaw waves? I'd love this for trance music; and other companies aren't delivering with their less expensive, retro lineups. I haven't tried the deepmind but it's a little out of my price range. Maybe something that sounds similar to the JP-8000 or the Access Virus Ti. Doesn't matter if it's analogue or digital; as those originals were both Digital. Thanks!

    We would love to have a hardware rack mount sampler. That could also sit on a table for desktop use. It would not have pads. Just a screen for seeing wave form etc. It would have knobs to control sample start position and real time time stretching. As well as knob for filter. Eq. Adsr. Amd simple instant effects. Something like akai z8. In new form. A sampler with software flexibility as it could be hooked up to your comp. We need something like the new akai live, but with out pads and rack mount. Let the costumer pick their midi controller.

    yeah this synth is brilliant and the keyboard touch is awesome. I love to see a real easy to use step sequencer in it like in the Monologue or DSI synths.

    • @laurencevanhelsuwe3052
      @laurencevanhelsuwe3052 7 лет назад +1

      I'm not buying the Deepmind precisely because it doesn't have a normal step sequencer. If they manage to add this to the firmware in the future, they sell one more unit !

    • @Monoteur
      @Monoteur 7 лет назад

      Laurence Vanhelsuwe ...with me the same. I tried the synth in the shop intensely and it is great, but the lack of a step sequencer keeps me away from buying it. If they adding this one day, I'm in the shop again

    Uli said something that, all these months later, confirmed my thought from when I first heard the synth: the DM12 sounds emotional. To my mind, it has some hidden, organic quality that I cannot put into words, but it is beautiful. Even a single note played triggers an emotion in me that I have never felt before with other synths. I wonder what it is...

    Its a nice hear new vintage clone will made! My only concern, even oberheim and dave smith and roland and korg cannot reissue proper clones. They wont see there is soft clipping. There is nice gradient low passed top end on oscillators. If the oscillators sounding digital in a new synths because of designers dont care about op amps, and cap soft clipping as it should.
