So you could've just went to home depot, got a heating element, changed it, and Rheem would've paid for the element but you would rather take a cold shower?
Customer service I spoke to yesterday was nice, helped the best she could, and said if I wasn’t out of grace period with Home Depot, to bring it back if I was tired of it and she’d completely understand… their “warranty work” for calling your plumber, is $150 they cover…. But 150 is pretty much the service call charge… they should cover what ever the charge is….
I had a Rheem Everclean 6 year that was still working at 12 years. I only decided to replace because I am pretty sure the anode rod was gone (I had to turn up the temp control to get hotter water) and I started to see a little rust up by the nipples on top. I was pretty happy with that unit so went with Rheem again, this time from Home Depot and me and my buddy installed ourselves. I hear lots of bad things about the new Honeywell controllers, just hope I have no issues.
heres the thing... the Performance Line has 1 year rated Copper Elements that cost $8 at home Depot OR!!!! you could upgrade to Stainless Steel Elements that are in the Rheem Gladiator and stick them in your Performance for $18 each and then you have 5 year elements... you could even upgrade to the Titanium Elements but they cost $65 so screw that... Cheaper Models have Cheaper Parts so you can upgrade them as they break.. not fun but its possible.
I bought a Rheem thru Home Depot 12yr warranty by Rheem. Saturday install .. & I powered it up at 4pm about 9:30pm, a mfg defect killed it. Sunday morning talked to Rheem customer service, established an account, they sent an email to me that is a "Warranty Claim Form Instructions" that has a WCN# Then, Sunday afternoon talked to Home Depot. They put me on the phone with 1-800-Heaters. They asked for the WCN# (a must have) Monday morning by 11am I had a New Heater. I only had to pay for the town permit.
Rheem sucks!!! Same tried there best to blame it on me. Had it only year. Got my own plumber. He did some replacements fixed it. Year later happened again. I financially struggle. My kids and I will have to take cold showers and boil water until I can afford a plumber. I absolutely hate them.
sounds like the element shorted to ground if it trips the breaker. you will get a more accurate reading on meter if you remove the wires on the element.after checking ohms take one lead touch to the metal socket part of the element and the other to one screw on the element at a time and see if it has shorted. put the meter on the setting that makes buzzing sound. and always check resistance/ohms on the lowest ohm setting .one thing I have learned over the years is never change the temp setting on thermostat leave it at the factory setting. And you can change out the element without draining water heater, have done it several times the bottom one is the easiest .
I just replaced a Rheem under warranty with a newer ( and supposedly better) model and it still cost me money! If the new one isn’t the same as old one you may even have to change the way it’s plumed $100-$175 out of my pocket!
There are going to be bad products, but with rheem the number is pretty low. I have just replaced one that has given me 25 years of trouble free service. What did I replace it with??? A Rheem.
So you went days without hot water because you chose to not go to Home Depot and buy a $12 element that can be installed in 5 minutes + made a video about it. All of these off the shelf basic water heaters from ( AO Smith, GE, Reliance, Rheem, Kenmore ) are all of similar quality & use the same inexpensive universal parts that you can get an any home improvement store. Heck you can buy a kit that includes both thermostats and elements for under $40. One shouldn’t bother calling customer for those issues, ends up costing you more & wastes time, Maybe only for leaks from the tank or factory installed fittings.
Rheem products are no good anymore. Mine leaked in 2 places after it was installed. Do yourself a favor and get a a.o. smith hot water heater at Lowe's. Very disappointed. I mean the pressure relief valve was leaking and it leaked at the bottom. Great vid. Rheem products are very cheaply made in Mexico.
I got the same trouble with my water tank and it is a Rheem..Same song and dance...but went and got the the kit .It was 2 elements and 2 thermostats...Guess what it don't work. So I got Rheem up the ass..They said my breaker wasn't big enough. I know that is bullxxxx..because had one on same breaker for 15 yrs.. And my Rheem is only 1yr and 3 months..
Purchased Rheem July 2021. Broke September 2021. The plumber who installed it allegedly fixed it. November 1 and it's broken again. The plumber said to call Rheem. Rheem is back & forth all week. They outsource contractors via an app. The contractor is supposed to come Monday, November 8. Cold as fuck here in Philly. Rheem SUCKS. Honeywell does too. Rheem does not GIVE A FUCK.
So they try and blame it on you and your home electric. I'm sure your tv, frid, oven, wash/dryer are working fine. Somehow your old water heater worked fine but its still something with your electric. That why they are called Scheme. Let us know if it got fixed.
Me too. Unit is only 5 months old. Performance Plus unit, 5500 watts. Went to Ace, got a universal element and replaced it myself. Rheem is sending a replacement element . Might get here in 4 days. The element looks like it exploded. Oh, and home depot does not have the original element and you can't order them on line through home depot. By not waiting I'll lose money.
@@kenoverton6910 that's awful! Mine ended up being the thermostat when my power surged randomly, I also had my temperature gauges set on 2 different settings apparently & $150.00 they fixed it & checked everything else on the unit. The warranty is crap if the unit won't even make it past 1 year without problems. I tried the red reset button but it didn't help.
Today my Rheem Platinum Gladiator water heater stopped working. It’s giving me the 5 blinking Red Light code for control board problem. This heater is 10 months old. I am in a US territory so I know Rheem cannot help me! I am going go to another brand. This expensive Rheem water heater is lousy.
I bought an 80 gallon GE electric water heater (made by Rheem)at Home Depot in 2000. It was a 12 year warranty, and I installed it myself. Twenty years later it's still going strong with very little maintenance. Just got lucky, I guess.
I replaced my water heater that was made in 1979 and still worked. In 2020, I replaced it with a Rheem performance platinum and it stopped working this week. Looks like the bottom element went bad. I knew it wouldn't last as long as my old one since it has too many electronics in it.
Well hi install Rheem water heaters to my customers, and that sticker on there is simply too get you to call Reem first to give them the chance to correct it. But the second a customer service rep from Rheem would’ve gave me the attitude, “ how do you know it’s a manufacture defect” , I would immediately take it right back to Home Depot. Home Depot does not ask questions they take it back within 90 days of purchase.
Rheem fantastic ? Check those temperatures . they'll turn em up blowing the blow off valve off and new Or old theyll keep blowing .they can keep their trash
Testing heater element you want to remove the leads to your terminals as you may be measuring internal circuit resistance
So you could've just went to home depot, got a heating element, changed it, and Rheem would've paid for the element but you would rather take a cold shower?
That's exactly what I was thinking this guy's a ass !
Cheaper to change your self $20 part
My thoughts exactly. Super easy job to replace, been there done that.
@@roblenox1711 no he said Home Depot was charging 60 bucks for the element that they were marking it way up

Read my post on this thread tonight.
How is it 4 years later ?

thats my problem i dont know how to use a tester , what to set it on any ifo please

Man, you don't measure resistance on heaters with the wires attached, you could be measuring the other side and not the elements...
how about disconnecting the bottom element ....would stop breaker blowing ....top element will heat up some water....

They told us the same thing. Home depot let us exchange it and still no hot water. I think we all need to file a class act lawsuit

Its Rheem their built-in Mexico and like most stuff that are built in Mexico they lack inspection.
It really is a game of luck draw with Rheem.

Same here. August 2020 manufactured now its dead, not working.
I have a 2020 Rheem performance also 40 gal and it never worked correctly from day one... Doesn't make warm or hot water
That's me too!
For the A/C, I'm happy with my Trane units.
Wish I had watched this video before I bought a Rheem 😢
Going through the same exact thing now
me too, what did you end up doing?

Read my post on this unit.
I bought mine at Home Depot 6 yr warranty. I have replaced the heating elements twice. It’s terrible for a disabled Grandmother !!!

Yes Raheem service is really bad don’t buy from them, their customer service does not care, very rude fight with you about faulty heater
That's Why When I Replaced My Hotwater Heater I Went Back With Whirlpool Because That Who Made The One I Replaced

Mine just did the same thing we had ours for 2 months popped the breaker and made a popp
Two DAYS??! How about 2 months? That's what happens when you have no idea and no money as a widow on a set income.
the electric ones don't seem to have these kind of problems. almost every redeem water heater I'm seeing that went bad early is a has one
Mines doing the same thing & yes c/s sucks .its bad 😵
Customer service at Theem does not exist. That company is a joke.
I will only ever get a GE ever again... Had a 40 gal FE for 17 years and no problem
GE
look at the bottom of sticker on your GE.. "manufactured by Rheem" 😉. same exact tank, just white with a GE label on it
240V x 240V = 57,600
57600/13 ohms = 4,430 Watts
Looks like the upper element is OK and the lower is effectively a direct short.
P = V_2_/R
I was just wondering, how do you really feel about Rheem?
BAD. Their Honeywell controllers are defective anymore.
I had the white, blue top Rheem for 18 years. It was excellent. The Rheem you are describing now doesn't really make the water hot at all.
It is a garbge product, just got something else. Learn my listen the hard way.
They won't even send anyone to look at it
SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE THERMOSTAT AS WELL.
Rheem fantastic ? Check those temperatures . they'll turn em up blowing the blow off valve off and new Or old theyll keep blowing .they can keep their trash
Bad customer service no buy...
Rheem isn't a plumbing company. You or Rheem need to schedule a plumber.
