The fact the gate still functions is absolutely mindblowing. The Austrians have put some serious black magic wizardry into that HMS.
No black magic - just know-how and years of experience, passion and the master class of "designers" and engineers. Coupled with the highest quality standards and only the best raw materials. That's it :)
@@Austrialpin_ In the end, magic is simply science and engineering that is so far ahead of everything else it seems unexplainable. Bravo on an excellent design. I will be looking at your gear next time I need something.
@@huntergibson9359 we are of the same opinion! Thank you very much! We appreciate it! Greetings from Austria! And we wish you lots of fun with our gear!
You should see their autolocking ones, it's amazing engineering
i love watching the annual march madness underwater basket weaving tournament as well thanks ryan
Hello from Austria :) we not only manufacture the strongest buckles in the world, but also ( OBVIOUSLY! ) carabiners :) #strenghisbuiltnotgiven :-)
We are already looking forward to the next video! --> May we bet? ;-)
💪😎
yes you should bet! what do you think it will break at? also get more distrubtors in North america! i wanna buy these!
I would absolutely love to see Ryan test your Cobra Buckles…
I have seen some interesting use applications of them and want to understand their limitations.
@@ElectricAir42 nice idea :) challenge accepted :)
@@ansamerch So we think it's tearing up the testing machine. ;-) We assume no liability if they try to tear our Pirum ;-) Joking aside - it's very hard to say, as the Pirum has quite a lot behind it. But we dare to bet that we will still reach the +30kN. (we are very excited to see what will come out. :) - maybe 35kN?
"... March Madness like baseball does". 🤣🤣
My students asked what teams were in my bracket, I should have said DMM Big Boa and CAMP.
guys face after “Its like in golf” 8:24
Can we all give a round of applause to Austria for their fine craftsmanship! Loaded to 30 KN and still (mostly) functional? Bravo!
THANK YOU - THANK YOU ! :) We are proud of our quality from Austria :)
“It’s like in Golf⁉️😳😶” :: 🤣🤣🤣
Would have never guessed the Black Diamond would hold that strong. I switched to those about 3 years ago and love them. Now I love them even more. Can't believe I am just seeing this video
Yesss! I suggested you do this March madness style breakdown when you did the first video and I’m so happy you are doing this. Whether or not my comment had any influence, I’m still stoked.
that moment when you bought 2 Trango Regulocks 4 days ago and then watch as they get eliminated in round 1....
Glad to hear it reached 28KN!
Yeah if you're needing 28KN on your connections you need to just skip carabiners all together and go straight to shackles and quick links.
That moment when you are 6’5” 350 pounds of no climbing… but love the channel and sport. 😞
Super strong enough!
Team trango checking in!
“Because it’s March, we’ll do it like the March Madness baseball does.” LoLz
Can't wait to see a Steel Carabiner shootout.
Definitely my favorite HowNOT2 video of the year 😂👍 First it was the snow anchor video, but this gem 💎 has surpassed it, especially with all the input from the peanut gallery 🤣👍
This was my former tie- in carabiner ! :) ☺☺❤❤💪 The Ocun screw lock HMS. I used it for the standing end on Spiderjack 2.1 dyneema with MRT, which is great. A pity that is hasn`t won the fight.
Nice to see that the cheapest brand here in Austria wins.
cheapest brand?
@@Austrialpin_ I bought my 6 Quickdraws new for ~60€ and some Carabiners for under 10€. I don’t think you can get quality stuff for climbing any cheaper.
@@antrumkfpsalatschleuder8768 ahhhh :) - in this context :) Now I understand :)
We are very happy if we can convince you not only with the quality but also with the price!
So moral of the story climb with quick links because they are the strongest
That blooper reel… gold.
Also, thanks John
I was looking to see some Austrialpin carabiners in this chanel since I got a bunch of them. I get to known them because of the the high forces they can stand with the gate open (compared to other carabiners)
Thank you for your trust in our quality from Austria! Development and production are in one place: in Tyrol. This guarantees the highest quality and safety of the products, as we have full control ourselves.
Match Mardness!!!! Woooot! 🙌🏽
WAAAAAAAAARRGGGHHHHHH!! i wanna knooooooooooow!!!!!!^^
hurry up and let the next competition come!
we are also very excited :) Bets are now being accepted :)
Until the Semi Finals Of the fencing March Madness, Every Carabiner that Broke was on the Moving End of the SLACK Snap Machine. Does the side that it is placed on effect the results ?
0:27 your smoothest troll yet
"This time we're doing brackets like baseball" lnfao
You should use the same application on all gear ,and made into a series. Harness vs harnesses, gri gri vs Birdy , Guide A.T.C vs Tube A.T.C. dragons vs Alain's ect.
and our AUSTRIALPIN amplified braking device set: "THE FISH" of course too :) #challengeaccepted
Love the showdowns.
was just looking for a carabiner last night! got the austrialpin! love the vids :)
Nice! :)
5:32 You said „It smells like gunpowder“, I have noticed that my petzl quickdraws smell like gunpowder too, when you clip and the latch closes quickly lol
Low key hate for not breaking the last one... lol. Now I have to watch the next vid. :)))
AWESOME VIDEO! Now for a little terminology definition - Single action = non locking carabiner |double action/single locking = screw gate or single autolocking carabiner | triple action/double locking = a carabiner that requires two distinct motions to release the locking mechanism prior to being able to open the gate. This matters to the ‘treepeople’ because of how abusive we are to gear and those pesky ANSI standards/OSHA
What do you call the grivel twin gates? It only takes a single action to open the gate.
@@alexanderruff1829 thanks for the comment! I had never seen or heard of the Grivel twin gate carabiners and I really like the ingenious design. I would call them a double action nonlocking caribiner. From my perspective (and I am not the end all be all in this department) there are two distinctive gates that open in opposite directions with no locking mechanism on either gate.
"Match Mardness" got me.
What a great idea to make this lockers to break like this!! Really fun
Thanks!
That pause after "its like golf" so good hahaha.
That confused stare.
As soon as he said "like baseball does," I knew this was gonna be a great episode.
Another great video! Thank you, guys. Re Ocun - it's pronounced "otsoon" ;) Absolutely love their gear.
Hownot2outro ;) hahaha loved it...
Damn cliffhangers!😁
Waiting for that sweet, sweet Austrian sponsorship.
Good cliffhanger ❤
I like your videos. Entertaining and educational
Question for a future video... Is there any real value to the fancy anti-crossloading belay carabiners? Even minor axis strength is 8kn+ and I can't find any documented cases of belay carabiners breaking.
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Yeah...Austria Rocks 😄🤘
Nice greetings from Austria!
genau so ischs :)
This was easier to watch than basketball
“that baseball does” my man
As a tree guy who's gear sees abuse, the first I will still buy is a DMM
Though should have tried ISC... but don't know if they make a nonsteel pear shape
Nice to see that. Can you test ferrata carabin as well? Like Attac G3, Ergotec 2.0 VF, ...
Dang.. i have/use that black diamond and was rooting for it! lol
Please do a video testing the edelrid bulletproof carab.. it soul be so interesting to see how the steel insert would perform
Would have been cool to see some action with the drop tower. Hopefully more drop tower videos coming soon!
That was hilarious.
Cool vid!
Good one.
loved the ending!!!!!!
I hate you a little bit for the ending. See you next video.
we feel you :)
Nice to see you. So cheering video!
THE MADNESS!!!
These are such cool videos!
Love to see the testing
This is awesome.
Was hopeful you’d just let the initial sports slip lay to see the jackals come correct an obvious joke, but probably safer to make the joke increasingly obvious.
The Kentucky derby of carabiners.
I'd love to see how an aluminium HMS with steel insert, like the Edelrid Bulletproof, would perform in such a showdown
We tested one in a different showdown video.
*sees title*
*excited girlish scream*
I'm sure it's a perfectly fine caribiner but it still sucks to see the caribiner I'm about to buy (Trango) break first!!!😂
ah nothing like the baseball march madness
For everybody wondering how to pronounce their new favorite brand of carabiners: it's "Austree-alpeen"
Right. But it doesn't bother us too much :) Thanks for the hint at this point :)
- was glaubst du?
@@Austrialpin_ Bin optimistisch und schätze 38KN
@@peterpwn9558 mit der Vorbelastung ist es echt schwer zu sagen :) aber die 30kN+ sollten drin sein. :) bin echt schon gespannt
@HowNOT2 - we are waiting for the final video ... :) go for it!
You should do a study to examine rope friction and wear.
Question what does the quick link break at? How much stronger is it vs any of the carabiners?
Hi... Do you have do a captive eye carabiner break test... Which will break 1st? The eye or the carabiner?
I think the winning carabiner in these showdowns should be given to a subscriber and a duplicate should be broken for the data.
I am from Austria too :-) #winners
wie Rainhard Fendrich
so schön verfasst hat: "Da kann ma´ machen was ma´ will,
da bin i her, da g´hör´ i hin, ..." :)
Can you do a video with doing a break test but have them be connected to the machine as a pair? I.E. does doubling the carabiner double the strength/safety?
Match Mardness.
How come you guys haven't put any of the rock Exotica carabiners in
I wonder how many scattered carabiner noses are in that garage.
I want them Austrian Alpines
Finally :D
Ryan you look a lot like thatdudeinblue
Ok, what does Bobby have against Petzl? Genuinely curious.
"Its like in golf" (confused look)
Where’s the second part??
다음 시즌은 언제입니까? 4년을 기다려야 하나요?
These are great haha
Can you guys do a quick draw showdown? 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
hopefully they will pick us again :) with our AUSTRIALPIN ELEVEN quickdraw set !!!! 🙏
Are you gonna do a video where you shock load the HMS carabiners on the Drop tower?
Shouldn't something (strap, etc) be in between them for consistency.
Edit: I guess some of them are.
👍💯🔥😁
Dmm has since downgraded their green hms to 25kn on all newer carabiners I’ve been able to find near me. The red twist lock is still rated at 32 however.
Let's go! :D
No rock exotica?
Smith Sharon Martinez Brian Davis Jose
My prediction: Austrailpin is going to blow at 39.81 kN, one percent higher "percent over MBS" than that final BD Locker achieved in this track meet.
(Of course, that's assuming you guys do it CORRECTLY, and make sure you put hinge-side of the Caribiner on the pull-side, and the Nose-side of 'biner on the static side🤣)
HOW DOES THAT THING STILL WORK?!!!!
In this episode you will learn HowNOT2 pronounce Czech Republic.
Eh, he was at least trying to say the non anglicized version. He gets points for that.
To me a carabiner that breaks closer to its rated breaking strength could be more indicative of a quality well designed carabiner than one that exceeds it. If you are a company making carabiners you would start with design constraints like MBS and then optimize for weight and get as close to the MBS as possible. Having an average breaking strength closer to the MBS with a tighter standard deviation would be lighter and more consistently produced than having a higher MBS with a larger standard deviation. Also in the case of the Petzl carabiner its possible that the breaking strength was lower due to the differences in the UIAA test method and this one, or the load cell may not be calibrated.

no grivel twingates? i really wanna see how strong these are
Stay tuned
I also want to know how strong they are with one of the gates open!
Where did you get your green shirt?
Found the answer!
