I'm glad I found this video. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need this information. I'm about to install an aftermarket alarm system in my '96 Ford Ranger. I'm also going to be installing aftermarket door lock actuators that will be controlled by my alarm system. I haven't decided between two alarm systems on Amazon which both seem pretty good. The two alarm systems are the Avital 3100LX and the Viper 350 Plus 3105V.
Hi Jeremy, thanks checking out our video. Both the alarms you are looking at are good alarms. The biggest difference between the two are the remote look and the led on the Viper 3105v is built into the antenna and is blue instead of red. You might want to pickup a DEI 451m door lock relay harness as well. It will make the installation a little easier.
Thank you for this very informative vid. Besides knowing how to wire the relays, I also learned how to hook up a dash switch to the alarm and relays. Thanks again.

Great video thanks, but i have [2] questions: 1. do you loop the positive 85 86 87 87 together and run to the battery?... 2. and 85 and 86 is that where you connect your alarm and lights so they will flash? Thanks again!!! I'm retired just like trying stuff myself. Have a blessed day!
Yes sir you will tie both 87s and one 85 and 86 from opposite relay to 12 volts. The left over 85 and 86 will run to the alarm door lock outputs. If you are trying to add a relay to power lights I have a video covering the basics of a relay installation. ruclips.net/video/GjR4Ko5r57s/видео.html
So I found this setup wired in a truck that a bought with a positive and negative (I assume) trigger wire running over to the drivers side of the truck with a small 2 pin plug on it. It appears that maybe someone removed the radio triggered portion of the system. What should I buy to put in its place to restore the keyless entry? Is there a wireless reversing relay out there?
This is also helpful for replacing the slide controller on an RV. Lippert (formerly Power Gear) controller boards use a pathetic little DPDT relay that burns out easily when the slide gets old and the load gets bigger from the worn motor and dried grease on the gears. Instead of buying a $140 replacement from Lippert, this works fine, but you may have to change the 12V connection at 85/86 to a ground, as many older RV's used a positive trigger. Also, Lippert's replacement boards are ONLY negative trigger, and this method saves you the trouble of changing your slide switch from positive trigger to negative trigger. Be looking for a video about this on my channel in the coming weeks. I will also be using a similar method to manually open/close the choke on my generator from inside the camper.
