  • How to restore faded plastic parts like this SeDoo hood. My jet ski faded after sitting outside for more than a year. In this video I show you how to restore its original color using a heat gun. You also get to meet Max, the newest member of our family. He's only a puppy but he's highly trained...well, sort of.

    yes this is a good method but some 2,000 to 3,000 grit sandpaper and some buffout works just fine too.

  • @user-ej1bq4bq2w
    @user-ej1bq4bq2w 2 года назад

    Doing this ruins the hood even more than it already was. It's oxidized from the sun drying all the oils out of it, and burning it even more isn't the solution. Get some compound and buff it out, for a permanent fix that looks 150% better than a heat gun ever could. Or some magic erasers and trim restorer. Love your other videos tho bud

    Steve, great videos. I’ve got a 96 sea doo spx that was given to me for a gel coat restoration on a 22ft well craft I did. Normally I would have passed but after seeing your video, I decided to spare her from the junkyard. I’ll try to figure out a way to send you pictures or video.

    I have a 2013 GTI, I'm wondering if this technique will work on newer models? Also does it matter what part of the body is faded or can you do it anywhere on the ski?

      Should work on most plastics. I even used the heat gun to bring back color on a Power Wheels toy car and a plastic kids' bucket swing.

    Hi Steve I just got a 1995 wave raider and my plastic has brownish gray coloring on my purple plastic , I cant seem to clean it any suggestions before I take a heat gun to it??

      You may be able to get rid of the spots by removing a few mm of the plastic using xylol. It’s a solvent used for rubber pool paint. Very corrosive but it’s the only thing that I have found that works on the handlebar cover. Don’t think I’ve tried it on the hood plastics but it does an amazing job on the rear grab handle too.

      Like a champ! You can also use it to restore those faded plastic toys the kids leave out in the yard all summer.

    GOT A PAIR OF 12' SEADOO GTI'S CAN I USE THIS HEAT GUN ON IT???

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  5 лет назад

      First of all, yes it should work fine. The heat gun is also good for those big plastic toys that kids leave outside all the time. Just monitor the surface temp so you get the plastic hot without melting it. Second, thanks for your service to the USCG Auxiliary. You folks help keep us safe on the water and many people don't know about all the volunteer hours that go into boating safety.
