You are a decorator not a hoarder! You need your tools! It always is easy to just drop things in that kind of space, there’s always a time to tidy! Having beautiful things available to decorate events is a gift and a blessing! Don’t convince yourself (or let others) it’s bad! I have a very similar closet, enjoy it! 🎉 Good job tidying it up!

YOU ARE NOT A HOARDER!! I know it feels overwhelming sometimes, but if you love to decorate and you enjoy changing things for the seasons, you have extra stuff. Most people have an entire storage locker where they pay good money to store all of their junk. You are a fairly large family and if that is all you are storing, you are doing great!! I live in a historical home that is less than 1000 sq. feet and editing is a constant job. I try to employ a one in one out policy and that helps a lot. Then you are editing all the time. but only a little bit. Give yourself grace, you are doing a great job. Go back upstairs and love on that baby, you did a great job!!
NEVER,NEVER be embarrassed for what life brings you. You, family and home are so beautiful. I know you and hubby are grateful people and thank God regularly. P.S. you are NOT a hoarder--you are a collector--big difference. Love you and feel well with son.
Andrea, thank you for keeping it real. We all have places like that in our homes. It's nice to know that you are normal and just like the rest of us. Your home is beautiful and it's okay to have a storage room to keep stuff. And it doesn't have to be perfect. I like what one RUclipsr, I think it was the secret slob, said. Progress not perfection. Andrea, we all have places in our home that are not Pinterest worthy and if someone says they don't....(whisper, don't believe them) 🤣🤣🤣🤣Basement's are a blessing, I am sure so many, (including me) wish we had one. Growing up in Michigan I understand. I now live in SC and miss that space so much!! I hope your sweet baby feels better soon and you as well. Keep sharing all that you do. Love you!!
Not a hoarder!! I have a huge walk up attic and it sometimes gets out of control and needs a good cleaning. But a quote from an old John Wayne/Maureen O'Hara movie. "A woman needs her things about her" has always resonated with me. I have so many family pieces I could never part with they connect me to those I loved.
Don't be embarrassed! That's real life. At least you have everything in one spot. I have stuff scattered in almost every room and would love to have a room like you have.
Your more organized than you think. It looks very nice. I too have a storage room like yours so nothing fancy but functional. It works!!
Ok….thank you so much for this video!!!! Please don’t apologize for the way in which you store your things…OR for what you keep and don’t keep. There is a season for everything! I am presently a non teaching Art Teacher….but also an artist. My brain is always thinking of ways in which I want to be creative….and many of the items I save have a place in that creative process. I am also in ministry….and I help to decorate our church at times.
I am always using things from my stash to add to what I do there! (And in my own home!). I will take apart an arrangement to create a new one.
There is a time I like to “touch” (or lay my hands on) everything I have in storage in order to purge OR to remember what I have!
That helps me.
Having too much of some things can also weigh down creativity…so I understand that also!

Thank you for sharing this video. Definitely not a hoarder!! Those houses are pest infested and ALL areas of the home are overflowing with random stuff. Your home is beautiful and just like an artist’s studio, there are dirty paint brushes, paint covered tarp and areas of “mess or stain.”
You have a great HUB to go and create or trim down or add to in that great storage room. It’s a source for creativity and momentum. It re-centers your decorating flow and focus and like a good spring cleaning, we all need it. A time to evaluate, detoxify and create anew.
Your videos are great and I am in the same process of shedding as well. It feels great and I hope to do a swap party in the future with friends and neighbors. Fixing up someone else’s old decor to fit yours is a fun process and that process usually starts out messy. My process of cleaning out has been more fun and cathartic than before and currently I have my storage in multiplied closets. It IS fun going through the pieces and seeing how I’ve enjoyed them OR still love them.

It did my heart so much good to see your messy decor storage. I organize my own decor at least once a year and then in midst of a busy life, and one season changing into the next, I often just dump things and shut the door! It's really hard to keep on top of it and I'm glad to see that you struggle with that too.

Andrea, I too, store wreaths like that, but put a bag over top, so that the dust doesn't settle onto foliage.

I have things put away and cannot remember where or what! You at least can find your stuff. I keep saying I am going to go thru everything and organize but life keeps getting in the way ;) But that is what life it. You are doing great!!
My wife and I are interior designers and I know how you feel, our house looked wayy crazier then yours. You'ref not a hoarder by any means. Not sure if they are available where you live but to organize our stuff we use a service call Flex Storage. They offer a monthly service portable storage service. They bring out our stuff when we need it and then haul it away when we're done. It's seriously a game changer.

Andrea. How awesome to have the place for your tools of your trade😉. I remember watching an episode of Fixer Upper and Chip showed were Joanna keeps her seasonal and extra decor. It was so unorganized and she was so embarrassed but that’s life😃
Yep, as soon as you get rid of it you’ll need it.
I use our buffet drawers to store gift bags, tissue paper, ribbon, etc.
Right there with you on the florals lol. We use mine at church for events as well

I'm a thrifter too, and it is fun, but the downfall is that we wind up collecting too many things! when I find furniture and stuff that i like, but don't need, i remind myself how i hate a cluttered home, and that helps me walk away and focus on something i don't have. so far it's working for me, Lol. But do keep your florals that you think you might use again. And what are those gorgeous copper pitchers? doing hiding down there? Display those beauties!!! I have a solution for you. Have you ever thought of using Space bags(there are other brands too) to store clothes and linens? With these bags, you could store all of the baby clothes in 1 bin! You could still have them sorted by size. I have some that I’ve been using for 28 years!
Finally, don’t keep stuff for “just in case”. If you don’t use it in a year, you might as well purge it. You are clever and will find a beautiful solution for those just in case circumstances. If there are things you would only use for your church functions, perhaps you could store them at your church.

What a great storage room! You have lots of great things to decorate with and you seem to have it well organized. I kept thinking, "Dang, I wish I still had a basement so I could do that!" But then I realized that my garage is a very cluttered group of shelves. Sigh. I live in Texas, and we have no basements. You've inspired me to work on my garage. Thanks.

Dawn from the minimal mom talks about having things, too many things to manage and not having the time or the mental emotional capacity to do it. I think that's what you were saying when you just didn't have the time to go through that one bin of florals right now. So it's good to put it off until you have more energy and bandwidth to do it. I love watching Dawn but I'm not a minimalist like she is but I've learned a lot of good things from her. But I enjoy watching you and others like you that love to decorate their home. So I try to find a balance between the two. I think you do a good job of that. Your home is not overcrowded with stuff upstairs. It's just lovely, just the right amount. So don't worry if you have a storage room with some extra things in it. Next spring just go through and get rid of some more things and lighten your load a little bit. But you are not a hoarder! Several comments have said this, you are a decorator. And you do a lovely job and you inspire us to make our homes beautiful. Thanks.
I wish I was one of your sisters! 😅 That area looks better than my junk drawer ever did. There hasn't been one time after finally getting rid of something, that I could have used it within the next 6 months. Murphy's Law. I feel so good when things are organized, but somehow they seem to be less organized than how I remember storing them. Kind of like Toy Story 😊

Awe...it's adorable that you think your "stash" is out of control. I have an entire wall of shelving in our garage that is approx 3 ft deep..color coded and organized but FULL. The other side of the garage has wall to wall bins for every holiday. That should make you feel better 😬👍🏻

Andrea!!! Real life!!!! I have the same basic shelves that Justin built for me and I have gotten so bad with them and the decor that they hold the past few months since bringing our sweet girl home!! Hahaha Justin went down there a couple months ago and suggested I organize it. That’s how bad it has gotten!!!! Hahaha

I would love to have a basement for storage. Florida unfortunately doesn’t have them. I have things in my bedroom closet, under my kids beds and a few things that can survive the heat in the garage. I need to be productive and organize. Thanks for the inspo.

Andrea, I've been following you for a few years now and I am always impressed with how very sweet you are and how your priorities and values are the best. I've come to realize that you enjoy accumulating "stuff." You are young and if you keep this up, it will overtake your house. I know you love to thrift and that you get items at an excellent price. However, if you don't have a use for something it just adds to the "stuff." The same goes for bargain furniture and fake greenery. You have to discipline yourself not to buy something just because it is pretty and the price is good. If you haven't a place to put it, if you don't need it...then don't buy it. I say this with love and concern. I am trying to downsize and move out of my family home, but my "stuff" is hindering the process. Please be restrained and refrain from buying what you really don't need.

Your area doesn’t look that bad. I went to Walmart one year after Christmas. They were tossing out large divided boxes from wrapping paper… I have 6 filled with florals and greens. Three with wrapping papers. Two flat boxes from a florist filled with ribbons. Six storage containers with Christmas greens and small trees…..and the list goes on. I have one storage cupboard for napkins, paper plates and party supplies. One cupboard for fall, Halloween & Thanksgiving… one for Christmas dishes, serving pieces etc. My linens, including placemats, tablecloths, throw pillows and t towels etc. are all color coordinated. And then there’s my candles obsession! My adult children made me take pictures for insurance purposes. We now refer to the basement as the store! Mind you I’m much older than you and had years to acquire all these goodies, and we once owned a gift shop for several years too. So keep it small because to some degree it can become a burden! 😅. Believe me Andrea, I’m not bragging, I just thought you should know… it can be toooo much.

Don't feel embarrased. It's normal to have a place to store what you are not using currently. I know that it is more fun to go to a shop and buy new decor than going to the basement and try to find what you already have. I believe that if everything is accessible is easier to use it again. My suggestion is to get rid of everything you haven't use in a year. That's what I do and it helps a lot. By the way my name is Carolina and I'm from Spain. Take your time.

If your paint cans are more than half full Habitat Restore will take them...if not, put kitty litter inside them and leave them out in the sun (no rain) let them dry out and then you can dispose of them in the trash 🙂

Oh Andrea…if you want to feel better about your storage space , I could send photos of my STORAGE ROOMS ! LOL!!! I have our youngest daughter who SHOPS my rooms and now our oldest granddaughter who is getting married , shops my rooms!
I’m like you with florals. Because of Church, I keep a lot of florals from 2 weddings, bridal showers, baby showers…. NOW with our granddaughters wedding coming up…I’m hosting a big bridal shower and I have also bought wreaths for the wedding table centerpieces to help them…so I have 25 eucalyptus Wreaths on industrial pipes attached to the wall in our guest bedroom ( which has NO BED… nor does it resemble a bedroom…😂) it looks like Jayne’s Gift Shop ! And I have NO SHAME over it either ! LOL!!!!
When we decorate, we decorate! Florals take up space and that is what looks messy! Thank goodness for bins ! I want shelves like you have. My husband was support to do that for me…but life happens …he is 73 still working full time. Does it matter…not really . But I do love when our daughter and granddaughter see it and I say ask and I’ll let you know if you can take it ! ❤️❤️
