No shame in “telling it like it is” in business. If you saved one person from losing their shirt then it was worth it. It’s easy to think it’s all one big laugh going to work with your mates every day, but that’s the tip of the iceberg. We don’t see the years of slog to get to where you are now and the frantic paddling beneath the surface trying to stay afloat.
I subscribe to literally hundreds of RUclips channels (I’m not kidding). From ones I’ve watched, it seems like 65-75% of views are from non-subscribers. You are not alone. I’m sure the “collab” with Mat Armstrong will provide a significant bump to your subs.
Personally, I subscribe to almost every new channel I encounter, as I know what it means for their viability going forward.
Even though I don’t have any of the cars you specialise in, I look forward to hearing your updates and racing tales. Keep plugging away!

Thanks for the sub. That’s really great, it means a lot to the people doing these channels and really helps.

Hi Ricky, this is proof RUclips works and has a global reach, as you know I have a broken R8 in New Zealand, start looking at R8 videos, come accross your channel, next thing I know I'm buying $21k NZD worth of parts off you to rebuild the engine. Great marketing tool! Keep up the great work.

To be honest your channel is probably my favorite for rhe fact you "keep it real"( for lack of a better sentence).
Between the genuineness of yourself, the comradery you have with your workers and people around you, we can see why you do have such a successful business. Dont fall i to the clickbait garbage.
Keep up the great work, would love to see more of the techy stuff and possibly see you guys do a build and take it out afterwards
    A driving/testing video perhaps

Thought the reply to the "how did you start, would you recommend it?" question was superb.
Shows your passion, knowledge and pride. That alone would have enticed me to bring my pride and joy to you for work. Shame that's an 09 plate vivaro, but you get my drift.
Also, odd that your first thought to a metaphor, was being pegged. Each to their own though, its a modern time we live in.
And yes, I smashed the buttons, am subscribed, and tell as many people as I can about your channel.

Great insight into a top end garage....I'm 56 and done this all my life, my dad was a mechanic my grandad was a mechanic, I've had my hands in oil since I was 8yrs old. Ive ran my own place for 30yrs,You said 2 things in this vlog that really hit home and confirmed my thoughts. One was everyone wants to speak to YOU...and the other was reputation. And that's paramount for me! People say to me you need another mechanic, well I've seen hundreds of so called mechanics that need to sell there tools and go drive for Tesco....your putting your reputation in theses peoples hands and some of them shouldn't be allowed near a spanner 😢😂

Unfortunately I can only Subscribe once! I'm currently based in China, my family and home are in the UK, where my old toolbox and everything purchased second hand over the years are fully used when I get back twice to three time a year for a couple of weeks. Your content keeps me going from what I can't wait to get home to do myself. Really great point on being the worst mechanic with the best tools and the best mechanic with the worst tools. Been there over the years having people fix my cars. What I have learned, especially on my old machinery, 1968 Porsche 912, 1971 De Tomaso Pantera, 1981 Kawasaki KX250, 1978 Huskavarna 250 plus many other machines filling the barn,, is that there is massive reward in doing the repairs and fixes myself, time allowing. Audi R8 V10 is on my bucket list. Will call you when I'm home and ready for one. I also have an early 2002 TT Quattro and a 2007 A6/S6 2.7TDI Quattro - Sleeper on the Lincolnshire back roads when wet chasing down Subaru's !!!. Like having a shiny toolbox, having a great car does not mean you can drive it. Having an old Quattro at the limit brings some surprises, hunting down Subaru's coming back from Cadwell is like "sport" !!! Keep up the content, its well past my capability. Really enjoy following your projects.

Loved the business comments. My wife runs her own business with 24 employees - I work for a "big business". I am in awe of her ability to pay the wage bill every month and know the money will be there... She also works 18 hours a day to make sure it is so - but my secure employment certainly helps when we apply for a mortgage...

Gidday Ricky, maybe an answer to the "no go on 4" a blockage in the header pipe from that cylinder. Also the RS6 wagon smoking prob.Try running it without the air filter and see if there is a difference. If the car has an improvement and breathing is increased the filter may be dragging the chain.Needs more air at certain moments and finds it in the breather system.Your an honest dude, know your topic and ya ride a bike.Should be PM.Thanks Michael

Do you have a Pico scope with a pressure transducer? I would scope the compression and overlay the spark and injector trigger. Make sure it is firing everything at the correct time. Should give you an idea of any valve issues too.

  • @DebSidera
    @DebSidera 10 месяцев назад +1

You are right. It does come with huge risks and we can’t charge for all the hours we put in. It is not my intention to scare anyone… but this is the reality. plus, as some of the parts became unavailable or are discontinued, we have to figure the things out to either rebuild or fabricate. We want to look good to the customer + we don’t want things to break… so it is hard to find a good average for how much we charge and how much is “research”.
Often, right after you commit with a project and take it apart, customer starts to ask for additional stuff… it is hard to say no. So if you want to open your own shop just do it, but don’t do it for the money.

A question for you Q+A. Whats your car history? What was your first car and what are some highlights and lows of the cars you have owned. I know this hard to answer as a mechanic as so many cars you own which you never drive

One question for consideration: Gen 1 Aventadors (early 2011 and 2012 cars) have a reputation for having gearbox issues. Is this bad reputation justified or is the problem easily rectified by skilled technicians such as those at REPerformance UK?

Kate, hi… Could you ask nicely if a rebuild on a 4.4 SDV8 Range Rover engine would appeal? My daughter borrowed mummy’s Range Rover to drive to Cornwall for her wedding and the engine now has a loud tick and when rev’d gently sounds like it’s picking up on a bearing! So it needs going through from top to bottom if of interest? Maybe good for the channel??? Best videos for me are engine builds. That RS3 iirc was excellent, the level of depth, etc. The lambo gt3 engine was great too. I know I am nobody but I just don't click on clickbaits anymore, just don't want to add to the benefit of that crap.

This is a strange problem you have with number four cylinder not firing constantly. From my own experience I had a similar misfire problem but not constant after my own investigation after plug changes and and coil pack changes found out I had a high carbon build up on the inlet valves on my R8 V8 . After I did the carbon clean Manually and sorted out a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold. No more misfires. After Found out on RUclips the FSI engine with the plenum flaps closed the intake flow to the valves is half including the divider plate in the intake port . The idea of this design in the intake is to create a turbulent air flow in the the cylinder with the intake valve open , this helps the fuel and air mix together when the fuel is injected in cylinder at the right time . With the carbon build on the valves this interrupts this process and you get a misfire . But if the misfire you have is constant on number four possibly it’s not that . This sounds like a silly idea to check , I would check the battery and Alternator voltage and amps . I had a job a couple of years ago we’re the engine would start and run ok but for some reason the electrics operation was all over the place was working then not . Still no joy after going through the wiring diagram and checking all the earth leads etc etc . After some more investigation and frustration found out it was the Alternator was playing up . The amps and voltage was just a tad low . Alternator changed all good . Ricky with your experience you most definitely checked that and the car most probably would have thrown up a fault code in that department. Would be very interesting found what the fault was , most probably something silly . Good luck with your fault finding .

I sold my business because cars are great, it is the owners that give me the ****s. When an owner is told something they do not want to hear all reason goes out the window.
I would be looking for spark going to earth, perhaps between the coil and the plug also new plugs aren't always good, DAMHIKT.

Hi Ricky. I'm a big fan of your work. I have a question:
During your R8 V8 buyers guide video, you mentioned to check the pull catches on a regular basis so that you can open the frunk if the battery dies.
Is it not possible to bump start the car (dumping the clutch while being pushed) if the battery dies or would that damage the front diff?

I've subscribed! There you go :) On a more serious note, I've got an S8 V10 engine that I'm looking to fit to a project but I'll be fitting R8 gen one headers with no cats etc. It'll need tuning to get the most out of it. Is that something that I could come to you for?
