Karl’s message of unbridled Xmas joy had me tearing up at such an outpouring of raw unfettered emotion that hit me in the guts like a week old oyster that has been left in the sun before being consumed. A brutal watch that would even traumatise Chuck Norris.
The front suspension is pretty interesting on these. If you want to nerd a little, you can look up "compliance pivot". It's basically Honda's attempt to create rough road tolerance without compromising on spring rate in the days before mag ride etc. When you hit, say, a pot hole, that arm will pivot on it's internal bushings allowing the wheel/tire a little give to soften the blow. The reason you add that clamp is, as you can imagine, those same forces happen under hard braking on a track with modern, sticky tires and it can create weird dynamic alignment changes. So pot holes = worse, but turn-in = better.

Simulators will never be as good as real racing but they have come along way over the years and there’s a reason why many racing drivers and teams have big simulator setups, they do help improve your racing

I’m pretty handy behind the wheel and have been sim racing for a while. Spent about £12k and counting on my rig so it’s pretty decent and fully customisable (not motion though). No it isn’t like driving a real car however the tracks are laser scanned, very accurate and the car physics can be very realistic.
Ash Sutton (BTCC champ) runs Pure Sims. They build simulators. Maybe hit them up and could get a colab with him aswell

raced karts for 8 or so years and done plenty of trackdays, racing sims are miles on from bike sims
direct drive wheels now give such good feedback, you can get pedals with realistic clutch biting points, all sorts of stuff to immerse you. definitely worth it!

Karl should get an hours sim-play for every rs6 engine he has to pull out.

On the simulator question, while I agree that a full rig would be the best thing ever, even playing PS4 taught me some of the tracks I got to do on track days on the bike. It did make me more scared of the Ring though!

Ref Sims you need yaw to make it feel even slightly realistic, leaning and shaking is just for show. Note though if the yaw is slightly out of synch you feel really sick.🤢(I’ve been in the McLaren sim 😉) muggle ones are useful to learn tracks but a different skill set to be fast as it’s all visual cues.

I like your ethics, buy the best rather than buy cheap I am approaching 65 ( I have golf mk 3 16 v 80k miles chipped eibach and bilstein and a mk 1 TT standardq looking at Audi TTS or RS before my reflexes go is TTRS reliable
To touch on the first question answered - is there a reason you don't measure clearances by using a micrometer on a crank journal, then taking a bore gauge, zeroing it out there and then measuring the clearance in the housing with the bearing in place? Are you concerned about scratching a bearing with the bore gauge?

Hi, interesting discussion on the Dyno Cell, not done much with cars, but plenty bikes on the dyno. i have noticed that the fans are always single speed in the dyno’s. would it be beneficial at all to have the air speed produced proportional to the wheel speed? i guess you may run out of air above a certain speed, or does the ECU / tune adjust appropriately for the change in volume in the real world?
The subaru is a Type R. These came in wrx and wrx sti models plus the uk P1. All were 3 door

Following on from the dyno talk, what are the differences/benefits of the 2 roller v single roller dyno?
Also, my bike mechanic has a dyno & he thought about building an engine-powered fan because the electric ones don't produce the correct airflow for forced induction, does this have a similar effect on cars or is that to a lesser extent?
