    Put tape on his mouth next time, Patty! hee hee. This is a beautiful camper trailer! Wow, I love it - the best floor plan I have ever seen. I love the front bedroom with plenty of room to walk around each side of the bed - no crawling over each other. Your kitchen is well appointed - with marvelous sink and faucet and oven, too! The dining area is so spacious and comfortable-looking. And the bathroom is to die for - no split bath on each side of a hallway like so many others. Your shower is lovely - love the walls. I looked at one expensive trailer with an 8" bathroom sink!! Your sink is so large you stated you can wash your hair in it. They certainly did not skimp on either kitchen sink or bathroom sink - both nice and spacious. I hope you will be enjoying your new trailer for many happy adventures to come. Bless both of you. Thanks for showing us.

    Just came across this video. I didn’t realize you said bye-bye to your TAB 400. I must say, this is a huge difference from the 400! Now you have me thinking again. 🤔 I just might have to check these out now.

    Thanks for a great tour. You touched on many features that sold us on our 2020 1985. The build quality is outstanding. The quality of our previous trailers was as if they were professionally home made, always needing repair on the fly or a "project" after returning home. It's so nice to actually relax and enjoy the trailer with just routine maintenance. I had to laugh about the TP roll location in the bathroom. As soon as we started using the trailer, the wife and I said right away, 'that has got to go'. We moved it to a more convenient location. Sitting on the 'throne', it's now located on the left wall, below the forward drawer, and clear of the pocket door in the open position. Works like a charm. Happy travels to the four of you.

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  4 года назад

      @@TravelswithDelaney I just lightly burnished them flush with the smooth handle of a putty knife. You have to look closely to see any remnant of the holes. You can always put a small dab of like-colored wood putty as part of the burnishing. Enjoy!

    Very, very nice! As you noted, you can damage the door or awning if you don't close the door before extending or retracting the awning. I bent the top lip of the door with the awning on my 1575. It had been in storage all winter and when I opened the trailer up in the spring, I had forgotten about the procedure. Ouch! Afterwards, I made a warning sign and taped it to the console next to the awning control button. Sure you will love the Lance.

    Have a nearly identical 2020.5 1985 equipped almost the same with the Roadster interior and jackknife bed. Alas, after the second camping trip the slide failed and our Lance dealer said it was the fourth 2020 they had with this problem. They have to replace the entire “H” slide mechanism because of a faulty installation at the Lance factory. We are told we will be without the trailer for at least 8 weeks. Hope this does not happen to you. Check on your bathroom wall where the door slides across that you have no sharp screws poking through that could scratch the back of the door when it slides open. That was also another issue we noticed. Great video and I trust you will have many great camping outings in your new Lance!

  • @garyuhland8509
    @garyuhland8509 Год назад +2

    We took delivery of our new Lance 1985 in early Spring 2018, so going on 5 years now. Prior to that, we owned a Lance 1685. Ours has most all of the factory upgrades, including convertible sofa, solar, 3” raised chassis for off-roading, power stabilizers, slide-out bin in the front storage area, and more. Here are our observations:
    Pros
    • A big advantage: To cut costs, most RV builders place their different length boxes on the same length chassis. This results in a less-than-optimal balance over the axles. Lance builds their frames to match the box size. Consequently, the axles are at the optimum location beneath the box, balance is enhanced, and it tows like a trailer weighing much less.
    • Fit and finish is excellent. Little touches like edge molding and the light fixtures are simply a cut above the competition. Quality components.
    • For a 23’ trailer, it’s very spacious, tons of internal and external storage.
    • Huge slide-out, comfortable, plush cushions, seats 4 adults easily. Never any mechanical problems.
    • Solid roof, 40-45 gallon tanks, 4-season capable.
    • Convertible sofa. It’s actually very comfy. We use it all the time.
    • Dual axles - rides smoothly and tracks straight. Quality tires.
    • Excellent solar charging system. We replaced the dual factory 12-volt batteries with dual 6-volt batteries. The batteries have never run down past 2/3 full, even over multiple cloudy days and overnight in cold weather.
    • Walk-around bed. The crawl-over bed in our previous Lance 1685 proved to be a pain and was one of the drivers that motivated us to step up to the Lance 1985.
    • Audio and TV/DVD system work fine. 6 speakers total.
    • Our 2018 Ram 1500 has no trouble whatsoever towing the 1985. A ½ ton will pull this trailer no problem provided you have the correct axle gear ratio. Our previous 2007 Ram 1500 did not and it struggled.
    • Initial price is high, but resale value is outstanding. We sold our Lance 1685 for more than we paid for it.
    Cons
    • As a rule, we’ve found that the things that malfunction are typically sourced components like the Dometic appliances, not the Lance trailer itself.
    • A/C is loud. You’ll either need shore power, a generator larger than 2000 watts, or install an EasyStart soft starter. A 2000-watt generator may or may not have enough juice on start-up. We once had a pair of Generac 2000-watt generators paired in parallel (3200 watts on startup). We attempted to run both the A/C and the microwave at the same time. It fried the circuit boards on both generators. This is an issue with any trailer. Watch your wattage demands vs. supply.
    • Slide-out external screws come loose. Others have noted this issue. Had to replace with larger screws.
    • Changed the basic shower head to a better-quality head. Saves water, increases pressure.
    • Lance customer service is just OK. However, the Lance Owners Association (LOA) is a fantastic resource for tips, advice, etc.
    • The inside diameter of the rear bumper is too small to accommodate the sewage hoses. Don’t know why Lance couldn’t use a slightly larger bumper (literally, just a 1/2" larger) so that you can store the hoses inside the bumper, on the outside the trailer instead of having to put them in a sealed container in the rear outside storage compartment.
    • Biggest complaint: The awning is rarely usable for two reasons. 1) It uses scissor arms to extend and retract. Sounds great on paper - no clotheslining as you walk around outside. However, if even a light-moderate breeze comes up, the awning starts to flap and risks torquing the arms and breaking them. The automatic retraction feature that senses potentially damaging winds is nice, but it retracts whenever there's the slightest breeze. There is no provision for attaching guy lines or poles to help stabilize. 2) The awning will hit the door if left open. If you try to extend or retract the awning while the door is open, you will surely damage the door, the awning, or both - significantly. In our view, this is a major design flaw. If we leave the auto-retract feature on, we can’t leave the door open. If we want the door open, we have to turn off the auto-retract feature, thus risking awning breakage if a gust hits.
    Despite the cons, all in all, we love our Lance 1985 and would buy again.

    • @marckruse2181
      @marckruse2181 3 года назад

      @@molson62 hi Marty, there is not a single RV manufacturer that balances their tires. They are all at fault. The RV industry as a whole needs government rules and regulations for quality and more importantly for safety. What is currently in place needs urgent updating. Lance at least puts best ìn class tires and suspension on all their trailers.

    More windows to open, the better. Electronic jack- pretty cool. Vented pull out tray batteries are convenient. A cable attached to frame? Great idea. Windows that don’t open I think are a missed opportunity. Lots a lot of little extras. They seemed to think of a lot. What does the “certified green” sticker mean? We love our RV lock. I wish our basement had a tray. I’ve heard some issues about wind sensor. Going in and out too much. But I wish our awning was a one push instead of holding the button the whole time. Nightstand drawers would be awesome. I’m not ready for a curtain instead of a walk for the bedroom. Larry is an early riser. That convertible bed is kind of interesting. Why does any RV put the TV in a corner? Again, all RV cabinets should have adjustable shelves. That cabinet above the stove is what I’d like everywhere. Built in strike is nice. Looks like a nice rig for long trips. Eventually we will want to downsize maybe to this size. But just starting full time, I need a bit more time in our size rig. Our Grand Design has them off the floor too. That rig does have a lot of storage. Wow even in the bathroom. Pretty cool. Enjoy. Alice

    What a great trailer, so many amenities! It was so nice to meet you two, the puppies, and all the other peeps at the West Yellowstone Meet-up! We just got home last night from our 2 1/2 weeks on the road. Holy Moly were there ever a lot of people out there camping or WHAT?! We had a few anxious moments wondering if we were going to find somewhere to camp or not but we discovered that if we just ignored the ”Campground Full” signs, drove on in, and whined somewhat pathetically and politely to the host it all worked out! We discovered some great places; boondocked most of the way - yay solar!

      So glad to hear you made it home safe! We had planned to go to Ennis after we left West Yellowstone but couldn't find any place to camp there so we headed further north. We don't normally like making reservations when we travel but this has caused us to rethink that going forward.

    We have a 2018 1/2 Lance 1575. It has the exact same Air Conditioner that you have. We have two Honda EU 2000i generators with the parallel kit. Turns out just one Honda will run the Lance Air Conditioner without a soft start kit. These generators I converted to propane with the "Hutch Mountain Kit" and they still works fine. The good thing is you don't need to carry around smelly, dangerous gasoline. By not putting gasoline in our Honda it has an indefinite shelf life and it always ready. The power went out when I was in West Virginia last winter, there was two feet of snow on the ground the single Honda on propane worked fine. One Honda will not run everything at once but two Honda's will and we found that two Honda's in parallel are quieter than one because they just run in eco mode all the time.

    Thank you for the owner review of this trailer. I have been considering purchasing this Lance trailer; it has almost all of the features that I would like in a small trailer.
    However, it's very expensive at $38,---- compared to other trailers that size. In your comments, there were quite a few saying the manufacturer doesn't do good quality control and that there is frequent slide failure! That is is very off-putting!!. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on what I thought was a quality product and have these issues.
    Hoping yours is one of the good ones.

    There is an adjustment to the awning where you can change it's height. I adjusted mine so that it is high enough to clear the door when the door is latched open. Even at this height, it is sloped enough so that if it were to rain, the water would slide off. However I never use my awning in the rain.

    You may know this by now but, you can raise the awning. We've owned the 1985 and the 2375 and I raised the awning on both of them. The awning owners manual tells you how to do this. You will need someone to help hold the owning up while you adjust it.

    We bought brand new a 2018 Keystone Cougar that we ordered and had not one issue with it. This was the most perfect trailer. The only problem is that we traded it a few years later for a Keystone Impact toy hauler and had all kinds of issues with it.

    Obviously I don't have a Lance because I really love having a 5th Wheel. But I live in Lancaster, CA, where that and all the Lance campers are built. I have taken the factory tour and fell in love with the quality of the craftsmanship and quality of the materials. I'm positive you will find a few items that you might find didn't get done 100% perfect but overall I was very impressed with this factory and this particular model as well. If Lance ever made a 5th wheel I would definitely consider it. I know you are going to love it.
    Sorry I am so far behind on my viewing but I'm catching up as best I can.

    Oh wow - beautiful choice! I camp to be outside but sometimes it is to windy or cold to cook outdoors. You have the best of both options. That awning is WONDERFUL. As you know, the walk around bed is my favorite thing. I hope it makes you happy for a long time to come. Congratulations on a beautiful choice. Gotta tell ya, when you posted the (apparently) unplanned quick trip to Texas, I was frightened that your family had an emergency. How great to learn that it was good news instead. Nice tour and review. You’re right, 1985 reviews for current models are tough to find. Check out the Firman Whisper generators. Another channel I watch sometimes, KYD, uses one with their Airstream. I believe they have a propane option if that’s something you can use.

    Awesome walkthrough, guys!
    The more I look at the Lances, the more I like them. Lots of unique and clever outside storage features. Plenty of storage inside. I really like the all-in-one bath accross the back of that 1985. The 3 20-pound propane tank option is brilliant. I love the heated tanks.
    One question on the whole "4 seaons" capability as it appllies to the tanks (and this goes for any camper with enclosed heated tanks, not just the Lance): Since the heat comes from the furnace, what happens if you're camping in sub-freezing temps when you shut the furnace down and have to tow the camper home? Even if you drain the tanks - which is a challenge because most state parks shut down their dump stations during the off-season months (at least in Ohio) - you're still not winterized, and I'm sure it's possible for things to freeze on the drive home, right? Do you hope for the best and winterize when you get back? Do you winterize/de-winterize each time you want to go out in the cold months? I like the heated tank concept, just trying to figure out how it works practically speaking.

    We sold our 2019 2375 lance, used for a year 1/2. We sold it for 39,400 we financed 42,800 with TTT. We loved it. We’re looking into buying the 1985 or the 2075. Haven’t decided yet. I like the open floor plan if the 1985 and the spacious bathroom and love the 2075 set up too.

    • @Berrypancakes229
      @Berrypancakes229 4 года назад +1

      Gil Folsom Because I want more of an open floor plan like the 1985. The bathroom in the 1985 is more roomier. I found out with the 2375 I didn’t use all the storage inside. 1985 would be a better floor plan for me and hubby. We loved the 2375 it was very comfortable and enjoyable. Lance brand will always be our purchase.

    I started with a 3100/start 2800/run and it was marginal at best. I moved onto the champion 3400/3100 inverter it’s compact, light weight, and quiet !!! Should work good for you.
