thank you so much! I’m now ready for my exam tomorrow. You already helped me with the first paper and now I’m ready to smash the second! thank you again!!
this is so helpful!! i am so nervous i have my mock tomorrow, please may you do more of these where you walkthrough a specific paper it is so useful, thank youuu
Excellent question - if you really don’t know then stick to the word, they won’t discredit you for that because it’s the skill that matters. Beyond that select a few words and go with ‘the phrase’ or change it to embed it, for example ‘when the writer describes the character as ‘tall’’. All of these work 👍
For the 'How' and 'Evaluate' questions, Do I have to mention language/structural techniques used by the writer? eg., imagery, adjectives, long sentences etc.
Thank you so much. Because of this and a couple other videos from you I feel like I’ve done really well. I’m pretty sure it’s above a 6 which is what I was averaging in my mocks.
@@GuigLit Ahh omg!! thank you so so so muchhh ill be sure (if i remember) to let you know of my grade in august!! Wishing you the best and more for the future
thanks for this but i have a couple questions. for each 10 marker, how many paragraophs should i write and should i have any conclusions in any of them
Either one big one or two or three detailed ones so long as there’s roughly seven pieces of evidence/quotes. Sorry for the late reply I was abroad until late last night!
Absolutely, Q1 can be answered in a few simple words. My advice would be to make sure they’re sharp and specific, for example put ‘15,000 miles’ not just ‘15,000’ or the specific name of a place if asked, but that’s all you need. A simple few precise words will get you the mark 👍
Im not sure how to begin with the 10 marker questions like do i need to like how many quotes am i supposed to include and for the comparing question am i supposed to write two paragraphs of the similarities and differences of the two extract?
What about oxymoron and all of those techniques why i have never seen that on ur videos and i think all with this exam board is picking a quote and say something on that would get you a mark is that right?!
Put simply, techniques have their place and you would get marks for considering them but they aren’t nearly as important as range/coverage of quotes and getting to grips with the meaning itself. Feel free to use them but I strongly suggest treading carefully - they should cap off any point made and not be an end unto themselves
@pampoone623 I would suggest it needs to be slightly more sophisticated than that - the key term in the mark scheme for top band on such a Q is ‘detailed analysis’. I think of it like ‘hurdles’ - tie up a quote with analysis and repeat, little and often. Coverage is vitally important
Here are three for you, I don’t think you would need more: “The writer explains” “The writer suggests” “The writer intimates” (And one for luck!) “The writer reveals” A rotation of all of the above plus your one will be more than enough. Very best of luck!! 🤞
Hi! This is such a great video. I'm a bit confused though. In the slides where it says "carry on for more marks" does it mean that the model example wasn't a full 10 marks and I should just keep writing like that to reach those 10 marks. Or is that exemplar already 9-10 marks? Thankyou for this :)
Either one big one with 7 quotes or a few spaced out is fine. You’re not marked for paragraph breaks so whichever way you’re most comfortable! Sorry for the late reply I was abroad until late last night!
hii this is soo useful but for question 1.4 when it says if we think he makes it sound dramatic do we need any terminology like adjectives or verbs or nouns or are we just stating our opinion? my mocks are next week hope i do well :)
Hi Adrian thank you for your comment and question! Terminology is only essential if you’re absolutely sure of it, the exam board will still accept ‘the word’ or ‘the phrase’ instead. They just really want to see you engage with the language and textual choices. Best of luck!
Can you clarify, for Q2 you stated 8 points but on your sample answer there is 4 points. Also, what grade is this video aimed for, and what else can be done to aim higher?
Hi! My videos aim for the highest target grades but to explain it in a way that any student can understand. If there’s anything I’ve missed or you would like me to clarify then I’ll always reply to comments 😊

Ahhh best of luck! Sure thing, absolutely! If you have a specific English paper in mind I can get the resources together! Good luck again for today 😁
Thank you for all the help and information on this! Really useful and informative.
You’re welcome!
Thank you for this video, this is my life line before my English exam tomorrow 😂❤ This has really helped
You’re more than welcome 😁 Thank you so much for your support. I wish you all the very best of luck for tomorrow!
How many paragraphs do you need for the 10 markers
How else do you say “ the word… “
When you don’t know whether it’s an adjective verb or whatever
Excellent question - if you really don’t know then stick to the word, they won’t discredit you for that because it’s the skill that matters. Beyond that select a few words and go with ‘the phrase’ or change it to embed it, for example ‘when the writer describes the character as ‘tall’’. All of these work 👍
For the synthesise question, do you have to refer to the title of where you got each piece of information?
Either that or the author’s name in the first instance are ideal. They prefer you referring to these.
For the 'How' and 'Evaluate' questions, Do I have to mention language/structural techniques used by the writer? eg., imagery, adjectives, long sentences etc.
Yes, it’s highly recommended
Do you have any model answers for these?
Thank you so much. Because of this and a couple other videos from you I feel like I’ve done really well. I’m pretty sure it’s above a 6 which is what I was averaging in my mocks.
That’s so great to hear! I really hope you have. Absolute best of luck for results day 👍 please let me know how you get on!
For question 4, the evaluate question, can you write about ways it might not agree with the statement and talk about both sides of an argument?
Oh absolutely!
Thankkk you!! I have less than 3 hours to my exam and Im terrified. Very useful though, life saverrr
You’re so welcome! Thank you for your kind words. I hope it all goes brilliantly for you!

Either one big one or two or three detailed ones so long as there’s roughly seven pieces of evidence/quotes. Sorry for the late reply I was abroad until late last night!
For question 1, can it just be a couple of word answer or does it have to be in a sentence?
Absolutely, Q1 can be answered in a few simple words. My advice would be to make sure they’re sharp and specific, for example put ‘15,000 miles’ not just ‘15,000’ or the specific name of a place if asked, but that’s all you need. A simple few precise words will get you the mark 👍
Hi for component two there is a question where you don’t use quotes from the text to support your answer. Which question is that , Thank you
are you talking about question 5?
Only the writing tasks
In the last question, synthesis how many would you recommend to write (points quotes etc)
Approximately 6-7
For the 1) and 3) question do you need to quote??
(Also thanks for these videos, VERY useful 😃)
Not always - sometimes a quote can help but so long as the right information is selected you’ll be fine for Qs 1 and 3
Thanks!👍😃
My pleasure! Best of luck and thank you for your support!
Im not sure how to begin with the 10 marker questions like do i need to like how many quotes am i supposed to include and for the comparing question am i supposed to write two paragraphs of the similarities and differences of the two extract?
The trick is to use the key words from the question asked
And with the comparison questions just compare and don’t worry about the balance of similarities to differences
Thank u

@@GuigLit would you get full marks just by picking a range of quotes and put their meanings alongside them ?!
@pampoone623 hi! I think I replied to this in a separate comment? If I didn’t and I’m mistaken please let me know. Many thanks!

Hi there! Thank you so much for the kind words. That’s exactly it! Just keep following that method 😊
How many marks would you say the example at 14:40 is?
Sorry for the late reply I was abroad until late last night! It would achieve top level so 8 as a minimum out of ten
Is it better to do section B or section A first?
Section A in my opinion - easier marks to build up confidence but also requires more thinking before doing

What do you mean when you say embed the quotes in. sometimes i analyse too much.
So make it sound as though they are part of the sentence rather than ‘this is shown in the quote…’
do u have to add quotes for question 5?
Ideally, yes
