Honestly, I don’t blame them for going back to TNA, 90% of the time I see someone online talk about the promotion, it’s usually referred to as TNA and not Impact. I don’t think the rebranding to Impact ever really worked, because everyone still thought of them as TNA
Most of the TNA and boomer fans still say, "TNA" over Impact Wrestling. They could call still use Impact Zone or Impact World Title, but use old TNA title.

As a person who grew up with the tna impact name. Especially the 3 years from 06-09 was fantastic. The name has some nostalgia to it for people in their mid to late 20s and early 30s. When wwe was making Shelton have a momma and other stuff tna gave us the X division. Kurt angle and joe etc
Kurt was World Heavyweight champion on SmackDown when Mama Benjamin was around. And don't act like TNA didn't do sillier stuff. They did a full episode story arc where Kurt was walking around in a speedo backstage with Borash, threatening and assaulting random people because someone stole his clothes while tanning. 😅
2004 to 2009 TNA was fantastic to the point that I got a bunch of childhood memories watching it and never stopped calling it that so I see this as a win

My guess is that he really is a fan of old school wrestling. Not really what TNA got themselves over for, especially in their glory years, 2005-2009. Perhaps he just remember it for the intensely russo-esque presentation and storylines and really dislike it for that matter.

I’ve watched the acclaimed Daniels-Joe-AJ match since the name change announcement. Good shit, pal! They had a great roster in the 2000s. I’m glad a few of their homegrown talents were able to make careers in WWE and Japan
Never really followed it but TNA has a soft spot for me. I was at the very first show in Huntsville, AL in 2002. A week or so prior I got to meet Jeff Jarrett who was near my house promoting the event and got a picture with him. Nice guy.
Jeff is pretty cool. I kinda got to know him a little bit when he was wrestling in Memphis in the early 90s. Jeff, his tag partner Robert Fuller (Col.Rob Parker/Tennessee Lee), the Moondogs, and even Giant Gonzales would hang out after the matches and talk to fans for a while. I went as often as possible, and would talk to Jeff whenever I went. I got to know him well enough that he would recognize me and come say hi. He was a nice guy.

For some reason I skipped TNA during the Kross/Blanchard era, and barely paid attention during the EC3/Galloway/Drake era, but they have been so solid since 2020. What's amazing about their entire history is that there was never a point when their roster was thin or uninteresting. Also, TNA has definitely come into its own recently with them no longer needing to be flanked by ex-WWE guys anymore.

TNA is more well known than Impact as a brand. That's what it boils down to. I don't think it changes anything in the grand schemes of things, but this is a way for them to get more attention, good and bad.
Maybe it was because I was quite young(12 ish) when I started watching TNA, I loved it. 2006-2012 Kurt Angle was absolutely insane, and they had some real talents(styles, Kaz, Daniels, Skipper, Ron Killings, etc) and I was probably too young to care if it was "bad for business"
I liked TNA as a kid. It had a grit that WWE didn’t have at the time. It was a nice alternative. It had great tag teams like the Motor City Machine Guns, LAX, Dudley Bros, and Beer Money Inc in a time where WWE had hardly any legit tag teams. It’s women’s division shit all over WWE’s at the time. It had what is is still my favorite Kurt Angle run. AJ Styles was this new, amazing talent to behold. Scott Steiner and Booker T were funny as shit. I think it’s biggest downfall is that it couldn’t do long-term booking for shit. The roster was insanely stacked in that 2005-2009 era. It still feels like a much more legitimate alternative than AEW ever had been and with a fraction of the budget.

I liked the old TNA for the reason it was a alternative from wwe. Back in the day it was what AEW was promised to be. I think they are better than AEW is today. Controversial yes, but they have been better lately. I also like that they seem to willing to try different things, they don't always work. But it isn't bad for new things to happen if they stick.
Ya early to mid 2000s TNA was unique and original! New wrestlers, new fresh gimmicks, different ring, unique divisions. Everything about it was different than WWE and it was really exciting

I’m actually looking forward to this. I still refer to impact as TNA. There’s no Dixie Carter, there’s no Shitstain Russo… the logo/moments before the rebrand/Russo/Hogan still resonate with me. A lot of great talent got showcased back in TNA glory years.
Honestly they are going back to TNA because of the long time fans. For me I still think of it as TNA. However if Jeff would have given it a better name than Russos idea. This all could have been avoided.

@@victor.elkins I'm well aware Dixie and Russo were the biggest reason for TNA's decline during the early 2010's. But Jeff Jarrett was just as much of a problem long before Hogan came into the picture. Not as big of a problem as Hogan was, but had just as much of an ego.
Hopefully this version of TNA gets a proper shot at the big time, because more promotions thriving makes for a better experience for fans, makes for a better landscape for wrestlers. If I were running it, I'd be monitoring the contractual statuses of all the originals and influential names that contributed to the growth and success of TNA. TNA needs a solid mix of young indie talent, a good handful of veterans, and some recognizable, “mainstream” talent that can garner viewership and ticket sales.
They seem to have that now: Alexander, Bey, Trey Miguel, Ace Austin on young talent, Eric Young and MCMG on vets, Bully Ray, Tommy Dreamer, Trinity, Mickie James on recognizable talent. I hope they don't try to do too much too quickly, because they're at a good point now of packing small venues, and traveling around.
I know the original meaning behind the name is dumb, but “T&A” isn’t really a thing people say anymore. I like most people who grew up on TNA never associated it with that.
Unless you pick up the progressing Illustrated top 500 and you see Josh Alexander and deonna purrazzo and Masha slamovich who are all in the top 25 I find Jim cornette very funny and very engaging and I love it podcast but he is wrong on this
Nostalgia can be a powerful drug. I've heard for years that TNA consistently delivers a great show, but I haven't been motivated enough to check it out. Nevertheless, they'll need more than just some buzz to make a significant impact (no pun intended.) I hope TNA can establish key differentiators or competitive advantages compared to the fed or dub to engage viewers and fill in gaps that the big two may not be addressing.

TNA grabbed me with those knockouts👀 back in the day when i was flipping through channels when wwe aired them Main Event shows also saw kurt & booker t and was like what the!. To be honest i started back watching again shortly before Trinity signed with them its a few people there i like but anyways glad its back to TNA
One of the main reasons why they switched back has to do with their international audience and tv companies. Now as for the product as a whole, their shows have been good lately except that battle royal but the matches and talent has been improved but they still need a better tv deal
"T&A" isn't really a well known slang phrase outside of America, so globally the name TNA wasn't considered that bad or a joke, maybe why it worked better on a global scale.

Jeff Jarrett spoke on his podcast a few days back about how Anthem's change of the name in the first place was against his advice. He also mentioned that the change was only for North America and how most countries never experienced the change and it's always been TNA Wrestling and still are. They've been bringing back all the former talent over the last year or two; The Motor City Machineguns, Bully Ray (and in the case of recent appearances D-von as well), America's Most Wanted, Frankie Kazarian (and his wife Traci Brooks), Christopher Daniels, Eric Young (alongside Scott D'Amore and A-1 of Team Canada), Little Guido, Nick Aldis (immediately prior to his WWE debut) and a bunch of others. Ace Steel id now working in the back and Punk (was most likely visiting Ace Steele, Mickey James and others) has been visiting there lately but no one knows what his situation is at the moment.

I disagree with Brian about TNA never being the innovator. Both the X Division and The Knockouts division preceded anything that the WWE tried to do that was similar by a decade(NXT and making women's wrestling the focus for a good portion of the show)
We are in the era of nostalgia, so makes sense why they would go back to TNA. People are looking backwards to things they found enjoyable, endearing or comforting due to how bad everything modern is becoming. Wrestling is a microcosm of that, that so many fans are burnt by today’s product they yearn for yesteryear
Impact was always TNA for me, however, the name TNA does have negative connotations to those who don’t know what it is or ever watched it. I am hoping that they will succeed with this hurdle. Impact and especially Scott D'amore have been doing extremely well the past two years. They have the best women's Division in north America. A super fun Tag and X-divsion, And a maint event scene thats constantly has something fun going on. It's a shame some people still have "opinions" on something they saw 5-6 years ago and project that on the current product instead of doing some research.
It won't bring in a 2nd golden era for the brand as some people from the company have suggested, but it's the most logical move this company has made in 6 years. I never got why they changed it to begin with. Who cares what "TNA" alludes to, who came up with it or what their motives were. It's what this company was known as and the name with which it reached the heights it did in 2008-2011. Rebranding it as "Impact Wrestling" hardly won them over any new fans.
When TNA began, they were affiliated with NWA and had their belts. The powers that be at TNA should call up Billy Corgan and get back together. At least with NWA, you have the oldest name brand in pro wrestling.

One of the few occasions I completely disagree with Jim and Brian. And it's so good to see the people in the comment section doing the same, almost unanimously. For me it was Total Nonstop Action since 2006 when I first saw it. This year was the first time when I heard the "tits n ass" mockery, in one of russo's promos from the early days of the company. It was replayed on a youtube show that does reviews of old NWA-TNA episodes, but besides that, I never knew it was a thing and never before saw a comment or a clip talking about it. And I watch a lot of stuff related to old TNA...
If they could get back to the roots of what TNA was supposed to be and was from 02-09, they could truly be a breath of fresh air in modern wrestling. I watch classic wrestling 95% of the time because the business has become a shell of its former self.

Although I don't care for TNA, I give them props for remaining active since 2002. Despite many changes in the brand, creative team, wrestling roster, etc.; they're still in business with a strong fan base. Despite any hatred and claims TNA would go out of business in its early days, they're still achieving modest success today. Unless going back to TNA will cause them to lose their fan base, partnerships with network(s) or sponsors, I believe they'll exist beyond my lifetime.
This is one segment where Jim and Brian are in the wrong. They truly haven't understood the level of shitless nostalgia we have for the tna that have us Aj Joe, angle, christian, the x division, a roster which was undoubtedly the greatest roster of men and women a company had up to that time. I wish these two would just watch even one episode of IMPACT or a pay per view of theirs from the last couple years and I guarantee that they'd be pleasantly surprised at how well they've recovered and apart from the extremely wacky stuff they still tend to do from time to time, they'd really enjoy it more than they do most weeks for AEW, they've genuinely got some incredible talent over there right now and judging by how amazing Hard to Kill was, I think it's only gonna get better from here now that TNA has essentially been reborn and everyone's justifiably excited for it. How Scott D'Amore carries himself shows how Tony Khan needs to take notes from them on what he should be doing and how he should be acting as president and booker, I love his drive and passion for wrestling as a whole but he needs to solely focus on his product, leave the internet marks alone and let people who know how the business works take the creative reins or at least be smartened up by those people so he can make better decisions. AEW may be number 2 in overall size but TNA has definitely shown they aren't to be slept on anymore and easily could've still been in that spot by far had it not been for how horrid the Bischoff/Hogan era and even the Global Force merge era was, so the name change makes perfect sense because many people think of the glory years they had as TNA when that name comes up even after they rebranded to Impact Wrestling.

it's about going back to the 05-09 TNA... I think that vignette was made in bad faith... TNA has been more consistent than any other promotion in the past two years (after the murdrr mystery era)... It's about acknowledging that post 05-09 was bad... and that they're going to their roots. I can guarantee it will be better than anything AEW puts together eight now.
As a man who's been keeping track and watching damn near every week for the last 2 years. I do think that Impact/TNA Wrestling has been hot as of late. It's certainly more popular and over for me than AEW ever will be. Fun fact: When Christian beat Kenny Omega for the Impact World Title, that's what got me into Impact in the tirst place. Then, after Cody left and all the backstage shit with Punk and Andrade and insert superstar name here, i checked out of AEW. So thank you Tony Khan for letting Kenny Omega be the "Belt Collector" if not for that, i would have still been hearing the people shit on Impact instead of watching it and loving it lo these two years later

I don't think people are nostalgic for old crumpy I think we're nostalgic for like 2004-2007/2008 TNA. TNA fans are what ECW fans were in mid 2000's.
Yeah, when people think of TNA, they're looking back on the 2004-2009 years (though I remember 2002-2003 having a lot of good in it too). I can't blame them for wanting to pretend the Hogan years never happened.
True, I loved TNA. They were my gateway to weekly wrestling. I never had Sky Sports as a kid but I did have the wrestling channel on freeview sky, then Bravo.

Late 2005 to late 2006 TNA was excellent. It kind of fell off a cliff afterwards which is a shame because they got a more well rounded roster after.

As a person who grew up with the tna impact name. Especially the 3 years from 06-09 was fantastic. The name has some nostalgia to it for people in their mid to late 20s and early 30s. When wwe was making Shelton have a momma and other stuff tna gave us the X division. Kurt angle and joe etc

My guess is that he really is a fan of old school wrestling. Not really what TNA got themselves over for, especially in their glory years, 2005-2009.

Jeff Jarrett said that nobody outside of the US even calls them Impact Wrestling, even business related people would still refer to them as TNA, so maybe they're just tired of pretending they aren't and getting backlash for it.

Never really followed it but TNA has a soft spot for me. I was at the very first show in Huntsville, AL in 2002. A week or so prior I got to meet Jeff Jarrett who was near my house promoting the event and got a picture with him. Nice guy.
Jeff is pretty cool. I kinda got to know him a little bit when he was wrestling in Memphis in the early 90s. Jeff, his tag partner Robert Fuller (Col.Rob Parker/Tennessee Lee), the Moondogs, and even Giant Gonzales would hang out after the matches and talk to fans for a while. I went as often as possible, and would talk to Jeff whenever I went. I got to know him well enough that he would recognize me and come say hi. He was a nice guy.
I grew up watching TNA as a kid, I knew TNA as a wrestling company way before I knew about it being a dirty word.
As someone who watched TNA around 06-09 I'm nostalgic for the name TNA.
I have bigger faith in TNA's return than AEW's on-going struggles

For some reason I skipped TNA during the Kross/Blanchard era, and barely paid attention during the EC3/Galloway/Drake era, but they have been so solid since 2020. What's amazing about their entire history is that there was never a point when their roster was thin or uninteresting. Also, TNA has definitely come into its own recently with them no longer needing to be flanked by ex-WWE guys anymore.

TNA is more well known than Impact as a brand. That's what it boils down to. I don't think it changes anything in the grand schemes of things, but this is a way for them to get more attention, good and bad.
Maybe it was because I was quite young(12 ish) when I started watching TNA, I loved it. 2006-2012 Kurt Angle was absolutely insane, and they had some real talents(styles, Kaz, Daniels, Skipper, Ron Killings, etc) and I was probably too young to care if it was "bad for business"
I liked TNA as a kid. It had a grit that WWE didn’t have at the time. It was a nice alternative. It had great tag teams like the Motor City Machine Guns, LAX, Dudley Bros, and Beer Money Inc in a time where WWE had hardly any legit tag teams. It’s women’s division shit all over WWE’s at the time. It had what is is still my favorite Kurt Angle run. AJ Styles was this new, amazing talent to behold. Scott Steiner and Booker T were funny as shit. I think it’s biggest downfall is that it couldn’t do long-term booking for shit. The roster was insanely stacked in that 2005-2009 era. It still feels like a much more legitimate alternative than AEW ever had been and with a fraction of the budget.

I liked the old TNA for the reason it was a alternative from wwe. Back in the day it was what AEW was promised to be. I think they are better than AEW is today. Controversial yes, but they have been better lately. I also like that they seem to willing to try different things, they don't always work. But it isn't bad for new things to happen if they stick.
Ya early to mid 2000s TNA was unique and original! New wrestlers, new fresh gimmicks, different ring, unique divisions. Everything about it was different than WWE and it was really exciting

@@josereyes1148 No, some years earlier. But in my country we only got mid 90's WWF broadcast and just some months of WCW. On 00's I got access to NOAH and NJPW as well, and WWE was broadcasted again along with TNA.

I’m actually looking forward to this. I still refer to impact as TNA. There’s no Dixie Carter, there’s no Shitstain Russo… the logo/moments before the rebrand/Russo/Hogan still resonate with me. A lot of great talent got showcased back in TNA glory years.
Honestly they are going back to TNA because of the long time fans. For me I still think of it as TNA. However if Jeff would have given it a better name than Russos idea. This all could have been avoided.

But Jeff Jarrett was just as much of a problem long before Hogan came into the picture.
Not as big of a problem as Hogan was, but had just as much of an ego.
I know he loves Jeff but people acting like Jeff wasn't a major contributor to the many dysfunctions of the original TNA are delusional.
Hopefully this version of TNA gets a proper shot at the big time, because more promotions thriving makes for a better experience for fans, makes for a better landscape for wrestlers.
If I were running it, I'd be monitoring the contractual statuses of all the originals and influential names that contributed to the growth and success of TNA. TNA needs a solid mix of young indie talent, a good handful of veterans, and some recognizable, “mainstream” talent that can garner viewership and ticket sales.
They seem to have that now: Alexander, Bey, Trey Miguel, Ace Austin on young talent, Eric Young and MCMG on vets, Bully Ray, Tommy Dreamer, Trinity, Mickie James on recognizable talent.
I hope they don't try to do too much too quickly, because they're at a good point now of packing small venues, and traveling around.
I know the original meaning behind the name is dumb, but “T&A” isn’t really a thing people say anymore. I like most people who grew up on TNA never associated it with that.

Nostalgia can be a powerful drug.
I've heard for years that TNA consistently delivers a great show, but I haven't been motivated enough to check it out. Nevertheless, they'll need more than just some buzz to make a significant impact (no pun intended.)
I hope TNA can establish key differentiators or competitive advantages compared to the fed or dub to engage viewers and fill in gaps that the big two may not be addressing.

@TheFailedmessiah 05-09 pre 05 was definitely facing growing pains and despite cornette's feeling for the guy, nobody liked Jeff Jarrett's shoe horning his midcarder ass in the mainevent.
Jarret was more entertaining than 90% of TNA's roster. They had too many jobbers wrestling as mid carders.
They've already done all of that, which is why they've been trending up the last few years. They're doing their part now fans can decide if they want to watch or not. Funny how people will complain about WWE or AEW but keep watching but wont even try with Impact. Their loss.

One of the main reasons why they switched back has to do with their international audience and tv companies. Now as for the product as a whole, their shows have been good lately except that battle royal but the matches and talent has been improved but they still need a better tv deal
"T&A" isn't really a well known slang phrase outside of America, so globally the name TNA wasn't considered that bad or a joke, maybe why it worked better on a global scale.
Put TNA on Wednesday nights and have WWE help them destroy AEW by lending them talent.

Jeff Jarrett spoke on his podcast a few days back about how Anthem's change of the name in the first place was against his advice. He also mentioned that the change was only for North America and how most countries never experienced the change and it's always been TNA Wrestling and still are. They've been bringing back all the former talent over the last year or two; The Motor City Machineguns, Bully Ray (and in the case of recent appearances D-von as well), America's Most Wanted, Frankie Kazarian (and his wife Traci Brooks), Christopher Daniels, Eric Young (alongside Scott D'Amore and A-1 of Team Canada), Little Guido, Nick Aldis (immediately prior to his WWE debut) and a bunch of others. Ace Steel id now working in the back and Punk (was most likely visiting Ace Steele, Mickey James and others) has been visiting there lately but no one knows what his situation is at the moment.

I disagree with Brian about TNA never being the innovator. Both the X Division and The Knockouts division preceded anything that the WWE tried to do that was similar by a decade(NXT and making women's wrestling the focus for a good portion of the show)

We are in the era of nostalgia, so makes sense why they would go back to TNA. People are looking backwards to things they found enjoyable, endearing or comforting due to how bad everything modern is becoming. Wrestling is a microcosm of that, that so many fans are burnt by today’s product they yearn for yesteryear
Impact was always TNA for me, however, the name TNA does have negative connotations to those who don’t know what it is or ever watched it. I am hoping that they will succeed with this hurdle. That being said, this would be a great opportunity for them to compete with AEW as the second U.S. based wrestling organization. Let’s see what happens.

For the first time I don’t agree with this podcast, what TNA did 20 years ago is what Wwe and AEW is doing today, x division style wrestling, AEW old stage with tunnels, aj styles, Samoa Joe and other things. Given how forums have been more positive with Cena coming back now than they were in the past, it seems to hold true the nostalgia value is doing them favors.
Impact and especially Scott D'amore have been doing extremely well the past two years. They have the best women's Division in north America. A super fun Tag and X-divsion, And a maint event scene thats constantly has something fun going on.
It's a shame some people still have "opinions" on something they saw 5-6 years ago and project that on the current product instead of doing some research.
It won't bring in a 2nd golden era for the brand as some people from the company have suggested, but it's the most logical move this company has made in 6 years. I never got why they changed it to begin with.
Who cares what "TNA" alludes to, who came up with it or what their motives were. It's what this company was known as and the name with which it reached the heights it did in 2008-2011. Rebranding it as "Impact Wrestling" hardly won them over any new fans.
And bringing TNA back probably won't win any new fans either.

Anyone hating on impact or tna is just a negative loser. I been watching impact on and off for 20 years. But very religiously since 2019. Between that and nwa, and uwn, i have had all thr pro wrestling fix, without any nonsense wwe or aew. Believe me, im not missing anything. I just got home from nwa samhain and it was one of the loudest, funnest even ive had in yrs and yrs.

For me it was Total Nonstop Action since 2006 when I first saw it. This year was the first time when I heard the "tits n ass" mockery, in one of russo's promos from the early days of the company. It was replayed on a youtube show that does reviews of old NWA-TNA episodes, but besides that, I never knew it was a thing and never before saw a comment or a clip talking about it. And I watch a lot of stuff related to old TNA...

Although I don't care for TNA, I give them props for remaining active since 2002. Despite many changes in the brand, creative team, wrestling roster, etc.; they're still in business with a strong fan base. Despite any hatred and claims TNA would go out of business in its early days, they're still achieving modest success today. Unless going back to TNA will cause them to lose their fan base, partnerships with network(s) or sponsors, I believe they'll exist beyond my lifetime.
This is one segment where Jim and Brian are in the wrong. They truly haven't understood the level of shitless nostalgia we have for the tna that have us Aj Joe, angle, christian, the x division, a roster which was undoubtedly the greatest roster of men and women a company had up to that time. I wish these two would just watch even one episode of IMPACT or a pay per view of theirs from the last couple years and I guarantee that they'd be pleasantly surprised at how well they've recovered and apart from the extremely wacky stuff they still tend to do from time to time, they'd really enjoy it more than they do most weeks for AEW, they've genuinely got some incredible talent over there right now and judging by how amazing Hard to Kill was, I think it's only gonna get better from here now that TNA has essentially been reborn and everyone's justifiably excited for it. How Scott D'Amore carries himself shows how Tony Khan needs to take notes from them on what he should be doing and how he should be acting as president and booker, I love his drive and passion for wrestling as a whole but he needs to solely focus on his product, leave the internet marks alone and let people who know how the business works take the creative reins or at least be smartened up by those people so he can make better decisions. AEW may be number 2 in overall size but TNA has definitely shown they aren't to be slept on anymore and easily could've still been in that spot by far had it not been for how horrid the Bischoff/Hogan era and even the Global Force merge era was, so the name change makes perfect sense because many people think of the glory years they had as TNA when that name comes up even after they rebranded to Impact Wrestling.

TNA from 06-09 is some of my favorite times in wrestling, especially when WWE was having their worst year in 09. Jim can miss me with his hatred of TNA.

TNA has been more consistent than any other promotion in the past two years (after the murdrr mystery era)...
It's about acknowledging that post 05-09 was bad... and that they're going to their roots.
I can guarantee it will be better than anything AEW puts together eight now.
As a man who's been keeping track and watching damn near every week for the last 2 years.
I do think that Impact/TNA Wrestling has been hot as of late.
It's certainly more popular and over for me than AEW ever will be.
Fun fact:
When Christian beat Kenny Omega for the Impact World Title, that's what got me into Impact in the tirst place.
Then, after Cody left and all the backstage shit with Punk and Andrade and insert superstar name here, i checked out of AEW.
So thank you Tony Khan for letting Kenny Omega be the "Belt Collector" if not for that, i would have still been hearing the people shit on Impact instead of watching it and loving it lo these two years later
