    I am going to be in Winnipeg, Canada, this summer, probably in June. It looks like there are a number of potential riverbank "spots" in the near vicinity. Since I'll have limited time, no experience fishing for walleye*, no specific gear*, and am fishing for table fare**, I am thinking my best bet is probably locally purchased nightcrawlers or minnows. I DO have some weighted jigs (hook plus weight only) both painted and plain lead.
    Will there be good numbers of walleye in the rivers at that time & location?
    Any further pointers?
    *No walleye in my home area (too far south.)
    **I'm not worried too much about deep hook sets as I am fishing for table fare.
    Thanks!

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  8 месяцев назад

      There is some excellent walleye fishing around Winnipeg. Basically every tributary or river that flows into Lake Winnipeg will have a walleye population. There will be some fish in the rivers in June. On small rivers, focus on any spot below a dam, lock or rapid. The Assissiboine River is excellent. I would check in with the bait shops.

  • @jamesfriedrichs2777
    @jamesfriedrichs2777 3 года назад +1

    Cool video, I did get a laugh though. You don't need expensive boats or electronics, but seeing as most of the river is on private land you do need to be a land owner!

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  3 года назад

      You do need permission on private property but there are many property owners to ask. Just like getting permission to hunt, be respectful. There are also some great public locations especially below some of the dams and you can also canoe or kayak.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Assume many of these fish come out of Ashtabula but there has to be some fish that live in the river all year especially when the river was high. Might be different this summer as low as the water is.

    Does jig fishing work in muddy water? My local lake Upper Lake Mary, Flagstaff, AZ, is very rocky & has a permanent visibility of about 1ft-to-chocolate milk... walleye & northern pike, primarily. They say there's some trout, crappie & a few bass in there too, but I've never caught any. So far, I have caught all my fish(pics on my channel community page!) on crankbaits, minnow lures & spinnerbaits. Caught a walleye about as long as my arm 2 days ago on a spinnerbait in about 4ft of water. I grew up bass fishing in Oklahoma, so walleye & pike are a new thing for me. I am trying to learn all I can.
