You know Cannibal Holocaust is brutal when even the director was under investigation from the police because the deaths look so realistic they thought he documented actual murders
The Exorcist is a masterpiece. A lot of films rely too much on gore and brutality where as shock value, and where films are believable as fiction, leave a long lasting impression on the viewer.

I agree with the list. Also I will say Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the number one in my personal list. Yesterday I watched again next to Evil Dead and the Exorcist. But it was the Texas massacre the one which left me totally disturbed and amazed.
Salo is easily one of the most disturbing films ever made, but I think it is absolutely a piece of art. It's beautifully made despite how horrifying it is. Doubt I'll ever watch it again, but I don't regret watching it.
What's interesting is that despite how gross the film is, the actors admitted they never had issues on set. Several of the victims found the film funny due to the filming schedule making it hard to figure out besides going with the lines.

Dead Alive is banned? Then I'm grateful I still have my VHS copy. Hilarious film, almost as funny as the Feebles, but not as disturbing as Heavenly Creatures. Jackson is an amazing director. Lovely Bones and Forgotten Silver are my personal favorites, though the first three Lord of the Rings movies are good fun.
I had to laugh my ass off for Germany's reasoning for banning "Saw 3-D": "movies cannot portray inhuman acts of violence against human or humanoid beings." hahahhahahhhaha Sorry, Germany, but you can never live it down.
Hellraiser and The Evil Dead never got a cinema release in Ireland. Dead Alive was given a cinema release in Ireland but only as part of a horror film festival. The Exorcist could only been seen in cinemas up until the late 1990s
I know this isn't a banned one but my grandpa let me watch the children of the corn when i was 8 because he thought it was "a nice movie a bout vegtables". We also watched the rocky horror picture show a year later so idk haha
Maybe I'm just used to the Exorcist, but I don't understand why more places would ban a movie with someone being possessed than one where they literally r@pe a newborn.
At the time its religious aspects made it more sensational. People get VERY pi$$y when someone appears to badmouth their god... As for _"A Serbian Film"_ I covered my eyes with both hands when that scene came up as I didn't want that memory in my head... I kind of regret watching the movie at all.
Evil dead is now rated FSK16 in Germany some years ago. And even Starship Troopers got rerated with FSK16. Today the FSK is better than earlier but sometimes their decisions seems diced if that makes sense 😅
Problem is that most people are too stupid to understand their rational … its not blood and gore that is the driving factor, but the socio-pedagogic as well as psychological level.
Anna Elisabeth "Anneliese" Michel (21 September 1952 - 1 July 1976) was a German woman who underwent 67 Catholic exorcism rites during the year before her death. She died of malnutrition, for which her parents and priest were convicted of negligent homicide Poor child suffered due to her parents superstitious nature. And finally she died
Right.. whenever I see these list about banned horror films and dont see those and OTHERS on the list I'm like... OH YOU TALKING ABOUT THE TAMER BANNED HORROR MOVIES ...theres a whole other subgenre of horror that's completely wild and depraved

Im from Germany. You could easy make a list of 20 banned Horror Movies in Germany 😂 Especially the old Splatter and Zombie Movies are banned in their Uncut Versions
@@GanymedeXD That’s the point. All the old movies that were banned and than years later checked again, are now uncut and free to watch. Thing is you have to pay to get them checked. And no one invests in an old movie.
I remember seeing those video nasties during the 80’s, my friend got hold of the banned videos… I felt like such a rebel watching these banned films…! 😂😂😂😂
Classic cult movie, but it's harsh... once you've seen it you understand why it's banned in certain countries. In my opinion, for it's time, very progressive and edgy. And if you know the complete title... you know what you are getting into so don't expect a fairytale.
it might be a subtle difference, but Dead Alive isn't known as Braindead outside North America. The movie is actually called Braindead, but it was released in North America as Dead Alive, to avoid confusion with another movie called Brain Dead.
What surprises me the most is that Australia and New Zealand have banned so many horror movies yet nobody here has mentioned Wolf Creek and its sequels as being utterly horrific. Mick Taylor is far more terrifying than any American horror character.
Ngl the Maniac remake is actually pretty damn good! I give Elijah Wood props for tackling the role. Never in a million years would I have thought he’d nail a role like that one!
I've watched a Serbian film and it didnt move me a hair except for the baby and I don't remember if there was a little girl too. But the rest is not a disturbing film at all.
'A Serbian Film' is so disturbing, I didn't want to even admit I'd seen it to anyone. When asked what it was about, I was like....damn.... I can't even describe what this movie is about, there are scenes that even to this day I can't describe out loud, because it would mean admitting I'd actually watched them. I worry that people will think I'm demented, or worse, for watching it. THAT is how 'wrong' A Serbian Film truly is. And, I'm a pretty hard core horror buff. It takes a lot to disturb me, and I mean, a LOT. Usually if a film involves harm to animals, that's where I'll draw a line, because I just can't take that.... A Serbian Film doesn't harm any animals.... it does worse. And what makes it even more horrible, is it does it very, very well. The ultimate message of the film is that there is a market for the things depicted in the film, out there in the world. That there is a part of our society that WANTS to see such things, and is willing to pay to see them. The film brings attention to these atrocities, and the people that keep such 'business' IN business. And, ultimately, that such business needs to be stopped.
I've been avidly watching "disturbing" movies for the last 15 years, I've seen most of the "big bads" that people say are the worst of the worst and honestly nothing prepared for me for The Poughkeepsie Tapes... I see people all the time say they didn't find it that scary or disturbing? It makes no sense to me... that film traumatised me for MONTHS. We surely can't have watched the same film...
True horror & disturbing movies A Serbian film The green inferno The human centipede 2 Salo & Saw &. The hostel Wrong turn &. Lights off The hills have eyes Paranormal activity
Saw all volumes of Faces of Death. In fact, i prepared a dinner of spaghetti and meat sauce for my buds before playing the VHS rental. We used to go see cheap ass movies on Tuesday nigbts. We went to see I Spot on Your Grave and it was revolting but the movie became the gold standard for thr "rape and revenge" movies likr Ms. 45 and subsequent I Spit on Your Grave remakes.
Number 1 wasn’t a surprise. My mom told me that was the only movie they ever carded her for. And they almost didn’t let her in because she had just turned 17…but since she was with my dad they let it go…(my dad is 2 years older)
Something thing I did find comforting about the Saw 3-D execution scene was that even though some held out their phones and probably enjoyed seeing it, many of the onlookers were straight out terrified and probably concerned for her (even one of the two men looked genuinely upset about going through with it). Generally, in other forms of fictitious works, it seems the majority of citizens are thrilled about whatever may be happening, whether it be to a child, an adult, a male, a female, a human, an animal, whatever.
Black Sunday is a creepy atmospheric movie with an evil witch and her vampire servant/ lover exacting revenge against a family. One of my favorites but most won't watch this black and white gem.

I agree with the list. Also I will say Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the number one in my personal list. Yesterday I watched again next to Evil Dead and the Exorcist. But it was the Texas massacre the one which left me totally disturbed and amazed.
Thank you for the new movie bucket list.
Salo is easily one of the most disturbing films ever made, but I think it is absolutely a piece of art. It's beautifully made despite how horrifying it is. Doubt I'll ever watch it again, but I don't regret watching it.
The atmosphere of Salo is enough to disturb. I won't be watching it again either.
It really is a well shot and provocative film. I watch it once a year.
Where ti watch?
Most useless nonsense trash worst movie ever full waste of time
The Exorcist is the best scary movie ever and Linda Blare is the best actress ever
jsut overrated actually
I love Linda wally😋
Freaks directed by Tod Browning is actual a masterpiece....who also directed Dracula starring Bela Lugosi
Salo was also it's director's last film, as he was murdered shortly before it's release.
What's interesting is that despite how gross the film is, the actors admitted they never had issues on set. Several of the victims found the film funny due to the filming schedule making it hard to figure out besides going with the lines.
@@BeyondBaito Huh, interesting.
Also, ngl, I forgot about this comment. Lol
Mothers Day? Not the kind of movie you want to watch with your mom. But I bet Mrs. Vorhees and Jason would watch it
Freaks is a GREAT flick!
There's a lot of both good and bad history connected to this movie. Worth watching and researching
My statements relate to the Germany versions:

Right!? The audacity 😂
There are so many movies made today that should be on this list! August Underground, Carcinoma, The House that Jack Built!!
Most are actually not banned.
as for Hostel, the creepiest is that you know darn well that kinda stuff happens.
Hellraiser and The Evil Dead never got a cinema release in Ireland. Dead Alive was given a cinema release in Ireland but only as part of a horror film festival.
The Exorcist could only been seen in cinemas up until the late 1990s
A festival screening is no ‘release’ as only one or limited screening if the festival features several cities.
Great video, but my favorite part is the narrator's pronunciation of the non-English names... Spot on!
So is this countdown random? Because from what I have read about "A Serbian Film" would definitely make it the most disturbing on this list...
I've seen it and I 100 agree with you. It is VERY disturbing 👍
Most disturbing does not mean banned!
I have The Exorcist playing on my phone sometimes while I prep dinner😆 it's not scary but still a masterpiece of a horror film
It’s probably it’s bc there’s an edited version where that part is heavily implied
I agree. I don't see the big fuss made about the exorcist. It is a good film but I don't think it was bad enough to get banned.
At the time its religious aspects made it more sensational. People get VERY pi$$y when someone appears to badmouth their god...
As for _"A Serbian Film"_ I covered my eyes with both hands when that scene came up as I didn't want that memory in my head... I kind of regret watching the movie at all.
"The Exorcist" is a Disney film, compared to "Salo".
We love to see more videos like this. Keep up the good work.
Singapore, for the record, has banned SOOOO many films, with a few exceptions... including South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
I will be watching as many of these as I can this Halloween season.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes is on Pluto TV
Dead alive is my number one favorite. After that, Evil dead. The rest are pretty good too 😁👍
2:36 THATS FUCKING CHESTER
0:53 freaks is my favorite movie.
Anna Elisabeth "Anneliese" Michel (21 September 1952 - 1 July 1976) was a German woman who underwent 67 Catholic exorcism rites during the year before her death. She died of malnutrition, for which her parents and priest were convicted of negligent homicide
Poor child suffered due to her parents superstitious nature. And finally she died
Actually the last house on the left has to do with a newspaper article Wes had read about the incident, and just turned the true facts into a film.
I got brain washed with many of these horror's movies back then when i was a kid by my elder cousins. But now going 30, I'm still enjoying it. Gosh 😅
The fact that you have Texas Chainsaw and Exorcist over
Salo
A Serbian film
I spit on your grave
Faces of Death
And others is chrimial lol
Right.. whenever I see these list about banned horror films and dont see those and OTHERS on the list I'm like... OH YOU TALKING ABOUT THE TAMER BANNED HORROR MOVIES ...theres a whole other subgenre of horror that's completely wild and depraved
It's a list of banned films, not any kind of order lol
For its time the Exorcist was very disturbing. As a 10-11 year old watching it, i was messed up for a very long time.
Was that Chester Bennington in Saw 3d?
yeah
Yup
I have seen lots of these movies! There are so many of them!
I have watched Saw 3D, Cannibal Holocaust, Hostel 2, and Texas Chainsaw massacre when I was in elementary through DVD...As a kid that was really scary, I don't really remember all the scene of those movies coz I just watched them once and as I have said I watched it when I was a kid...anyway I'm from Philippines...we used to watch horror movies on DVD player back then, we had a lot of compact disc before, but now it was all gone
Dead Alive is a masterpiece
Im from Germany. You could easy make a list of 20 banned Horror Movies in Germany 😂 Especially the old Splatter and Zombie Movies are banned in their Uncut Versions
Its still more than 100 movies … but mainly as nobody wants to pay to get them freed!
LMAO the baby on number 19💀
Silent Night, Deadly Night was also banned in late 1984.
I think all of them are banned from everywhere across the entire world
I hate when they ban moview anywhere, don' t like it, don' t watch it!
I was surprised to discover some movies on this list which I don't have.
Cannibal Holocaust- Going to court over animal cruelty and Redrum you KNOW you did it right
The infant rape scene in A Serbian Film is simply so disturbing!
What do you guys know about Salo? The creator got assassinated in Italy (where the movie was made. It's an Italian horror film)
Classic cult movie, but it's harsh... once you've seen it you understand why it's banned in certain countries. In my opinion, for it's time, very progressive and edgy. And if you know the complete title... you know what you are getting into so don't expect a fairytale.
Good clip ! ... 😊👍
it might be a subtle difference, but Dead Alive isn't known as Braindead outside North America. The movie is actually called Braindead, but it was released in North America as Dead Alive, to avoid confusion with another movie called Brain Dead.
Very true,it confused me as I’ve got the vhs of it and it’s called brain dead x
What surprises me the most is that Australia and New Zealand have banned so many horror movies yet nobody here has mentioned Wolf Creek and its sequels as being utterly horrific. Mick Taylor is far more terrifying than any American horror character.
Ngl the Maniac remake is actually pretty damn good! I give Elijah Wood props for tackling the role. Never in a million years would I have thought he’d nail a role like that one!
I've watched a Serbian film and it didnt move me a hair except for the baby and I don't remember if there was a little girl too. But the rest is not a disturbing film at all.
I will never watch hostel two or green inferno ever again not because it’s gory but because the innocent/likable people die the worst deaths
One of the better 80's horror films is one called "The Curse". "The Crazies" is one of my favorites as well.
Evil dead was first video I ever rented 1981
Really why would they ban some of these horror movies
She does explain
True horror & disturbing movies
A Serbian film
The green inferno
The human centipede 2
Salo & Saw &. The hostel
Wrong turn &. Lights off
The hills have eyes
Paranormal activity
Saw all volumes of Faces of Death. In fact, i prepared a dinner of spaghetti and meat sauce for my buds before playing the VHS rental.
We used to go see cheap ass movies on Tuesday nigbts. We went to see I Spot on Your Grave and it was revolting but the movie became the gold standard for thr "rape and revenge" movies likr Ms. 45 and subsequent I Spit on Your Grave remakes.
all the Hostels are great too! super disturbing. and scary
16:39 Vox is going crazy in the new season of Hazbin.
WHAIT DO YOU ATE BEACAUSE YOURE VOICE IS AMAZING 😍🤩
Number 1 wasn’t a surprise. My mom told me that was the only movie they ever carded her for. And they almost didn’t let her in because she had just turned 17…but since she was with my dad they let it go…(my dad is 2 years older)
Germany had an issue against human torture and death in films??? I hope they don't look into their nations history.
It is exactly this history that created that law.
When Watchmojo talks about banned movies, you better expect 3 movies on the list
Salo
A Serbian Film
Cannibal Holocaust
Something thing I did find comforting about the Saw 3-D execution scene was that even though some held out their phones and probably enjoyed seeing it, many of the onlookers were straight out terrified and probably concerned for her (even one of the two men looked genuinely upset about going through with it). Generally, in other forms of fictitious works, it seems the majority of citizens are thrilled about whatever may be happening, whether it be to a child, an adult, a male, a female, a human, an animal, whatever.
alice sweet alice sure scared the hell out of me..the gore scenes were so well done for the time
Black Sunday is a creepy atmospheric movie with an evil witch and her vampire servant/ lover exacting revenge against a family. One of my favorites but most won't watch this black and white gem.
That scene in hostel 2 with the bath tub is gut wrenching
