Only way they could do it is if they have some kind of other product to advertise such as Mission Winnow (Phillip Morris/Ferrari) or A Better Tomorrow (BAT/McLaren). All that said, the Genii Lotus ran in the black/gold colour scheme as a throwback to the JPS era, and the rumour back in 1998 was the reason Tom Walkinshaw ran the Arrows in an all black livery was to try and entice JPS back to F1 as a sponsor, but it obviously didn't work as why would JPS wanna sponsor a team that was at the back of the grid most of the time and usually finished races at the side of the road.

I think the Force India Racing x BAPE pink camo livery for part of the 1000th F1 race (Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai) definitely isn't "weird" per se, but it's one of my favorites. The clash of two completely different worlds on that car works really well IMO, especially considering Force India/Racing Point's main color is pink and pink camo is one of BAPE's signature designs. One of my favorite new-school liveries for sure.

Well, in NASCAR, enough crowd-funding support was gathered online that one of the teams donned a Doge livery for a while. And in F1, there was one race where UPS tried to do the same thing for their logo as Red Bull did for their entire car. Amusingly, one of the 'faces' that ended up on the UPS logo was none other than the glorious Dickbutt meme.

I think a steering wheel with small diamonds around parts of it would've been a better idea for jaguar. Approval from insurance and a way better piece for publicity. Like a pimped out steering wheel would've been way cooler and probably cheaper than those 2 diamonds
Sauber had a one-off livery in the 1994 Canadian GP commemorating Andre de Cesaris's 200th F1 start. Just last season, Mercedes ran the Lauda tribute livery at Monaco. One of the earlier U..S. GPs at COTA (2013 maybe?), McLaren ran their usual livery but with Verizon Wireless branding, not Vodafone.
I'm not convinced that the real diamonds were mounted on the cars for the race, doesn't seem like something the stewards would allow because of the high likelihood of them getting loose during the race and either hitting a driver, spectator, marshal or car. Clever bit of marketing with the whole "disappearance" after the crash but it either was all smoke and mirrors to begin with or an extremely ambitious insurance scam.
