  • Daehansaram and Hendrikje Lange are performing a piece based on the traditional shaman ritual of the south coast, Namhaean Pyeolshingut. It is a Korean shamanic ritual for the dead.
What we perform is a remake by Daehansaram.
It is the moment when, after many hours of ritual, the soul of the deceased is finally sent away to the other world. The long white cloth or scarf symbolizes the path for the soul to the other world. It has knots in it which represent unsolved issues: desires, unspoken words, unfinished work, unsolved problems, but also grieve and love which tie the deceased"s soul to the world of the living. To make the way free and help the soul travel to the other world, these knots are symbolically untied.
We performed this exceptionally beautiful music and dance for a close friend of mine who passed away very sudden while traveling, some weeks prior to the planned performance.
August 19.2018, Hendrikje Lange 50 birthday and Korea homecoming party. Forsthaus Kirschner, Allschwil near Basel, Switzerland
