Snell golf balls are great! I play every day and I'm able to play a Snell for 3 or 4 rounds because they are so durable. In the long run I save money over cheaper balls. I'm a 6 handicap and love the performance.
After watching the video I moved by golf balls from the garage into the house - I wasn't aware heat would be an issue. Thanks for the info!

Good information Dean! I have been playing golf since I was 13 and I am currently a 1.9 hndcp, I recently played one of your MTB's that I found out of bounds at a local course here in north county San Diego. I liked the performance of it very much, I felt like it performed very much like the Pro V. I have been playing the TM TP5 for the last year and I like the distance off the tee, it truly is 10 to 15 yards longer on my solid drives. Having said that, I like the performance of the Pro V better from 100 yards in and I felt like the MTB I played was very similar to the Pro V so, good job! Once I heard you were involved in the design and development of the TM TP Red, I started to listen to you as that was the best golf ball I have ever played. I was so disappointed when TM discontinued that ball. I always told myself, "if I could ever find a ball that performed like that ball, I would use it exclusively." The TP5 is close but, now that I know you were involved with the design of the TP Red, I will order your golf balls and let you know how it goes... Thank you for putting this content out there! JM

Didn’t know much about Snell or golf balls in general but like many other low hcap sheeples I have pretty much played ProV1 and sometimes Prov1X for many years. I ho clubs so often having one constant is kinda necessary but once I finish tinkering with sticks....balls will definitely be next.
Thank you Dean and MGS for an excellent insight into the ball industry. I would buy a ball from this guy for sure and I promise you Snell will be on my list.

Tour level golf balls from other companies are getting more commoditized as their performance is very similar if not the same as the Pro V1 like generic drugs vs. name brand. As a result, more and more golfers will buy one for the best value for their dollar. Snell's balls fit the bill.

I'll answer that question for Dean... Titleist ads say "The number one ball in golf", its because they pay the most tour players to play Titleist golf balls. Just like Taylormade's ad says "The number 1 driver on tour", its because they pay the most tour players to play the taylormade driver. I was a caddie on the PGA Tour in the mid-2000's and very few players had contracts that stipulated that everything in the bag including the ball had to be with their company. My player was a contracted Titleist guy carrying the titleist bag and his contract only required him to have 9 irons in the bag that were Titleist so he had 3-PW and Driver in Titleist. He had a separate contract to play the Titleist ball, he could have got $100,000 to put the Taylormade driver in the bag, but chose to stick with the Titleist. He had a Nickent hybrid, Ping 3 wood, and Callaway wedges. Of course he had Titleist headcovers on the hybrid and 3wd.

I am a die hard Pro V1 / V1X player - have played Titleist products for 30 years. Played some golf with my dad and he gave me a couple sleeves of the MTB. Felt a little softer, but performance was the same. Just purchased a 'test' pack - watch out Pro V1, I think with the $52 vs $32 price.....hmmmmmm

Thank you Mr. Snell for very frank and educating answers. I am 73 years old, my index is 6.2. In spite of working out every day I lost club speed and yardage in the last two years. I was under impression that I should play with low compression balls in order to compress them. I learned from your video that this is not the case. I can compress the same or better with a multilayered high compression golf ball as with a low compression one. Is this correct? Thanks

What do you think of making a golf ball with surface "rails" on it in a X pattern circumventing the ball? The rail would be a small width of smooth, dimple less, surface; not only could be used with driver & putter for alignment purposes, but also increase even surface contact for better roll.

I've been playing Snell MTB's now for a few months. These are excellent balls. My distance and feel around the green are as good, if not better, than with more expensive Titleist balls. I've shared a couple of MTB's with friends and they agree. Snell makes good balls (for less money).

What a genuine guy he seems to be, bought some getsum in yellow for winter golf and I do use hand warmers in jacket pockets and switch balls every hole giving each 10 or so minutes to regain temp, this is something I've done the last few winters.
The balls have behaved really well, better than the supersoft I played last winter, will be trying the MTB this season alongside my current truvis chromesoft off the back of the getsum results.
Great video found by accident tbh.

Thank you for doing this Dean. I knew the underlying cost/ marketing variable. And what I really gained most is the technology/construction/performance variable of golf balls in general. I haven't put dollars of my own for Premium priced balls but have received and played dozens for years. Everything you've put out here will affect any future purchase of golf balls I make. And the construction questions to ask about the effective ball in a ball fitting.

Thanks so much for this. I wish I'd seen it a long time ago. It really explains a lot that I've been curious about. I've been playing one golf ball after another after another and I've never been happy unless I was playing a premium ball. Now I've found Snell. I started out trying the MTB Red. Really liked it. Then I tried the MTB Black and loved it even more. The flight and spin in the scoring areas, as well as the putting feel was great. AND NOW... The MTBX! WOW. I've got a Pro V 1/X at a decent price that even a high handicapper like me can play regularly and feel comfortable with.

I recently contacted Snell with a question and it was promptly answered. What I was unaware of was that it came from Dean himself. Fast response. My problem is that the shipping cost is expensive and puts Snell at almost par with PRoV and it’s competition. I definitely want to try these balls from Snell. From the reviews that I have read, they are an excellent alternative to the overpriced high end balls available here. Can’t wait to see these in Canada.

I have to apologize for the error made when referring to a contact made to Snell and a reply from Dean. My mistake, I was researching a totally different ball called “Seed”. Enjoyed that and the info about where the ball really matters inside 150 yards. Making sure I use a 3 piece now always preferred a softer ball for feel, have predominantly used second-hand balls due to costs and my inability to hold them for long.
I can get around with one or two balls now so buying new balls is the go now and I'll give Snell a test.

Wow, Dean! Awesome stuff about golf balls in general, and Snell balls in particular. I'm already 'all in' with Snell. I've been playing the MTB since its introduction (just got a new case recently). I have the hat and the bag, too. So....
I'm looking forward to the new MTB. I doubt I'll order it until my current supply is exhausted, but then I'll eagerly order 6 boxes. But....
What I really want to know is where do we buy the shirts? The shirts for sale on the site have the logo on the sleeve, but yours has it above the left breast. Plus, IT"S SOLD OUT!
C'mon, Dean. I'm a converted zealot! I want to rock the gear!
The MTB is great for me. I hit it a good ways, but I spin the driver too much. I'm switching to a low-spinning driver--the Titleist 917 D3. I'm relieved to see my choice of ball is compatible with that objective.

Snell makes a great ball but the problem is, it’s still sells at a premium price. The best price is buying directly from Snell but you still have to pay for shipping so you’re paying $40 a dozen. That’s not enough to make me change from my Pro V1.

I've always played Pro V1 and recently I bought the test pack from Snell that gives two sleeves each of the MTB Black and the MTB X and I can definitely say there is so little difference between the Pro V1 and the Black that it's insane lol. Literally the only difference I could find is that the Black and X felt a little firmer than the Pro V1 when putting. That being said I didn't really look at that as a negative trait. I'd definitely recommend testing them out!

They balance car tires before installing them. Not only for performance value, but also for customer psychological marketing value, advertise how the golf balls' balance was checked for consistency before packaging. Money back guarantee if you find one out of balance!

Very informative. I wonder though if the big brand companies can afford to invest relatively more into R&D and thereby usually are the innovation leaders, allowing the smaller manufacturers to kind of piggy-back and on their designs. I've never seen a Snell ball here in Europe, but if I had a chance I would definitely give them a tryout. Currently playing the Srixon Z-Star which is also a bit cheaper than the Titleist, TM and such.

Very educational, I learned a lot. However I'm confused about only adding 8 inches with 1extra mph ball speed but if you want 10-15 more yards then you need to add 5-6 mph ball speed.

I thought that... that would make a 115mph swing = 25.5 yards lol.
Or does he mean you would get 8inchs extra per mph on a low compression ball?

Dean back in the mid 1980s Peter Thomson joined the senior tour and won like 7 or 9 tournaments that year. As you may know he was a five time open champion. That being said in that year that he won all those tournaments (1985) or approx that year; he played a Dunlop ball that flew very very low. No real good carry according to him. But it was noticeably low in flight even watching it on tv. The next year Dunlop stopped making it. Have you any ideas on what model that ball was or some if it’s spin rates or any info about it? I would love to try and hit a ball that flys very low. According to him it was great for his game. Other pros were stealing then from his bag. I saw this in an interview. I Romberg him hitting a very low ball then but I thought it was just his swing. Turns out it was the ball he was using!
