    How does wax specialist make that amount when the hourly pay is 8hr ? Do you get that by tips ?

    • @ShanikaShantel
      @ShanikaShantel  2 года назад +11

      Yup. I mostly wax every 15 mins. My average tip is $15-$20. Ive been waxing for 7 years. My clientele is very steady. Also, I get paid hourly, commission off services, commission off of retail and bonuses. ( I mostly always make my bonuses).. and every ones yearly pay as a waxer will always be different.

    Make sure you let everyone know that the Esthetician market has always been slow, it's still slow, and there aren't enough open positions for the number of people getting certified so the market is saturated. Unless you have a clientele and have the financial means to work for yourself... consider that field.

    I worked for Great clips for years and was management for a majority for that time. While you do make good money. if the salon you hire on at had high walk in traffic , it isn't a salon you want to stay at for a long time. They aren't a good company to work for. It is a great opportunity for brand new stylist to learn how to cut and style hair, but as far as longevity they treat stylists like they are in a sweatshop. I worked in the #1 great clips in the US and it was hell. Otherwise the pay was good. Thanks for the video!

      GC is financially selfish! They want you to produce up to $80 ph cutting customers every 15 minutes & only pay you less then a fourth of that profit! I guess they consider that you get tips but all stylists receive tips! The worst part is, most Franchise owners are not stylists & enter into this for nothing but profit, so therefore even with all the training in the world, you are treated disrespectful! Zero respect from ex truck drivers ETC! As a profession, we need to stand up to whomever just jumping into our profits! This is OUR INDUSTRY & ‘THEY’ ARE UNDER US! WE ARE DRIVING THE SKILLS & PROFITS; DO NOT TWIST THE FACTS! WE ARE ACTUALLY THEE OWNERS OF OUR INDUSTRY! OUTSIDERS NEED TO GO!! THE WORST PART IS, THEY ARE NOW STARTING UP APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS, SO THEY CAN REALLY TAKE FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE! 😮

    The nail tech I can see it being that as the owner gives them a base pay and they keep the tips. Now for nail techs who travel or have their own spot and charging $100 plus for a set... Sheeshhh lol I tend to get my nails done on my bday and do like 2 fill ins after. Not something I do regularly. I found one lady have not been to her yet. She has a spot inside a barbershop her work looks amazing!! I once went to a Cuban lady who had her own spot with one worker and she was very reasonable.. A gel coffin holo set was like $45. Lasted 3 weeks until I decided to get a fill in elsewhere!! I came to her with an SNS set that lasted less than 2 weeks and told me they did it wrong. Said it does not make sense for her to fix the nails but for her to remove them and do her own set. I appericate the honesty as it would of been more for her to fix the nails vs removing!

    I do laser hair removal from a tech that has been in the business for over 10 years. I know in NY they say you don't need to be an esthetician to perform but some programs you cannot start the laser course unless you are an esthetician. I recently purchased a Lux handheld removal to see how it works. One can def burn themselves on the highest setting!! I changed the setting by mistake once and got burned. Not sure how the videos I have seen these ladies did entire legs on level 5!!

    • @ShanikaShantel

      Yes each state has their own rules regarding licensing and certifications.. lol and oh no! That’s why I always recommend sticking with a professional for those types of services !

    • @Alimaway
      @Alimaway 2 года назад

      @@ShanikaShantel True but even so these so called professionals have horrible reviews or good ones and you end up with a bad experience!! The last underarm waxing I did which was like the 3rd one in my life I ended up burned!! She was a sweetheart but after it happened she should of offered me a free wax or gave me a refund on either the wax or the whitening. She gave me a travel size of Neosporin which I believe was expired as this happened Fall of 2021, I just threw it out and it said 2020. She was saying how in 20 years she never burned anyone and then look! After I waxed, I did an underarm whitening which likely was the cause. She was the professional and should of said do not do them the same day because the pores are open which will cause a reaction. Also, people need to read directions!! The laser does say the higher you go chances are burns. The higher it is does not mean it will work any faster. People want quick results and risk getting burned.

      @@ShanikaShantel I once got a sew in 2016. Found her on styleseat did a lovely job.. But when I got home, noticed putting it in a ponytail was too tight.. She told me to come in to loosen it but I let it get lose on its own. My hair was relaxed. When I removed the sew in, SO much of my hair was breaking off! I did not feel her braiding tight as I would of said something. Maybe it was the way she sew it IDK. It took me a few months to chop it all off myself.. This is why I stick to wigs. I had one hair stylist I went to about 3x which is alot since I wear wigs or get braids. It is hard to find good services...

    I have bad internet connection so I've been sitting here for ten minutes trying to watch the video but since I can't at the moment I decided to say I am just 14 but am really interested in like makeup and would love to do it as a career but when you look up the yearly salary online it isnt enough to live on so I'm afraid I'll have to choose another career. Is there a way to make money doing makeup?

    • @ShanikaShantel
      @ShanikaShantel  Год назад +1

      Hi Allie! Yes there is definitely ways to make a career in the make up industry. My advice would be to maybe start by looking into esthetician school and maybe doing esthetics as a whole. That way you don’t have to box yourself into just being a makeup artist. Also if your 14 start looking for companies now to get a part time job at.. learn the products and get the experience with clients one on one while you’re young so that when it’s Time to start living on your own you will be a polished professional who can set your price to whatever you want! The great thing about being in the field is if you’re really good and work for yourself you can charge whatever price you think your skills are worth.
