The Lump Under Covers
Paul Klusman
The lump under covers
Is where my cat lies
Hiding away from
The cold gray skies
Of winter the second
Month of the year
When scarce is the light
And slim is the cheer
I gaze out the window
At the barren trees
Waving stiff
In the chilly breeze
Now slipping a hand
To the soft warm fur
My cat replies
With a soft gentle purr
What grace to share
Some comfort somehow
What reason to be
In the here and the now
The days grow longer
We cannot stop spring
Out of the gloom
And born on a wing
A song of hope
What promise to keep
My cat lifts his head
Then falls back to sleep

Love you, Oscar. You, too, Klusman. Bundle up, everyone.♨
Thank you for sharing this, Paul. I enjoy when my cat goes under the covers and purrs at my touch, then goes back to sleep, purring softer until he falls totally asleep, then he sometimes snores, and he is so cute.
My old cat used to do that too. He'd lay next to my leg and I'd spend the night worrying about rolling over in my sleep and squashing him!😆
Slim in the cheer is right! So glad I'm not in the US anymore. We have shorter, warmer winters and none of the snow and ice I had to worry about when hubby was a driver over there.
Cozy pets are one of the top 3 sights to behold, in my view 🥰
I love your soft gentle poems and humor. Living in Northwest Minnesota you are right about the grey days. But as you said, longer days are coming.
Love the poem and Oscar is such a dear sweet kitty. I always worry about my kitty not being able to breathe properly while totally covered up so I spend most of my time re-arranging the cover and leaving an airhole for him. It's probably silly of me and it likely annoys my cat, but I do it anyway.
My cat, Jasmine, will be totally under the covers for hours by herself, keeping warm and cozy, and she's just fine. I have no idea how she gets enough air, but she obviously does.
A beautiful poem and tribute to our furry babies. TFS!
Beautiful poetic sentiments. Thank you ❤🥰😽😽
A very sweet tribute to Oscar, and all furry lumps under the covers this time of year. My older cat loves to be under the covers keeping warm as well, so I get it.
❤❤
Such a loving tribute to Oscar. As the years go by each moment is precious.
You must include your poetry in your book!
You nail the atmosphere and feeling. My cat sometimes mews and wakes me up at night to get under the covers - she stays for 5 minutes and then comes out again 😂 Yes it disturbs my sleep but if that’s what she wants, it’s ok by me 😊
Yep. One of life’s great free comforts. Like the cup of tea. Lucky people. Thanks Paul. And Oscar
Killer Haiku!
Just lovely!
We have an ambient heating pad I put on the bed every day in the cold winter days for our 14 year old Chloe.
One of your best
HOOOBA!
I hope you put these all in a book!
It would be so nice to have my ginger fur baby Sherlock (so named because he has to investigate everything) under the covers snuggling with me, instead of laying on my shoulder and across my face. It's just a little hard to breath with a mouth and nose filled with ginger cat hair.
Sweet Oscar. ❤
😊 As I sit here with my kitty under the covers as well.
Thank you Paul, I hope you're doing okay, sweet pictures of Oscar 🧡
So beautiful, both of you.
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Such a lovely poem for a much loved kitty 🐱😊❤
❤
That is so very sweet, Paul. Oscar is just so darned inspiring 😻
My cat sleeps on my bed until I enter the room to go to bed
Then she leaves... I wish she wouldn't!
I almost laughed when I saw the title on my feed! I have TWO lumps under cover, but usually because someone else is here, even just outside, like the oil delivery guy or arriving in the driveway, even though they are on the other side of the house! If any work was done in my room, I'd warn the person not to set things on the lumps on the bed... 🙀🙀🙀🙀
I also laugh about it when telling people about the 'Spirit' cats offered for adoption at the humane society - I tell them to take out the 'r'. Those cats are really feral and want nothing to do with us! My two are truly Spirit cats. Sweet, funny, cuddly, so long as no one else is here, but Lumps Under The Covers when strangers arrive! Any time of year, not just in the throes of cold gloomy winter.
Love that cute old boy of yours! 😻
Thank you for the sweet poem. Dear happy Oscar! Such a snuggler. A kitty under the covers is better than a heating pad on a cold night, and vibrates, too. My current kitty prefers to sleep on top of the covers, but she provides warmth anyway.
Under the covers is definitely better for heat purposes, but if it's company you want, as long as you feel their weight next to you, which side of the covers they're on is irrelevant. ;)
I love this! My little girl does the same thing. And just like you said, when I slide my hand under to touch her soft fur, she gently begins to purr. Thank you for this wonderful poem!
Our kitties are such a comfort to us. Oscar is an exceptionally good boy.
Aw Paul.. that's beautiful. What precious friends you and Oscar have in each other. My prayers to you and thank you Paul.
✨️💛 🐾🐾
hopefully you and Oscar are okay - the only news article seen says one tornado in Liberal, which lookup says is about 200 miles away, but it did mention others, only saying Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, not specifying where... Stay safe out there boys!!!
Tornado crossed over my house in 2012. It beat up a gas station a mile to the south and some apartments a half block north but no damage to my house. TJ was living in an apartment at the time. He and Sweet William came over to my house and we all hid in the basement with all the kitties. Good times.
@@RUclipsCatEngineer haha, nothing better than hanging out in the basement with your best friends!
Dear sweet Oscar, you have touched so many hearts, but none more than your loving human, Paul. ❤️
