I Put Gold in My Dagger (Serenity Pt.8)

- I'm adding 24k gold round wire to my awesome dagger called Serenity. There are three simple steps involved. First, I cut grooves for the gold wire. Second, I dovetail the grooves to secure the wire. And finally, I gently press the 24k gold wire into the grooves. However, there's a challenge. If I make any mistakes cutting the grooves too shallow, it could ruin the entire gold inlay, and I'll have to start over, wasting a lot of money in gold.

No one is making knives like this especially on RUclips. I’m hooked on you and your dads videos. The craftsmanship is just insane
Ilya from "that works" has a very different style but I really recommend you watch "Making the Heretic - The Sword of the Year". Not a knife but the design and engravings blew me away.
@@IldarioonI do agree with that
Tyrell Knife Works also makes some really great stuff as well, but yeah Kyle is the king.
I prefer alecs video style, but kyles skill for these highly detailed blades is definitely on top of most the people on RUclips
Cas knives also kills it
The Batman transitions are a good touch.
One day, I strive to be as skilled in my craft that every project is a masterpiece. You're an inspiration.
Hey thanks my friend. We are in your corner. Cheers
Dad
The quality of your brother's camera work and video editing is as top tier as your knives. Excellent job capturing the creativity of the building process!
Little tip: to make sure your worst nightmare doesn't happen, try to fill the seems with Play-Doh first, like a purple one, and you'll see if metal shines trough
More slow footage of the gold going in please Kyle. It's so satisfying to watch. Not to mention admiring your work.
One on hand, there is the actual physical strength of swinging an hammer precisely on an anvil. And on the other hand there is this; not many people have the physical stamina and dedication to quality to hand chisel each of those dovetails. Excellent work as always my friend!
Can't wait to see this gorgeous piece fully done! The stone handles was such a good idea. Looks almost other worldly with the fine polish on this one. Such a wonderful premium material to go with such exquisite craftmanship. Kyle is the AAA class of master forgers.
That trademark gold engraving you do is just pure artwork! I've always wanted to forge a sword (I've done knives before) and your channel really does spur me on. You truly are a Master!
Seeing that gold inlay being smashed was sooo satisfying!!
Always a great day when Kyle or Dad uploads! Looking great so far brother!
First off this knife is amazing. Extremely well done. His talent is second to none. The one thing I would say is that he should have used white gold or silver for the inlay.
Wonderful attention to detail, and thanks for explaining every little step, very cool. I gotta say, the Batman wipe at the beginning almost made me spew my drink on my laptop. Ha! Nice one, Josh. 🤣
A new video drops... instantly liked.
The combination of the skills you have, together with your artistic vision, makes this an item that is outstanding! 💯
Every video that I see from you they just keep getting better and better... amazing gift you have. Cannot wait to see more of your creations. Much love and gratitude
Great video as always. I continue to watch your videos with great interest.
For some of us the "patience and time" aspect are what makes something difficult. I am a bit of a handyman; I take care of most things around the house myself including everything from flooring, electrical, plumbing, drywall, etc... That said, I am by no means a craftsman. Being a craftsman takes a level of patience and dedication that I have never been able to achieve. You sir, are not just a craftsman but a master and I admire you greatly.
Hey thanks Joe
I love sharing these with my son, its fun to see his face when you show the finished piece.
Your videos keep getting better and better.
Thanks dude ! Massive inspiration watching your work and dads
Aaaaah…the fun part.
I love the inlay process.❤
I love your attention to details! The gold next to your purple stone handle is looking really special. Can't wait to see next video!
So excited for the video!! Felt like ages since the last Serenity vid!!! Amazing work!! ❤
Great work! As always. Thanks Boys!
Is anyone else even in the running for best knifemaker right now? This guys knives are as perfect as anything can be
Hey thanks my friend.
Dad
Looked flawless already in the last video. Amazing
Immaculate work as always!
The most beautiful knife I've seen.
That was a joy to watch. Thank you.
Engraving those channels takes a lot of concentration. I'm supposing the steady hands required explains the the lack of COFFEE BREAKS! 👍 😃
Beautiful Dagger, love the handle 🖤
Kyle is on another plane of existence for knife making. Pure art and theres no one here on youtube ive seen that even comes close to this level of skill, art, and craftsmanship. If i were a richer man, id totally request a piece from you and let your imagination run wild.
Hey thanks Caleb. Keep Forging On my friend.
Dad
You are such an amazing artist! I've been a collector for a few years but your videos are the first that make me want to actually start trying to make my own. Thank you!
Hey thanks Jeff. You can do it. We are here for you my friend.
Dad
That's pretty cool, Kyle. I sure am relieved that you didn't make those grooves too shallow. 🙂
Bravo Maestro!
Hey 👋 Kyle how you doing buddy nice!..man clean work blessings 🙌 🙏 👏
That's really cool Mr Royer
Excellent information. 👍✌
$Gold$ is nice though! Textured, flattened, polished. Mix those finishes in places gives the gold a bit extra. Plus inlays in the gold. Masterpiece stuff!
It's so great to see the video content develop. I've been a long time fan and can say that this is one of the best videos yet because of the clear explanation and superb video imaging. Keep up the great work guys! Definitely the best knife making content out there.
Hey thanks Nick. Glad you are here hanging out with us all my friend.
Dad
Your pieces are museum quality!
awesome work.....awesome video.....
Finally a new episode..i have waited 🙈
Nicely done
Those are some nice clean engraving lines
This dagger is on another level to say the least!
Hey thanks
Awesome work Kyle~
Hey thanks
This guys I very talented always enjoy his energy
Hey thanks
I wonder with that super vibrant stone handle, if silver inlay may be an even better choice.
Can't wait to see the finished knife anyway.
Gorgeous!
Thanks
Great Batman reference ( to the engraving room 😎 )
Muito bom ! Parabéns.
Love your work absolutely fantastic, just wish the blank area inside the borders of the inlay was also carved with a motif. 😊
beautiful dagger,i love that handle
Hey thanks
@@KyleRoyerKnives could you tell me how much would your daggers approximately cost me
I watched Alec Steele do this on a Viking sword a few years ago; he mentioned several times how hard it was to keep the lines straight, and to keep from scratching the surrounding metal. Watching this video, you make it look easy, which I know it is not. So far it looks amazing- nice job!
Hey thanks jim
Rad stuff as usual.
Thanks
I love watching the process and the incredible workmanship - although I don't actually like the yellowness of the gold in this setting. Still very interesting though.
Kyle I now have an idea and wonder how well you could make those lil lines show up. If u cut the channel shallow and the cut simple geometric or floral designs in the base of the channel then enlay gold over the top sand down n gun blue you could have the delicate designs in black in the middle of the gold
just started attempting to do the same with copper last week, but only having hand tools it is pretty tricky lol
Awesome 🙂🙂
The most detailed and beautiful knives on this platform and probably every other platform as well. On a side note the gold really throws me off with the color combo. My opinion only though. Keep up the attention to detail, it's what separates you from every other metal mover.
Hey thanks Sean.
Yes!!
Hy Kyle, I'm curious about your everyday knives, the ones you have in the kitchen, collections, and for general purpose, can you make a video about it? It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
I'd be interested in seeing that too. I wonder if he collects other makers knives as well.
To the Batmobile! Why don't you make a little plane with one of those chisels to run through after the cutting to ensure even depth? Or if you don't want the bottom smooth one at your minimum depth setting after you make the cross grooves. That way you could quickly ensure that you are clear everywhere, and wouldn't need to sweat missing a high point. It would also be faster, once you made the plane.
'Smashing' is a highly technical term. You might want to back it down a little. You don't want to put people off. :-)
It finished up beautifully. Interesting look, leaving the rough surfacing.
Kyle a cinquedea sword would be the perfect next project
ducking amazeballs
Unbelievable, as always
Hey thanks
always nice to see and how you explain all this. do the monkey nake it square was a funny part .
Reminds me of a Swiss watchmaker attention to detail.
"Gold is easiest because it's the softest", my wallet begs to differ.
So awesome. The artistry is comparable to a super fine watch being made. Was there a noticeable weight difference before and after the gold inlay?
Hey thanks. No noticeable difference. Good question my friend.
Dad
Do you do test inlay pieces? Like small piece of metal used in guard and cut a small test grooves at varying depths to find the threshold?
I wonder how silver inlay would work/look on a brass guard
Would love to see you make a stiletto dagger. I made a leaf bladed stiletto dagger but its no where near the quality you make blades.
hi kyle love your work what is the tool you use for the engraving and where to buy from
Hey thanks. GRS has rotary and chisel tools and magnifiers.
Grave on my friend.
Dad
shit like this makes me want to become a blacksmith
but theres no demand in my country, no place in my city i can be trained in and *oh yeah i live in an apartment* so thats prolly just a dream
Master kyle royer . I'm have a question. What is material for hot bluing. Thank you sir.
Круто!!
Hey Kyle! Could you gun blue the piece before you put the gold in? I’m guessing you can’t because sanding the gold down would ruin the gun blue?
Winner
🏆
Does anyone know or would recommend tools for metal inlay
Noticed you switched from using brass to hammer down the gold to using steel. Was the thickness of the gold or the width of the channel causing issues?
Good question my friend. No. Just a better tool for this application. Different style of work. This is overlay as opposed to inlay. Good eye. Flame On.
Dad
Could you share the equipment you're using for engraving? I wanted to try it but I have a hard time finding what I want in Europe so extra references are welcome.
It’s mostly GRS. Flame on my friend.
Dad
knife verry good you
Excelsior sold for $65k if I remember correctly...I'm guessing this piece will be worth about 20-30...worth every penny as well.
This man plays me
Sir im your fans from indonesia and i have request please make a KUJANG knive a traditional weapon from sundanese tribe west java its so many stories behind that weapon.. Thank you 🙏
Hey thanks nur. May God bless Indonesia, you, and your crew my friend.
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives thanks man..
Keep the good work 👍
Will galvanic corrosion not be a problem around the inlay edges?
Not at all.
Good question my friend.
Dad
I’ve seen your dad make his alloy … it’s similar to Japanese shibuichi alloy… ever thought of drawing that out into wire for your inlay instead of gold?? Using roksho or green tea or flame and you can achieve some wild results that are beautiful.. look at some Japanese kinko work…. Hon zogan…. Just a thought but I have this image of a longsword with your black mirror guard and pommel inlaid with shibuichi filigree…. Mmmmmmmm yummy
Hey thanks Charlie. We do roll and draw it into wire. I mostly use it for pins. Solid 25K gold is hard to beat. Keep Forging On my friend.
Dad
Beautiful! Just one (probably stupid) question: Why not use a little harder alloy? 24 ct gold is pretty soft and may so easily get scratched or damaged? Kind regards.
I suppose preferences. 24K is the purest and pretty sexy. It’s all serviceable. Keep Forging On my friend.
Dad
Honestly not a fan of the gold but I'm weird. Would much prefer to see silver to blend and compliment with the colors of the handle and blade as opposed to the the gold which stands out in comparison. Idk like I said I'm weird lol. But it's beatiful and the work that you put in is even more so 👍
Hey thanks Adam. There’s no need to apologize for being weird. You are in good company my friend. Chao.
Dad
👍
Instead of a rectangle in the middle, it might have looked nice to have a single line.
I'm the 500th like!!
Yees
Hi Kyle,
Is the 2023 sword gonna have a stone handle?
Greetings to all the Royers! :)
Not sure Jan. May God bless you and your crew my friend.
Dad
Stupid Question alert
What can't gold dust be used and then melted instead of gold wire.
Just asking
Great job 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
Absolutely can my friend. We can and do custom roll our own from time to time. We currently don’t have enough scrap to melt down in our crucible. FLAME ON my friend.
Dad
This might be weird, but try to make an epic pair of scissors with gold and damascus steel.
