You knew it was big game when Joe Buck and Tim McCarver were calling it.
Whether it was Fox Saturday Baseball, The NLCS/ALCS, or the World Series.

McCarver was a good guy. He worked with the Mets for many years. He was always pleasant and endearing to Ralph Kiner and Fran Healey in the booth. I can remember his respect for Kiners career and how gracious he was in his appreciation of Kiners stories about his playing days and his ability to let Kiner embrace his audience. I will always remember Mccarver affectionately calling Fran Healey....."FRANCIS". Yes..there were times when I felt Mccarver was overstated and times when I thought he was too embraced to the Cardinals organization to be a Mets announcer.....but that's understandable....since his greatest years were in St Louis and he had great relationships with the greatest players in that organization. It's sad to see him go. He had good intentions and that's one of the things that make for good people. He was knowledgeable about the game. He tried to teach the game in the booth and have fun while doing so. I sometimes fail to realize that everyone gets older. I hadn't heard about him in years and I applaud him for his service to the game of baseball.

He was also quite the honorary Toronto Blue Jays announcer too. How I enjoyed his work with Sean McDonough in the 1992 and 1993 World Series with CBS. God rest Tim McCarver's soul.

Scott Van Pelt probably spent last than 5 minutes preparing for this "interview".

Doesn't need to be controversial as long as
      the answer isn't so obvious.

Without Tim in the booth, baseball is missing something important. Always there with a great anecdote to showing little boy excitement, he never failed in his announcing baseball. I will miss him for sure. I just learned of his passing and know I will miss him for all time.

Since Joe Buck is on ESPN, why can’t he do baseball commentary? I know he does Monday night football but still he could still do baseball for Sunday night baseball night.

I think it’s his choice to not call baseball games anymore. He definitely could have done a playoff series for espn radio or tv but I think he’s happy doing just football.

Has SportsCenter reached out to Sean McDonough (who like Joe Buck, currently works for ESPN)? He and Tim McCarver were the lead broadcast team for CBS from 1992-93. McDonough actually replaced, Joe Buck's dad, Jack as CBS' lead play-by-play announcer.
