Just finishing up doing this job now. Excellent video! A few things to note: The lower manifold nuts were removed, but the replacement of them wasn’t mentioned. You can install those nuts and brackets on the studs and torque then down before installing the turbo. To remove an install the catalytic converter bracket bolt, a flex head 3/8 ratchet is very helpful. The most difficult part of this job is installing the coolant line to the block with the M12 triple square, getting both gaskets in and tightening it down in a very cramped space. You really need a stubby 3/8 ratchet for that, or extremely tiny hands.
you are SPOT on with that coolant line. im stuck on that part right now. Lost about an hours labor already and to keep sanity i stopped yesterday before breaking something on purpose. Going at it again right now. Everything else is super easy. Also i didnt even remove the cat bracket at all. moved back enough without even touching it.

that's a very nasty job on that car. A friend of mine did one of those for a RUclips viewer of his about 7 years ago and I don't think he has any intentions on doing anything like that again on an Audi or VW anytime in the future. I have a friend who has one of each and when he had the timing belt done we took it to a guy I know up the line who is a master Audi technician and has an indoor lift and jack, and does them all the time. Every man's gotta know his limitations. Yes they are expensive cars to repair and it's not something that I would advise anybody to buy who is not willing to work on their own cars and/or is on a tight budget.
Thank you for this video, tackling this job myself and replacing the radiator at the same time so I have the front clip off; going smilingly so far thanks
Pretty helpful, I have just done it over last few days. The biggest bummer was lack of proper tools, I think it is worth mentioning you need a very short triple squares to be able to get to most of the places from the bottom. I have done it with the normal ones and it was very difficult. Also I wasn't able to get to that coolant line just because my triple square would not fit in so I have ended up taking a coolant line from the turbo and I was able to get that out. If I would do it another time it would probably just take me a day as I would know what to do and what tools I need.

@@fcpeuro I'm so embarrassed to ask for your advice. But I need help, I got ripped off and being a chick makes it easy. I bought my 2011 Audi A4 brand new. My check engine light came on years later. I asked them how much they charge to replace turbo. He quoted me 3500. So I agreed. Which was late Thursday, Auto shop calls me next day at 1pm and tells me it's ready.. That seemed very odd to me because this isn't a turbo place. They would have to order it from somewhere. Or find one in Las Vegas. Anyways, I asked them how long the turbo warranty is. They said 2 years. When I left there,, my car drove the very same exact way as it did when I brought the car there. Except for them draining out the oil, I know they didn't put a turbo in my car. My car still smoked a little from the under the hood and the check engine light remained on. I called him to tell him, he said "well I'm sure it would after all that oil." I learned a lesson for trusting these people and not asking to see the turbo that they took out of my car.. Thanks for nice video, could you clarify what engine and turbo type car used ? I have CJCA motor and replacing Garret based turbo to it. Would you kindly advise how much all seals / gaskets part numbers different in my case to yours video ?
I know people who’ve had them go bad at just 40k miles. It’s absolutely ridiculous. For a supposed high end car with German engineering their quality control is garbage. You could buy 2 identical e brand new audis and drive them the exact same, and have a part last 20k miles on one and 150k miles on the other. They really should offer a warranty or recall since Audi parts go so quickly. You will never make it past 100k miles and not have something break. I just passed 100k miles. I had my timing chain go at 70k $2,000+. Then my catalytic converter go at 80k. Another $2,000+. And now my turbo charger is going at 100k miles and that’s another $2,000+. I eventually wised up and brought it to a private euro mechanic who did it for half the price the dealership wanted.

@@outoftime7740 if you're worried about getting hustled you'll at least have to buy your own OBD scanner and find out what fault codes you have and what they mean
@@outoftime7740 these cars also suffered from an oil consumption issue that was caused by bad piston rings and requires the head to come off. I have a rattling waste gate and the symptoms are under boost, but not oil consumption. There was a recall for the engine. Mine was fixed before I bought it used around 2015.
How many millimeters is this turbocharger?
is it bad to drive with a wastegate rattle?
It will slowly destroy your turbo over time I’m talking like death and limp mode
Y you are change this turbocharged?
wastegate rattle
I got to 6:17 before i said fuck that 😂
😂😂
Thanks for nice video, could you clarify what engine and turbo type car used ? I have CJCA motor and replacing Garret based turbo to it.
Would you kindly advise how much all seals / gaskets part numbers different in my case to yours video ?
How many miles should these turbos last?
Doing a 2017 a4 at my shop right now 40k miles lol
@@anthonygonzales2811 how Many hours of work Is that?.
Book time is 8 hours but if you have done 3-4 a week like I do I got it down to about half the time
I know people who’ve had them go bad at just 40k miles.
@@MrGhoulie idk, mines a 2012 Audi A4 avant and the turbo is just fine with 80,000 miles on it
My 2019 A5’s Turbo just stopped working. Audi Dealership wants 5k to repair it
I’m in Georgia I got a guy who is about to do it for $1200
@@leroy450 that’s a good deal, I ended up going to NEW German Performance in Manassas, VA and I paid $2.3k for parts and labor
@@ThePto95that’s a good from a shop.
How much is turbo kit
Dan, we have a few options available. Be sure to enter your YMM over at FCPEuro.com to see what we offer for your vehicle.
Looks like about an hour. One out of shop prices that’s not bad.
If you're super experienced and have all the right tools... Not to mention the possibility of sheared bolts
shit took me a week of everyday wrenching lmao
Helpful video but if I had to drink every time he said m8 triple square I don’t think I’d be conscious by the end of the video
😂😂😂😂
Audi tattoo should have a line through it.
I really do love Audi and I am really handy but f**k this I am going to bring my car to the mechanic to let it be fixed.
Whole different engine as a 2017 audi a4 allround. This is not for all audi's.
Should have replaced lines with turbo
B8.5 Gen s5 isnt turbocharged... Am I missing something?
yeah its a q5
*edit*
I see now that its saying in the title
ruclips.net/video/qPL3q7wr49A/видео.html Should this be tightened before I sit the turbo down or just fit the turbo and tighten these 4 bolts on support brackets?? After the install I am getting this whislte during engine load and boost: ruclips.net/video/H7BZSXGUvDE/видео.html wonder if it could be bad seal between turbo and cylinder head.
The guy using gloves and a mask just to hold the Turbo lol come on men really..?
If I ever have to do this to my 2022 Audi Q5, I will run it down the river first to claim insurance.
Must be nice to have a lift! Cheater. Do it in your driveway like we have to!!
😂😓
Just got quoted £1500
Ouch! Was looking at an audi with a "small" turbo issue. Think I'll move on 😂
