As far as I'm concerned, this is 100% canon, which means that in some tavern there is an NPC version of Matt who hosts Bunions and Flagons games every week for the locals.
Suburbs and suburbans
@@mattdale8675 Look up 'Humans and Households' by ZOE
yeah this is cannon now
@Moonstruck fun fact: in the Waterdeep Dragon Heist book there's a table of content with all major NPCs from the Forgotten Realms hanging out in a tavern and at one table there's Matt Mercer himself.
I broke when i saw it, wonderful!
With TLOVM animation’s multiple Matt NPC cameos, I believe this 2 yr old comment has come into fruition :D
"Roll an attack at disadvantage."
"Why disadvantage?"
"Because I've never seen you throw a spear before."
I want this in my campaign.
It's also fair reasoning. As a fighter Percy has proficiency but really when in his life would he have ever learned how to throw a spear.
its a strange concept of a game.
playing as your character playing as you character
meaning if grog the DM made vax fail everything even on nat 20s it would kinda make sense
Love how he just accepts it. “Tis fair.”
DMing at it's finest!
I did this as a DM to the group’s ranger, he rolled a Nat 1 on a crossbow attack”he never used one, he only ever used a regular recurve bow” I told him his Tabaxi tried pulling the string on the crossbow back like a regular bow string
"Roll a Perception check."
"31."
"You don't see anything!"
I shouldn't have been drinking when I saw that bit!
"Grog, 31 is higher than 15. It's really high."
"Right, so you see, like, her genealogy going back like 4 generations."
"Do you even know what genealogy is?"
"Yeah, it's like blue denim."
Jeaneology
I am going to the store to by the cooldest six and will watch the episode again!

Chris McDonald Was
Wow I am extremely impressed with Travis doing an impression of another character AS his character. Astounding. A truely talented actor AND voice actor
Travis as grog doing an impression of pike was choice.
Being good at doing a character is quite impressive. Being good at doing a character that’s doing another character is truly talented.
Reminds me of the time Mel Blanc voiced Bugs pretending to be Daffy speaking to Daffy pretending to be Bugs. Apparently he even managed the whole conversation in a single take.
@@trogdor381 And it warped reality as the others felt that fourth wall going.
Arcordia and both voices were very distinctive as well, which is what really makes it crazy impressive.
"Scanlan did you kill my bear?"
He's laughing too hard to legitimately answer. I love it.
When Sam can't answer, Talesin as Percy asks through his own laughter, "Did you perpetrate this GRIZZLY murder?" This causes Travis to spit out what's in his mouth to avoid a spit take, and Liam breaks up even more.
Did they just cut that part of the clip? I could have thought this video was a bit longer when I saw it about 3 years ago…
“Idk I ate that meatball from scanlan and then i FUKN DIED” ~trinket
"I dOn'T wanna MakE anY asSUmpTions, BuUttt..."
@@JayTohab I have never seen Sam lose his shit laughing like that.
@@bigfatcarp93 Liam looked like he was going to injure himself he was laughing so hard.
To quote Liam from a previous session "I laughed so hard I got a six pack from it"
I have a peculiar friend. At his birthday I ended up spending more time laughing that not ... and 15 minutes straight at some point.
I swear, the next day moving was hard.
My favorite part is when Sam litteraly forget how talking works because he's too busy laughing all he can
I'm used to Liam or Matthew on the DM chair...but when Travis is on it, it's staggering how huge he is.
He's a very big boy
The episode with the skull showdown, when Travis showed up in a button down shirt. For some reason he looked REALLY intimidating that episode
pjuster2 For you.
"Because I've never seen you throw a fucking spear before" I was rolling on the floor laughing
"Roll at disadvantage"
"...why at disadvantage?"
"Because I've never seen you throw a fucking spear before"
Taliesin's joke from Ep 47 came true: "We can go to the game room, get some dice and some paper… It’s called Meta & Dragons, we’re just going see how deep it goes!"
Oh I bet Taliesin would know about meta..
I can't believe Sam broke like that.
I think that's the hardest I've ever seen Sam laugh in an episode
He has been waiting for sooooooooooo long to do that shit
To quote Liam from one of the encounters with Viktor, the black powder merchant "I'm going to be over here failing to stay in character"
Seeing him at a complete loss for words is bizarre but excellent :P
9:20
"Throw at disadvantage, 'cause I've never seen you throw a spear before..."
"It is only for us big thinkers"
>Has an intelligence of 6
He knows what hes doing
HE KNOWS STUFF AND DRINKS THATS WHAT HE DO
I love that it implies grog thinking of keyleth and pike as the two not big thinkers of the group like what XD
Hey hey hey hey 6 is a big number you need 2 hands to make it and thats more than 1
Well Grog's like 3 meters tall, right? He's huge compared to the others.
I don't recall Sam ever breaking that hard, this was mana from heaven.
travis playing grog, playing matt, play an NPC.
a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. The dudes are emerging
@@tomaszskowronski1406 dudes all the way down

This is wrinkling my brain!
This is basically Tiny Tina's Assault On Dragon's Keep.
they should totally invite ashley burch back to run a (copyright approved) version of that with the crew
Berg Electron YESSS!!! Thank you, I thought I was the only one!
Bunkers and Badasses is pretty bad ass.
I have often thought about a D&D5e version of Dragon Keep.
I know what my next campaign is gonna be...
Can't breathe. Can't breathe. I need more than a one shot. This has to become an annual event. Travis is too good at it.
I need fanart. I need soooooooo much fanart of all of this.
So much this. I don't care if he DM's as Travis or as Grog, I would just love more :D
Travis was worried about his DMing skills when he first suggested this. But I think this shows how great a DM he is for a chaotic adventure
6:42 TRAAVIS WILLINGHAM
Travis is so good, he risks marriage to stay in character XD
I have a sneaking suspicion that Laura is accustomed to such shenanigans, and that she knew what she was getting into long before they were married.
MarkD1159 l have a sneaking suspicion your sneaky suspicion is correct
IceWave608 I have a sneaky suspicion that these sneaky suspicion of sneaky suspicion are sneakily suspiciously correct.
@@DatDapperBoi I don't have a sneaking suspicion
Sneak 100
Grog breaks the fourth wall so much it literally just stops existing entirely
It's that siege damage, man. Walls stand no chance, no matter how conceptual they are
I love how both Sam and Liam had the same exact reaction at the same exact time at 9:20
K1LL3R J Followed by Laura and Taliesins matching reactions
that is one of the few moments I've ever seen Sam lose his composure, he's usually the one causing the gut-busting laughter
wtf, that is absolutely SPOT ON!
They are such bros
Travis voicing Grog voicing Pike was probably the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
D&Dception! A D&D game where your characters play D&D is so meta! Grog as a dm would lead to such shenanigans.
Wait a second...shouldn't Matt be GMing this game where Grog is the GM?
I love how it implies Grog has transcended time and space and witnessed the Critical Roll game.
@@dashiellgillingham4579 It's what happens when you drink THAT much
@@SendarSlayer And the humor had just gone off the WTF scale :P They can't keep a straight face.
"Perpetrate this grizzly murder" ...didn't catch that the first twelve time i've watched this, I'm dying all over again.
Anthony Allen who said it?! I can’t tell lol
Percy/Taliesin
Scanlan poisoning Trinket was the best thing ever, I died laughing.
Offbeatworlds as funny as it was, it kinda made me think about my dog Roosevelt, he passed away before this became live
Trinket died choking
"I don't want to make any assumptions, but..."
Didn't get that bit
Doran Martell the bear “didn’t want to assume” that he was obviously poisoned by Scanlan lol
8:45 and notts voice was born.
9:52 and Caleb's spellbook holsters.
Travis is so fucking brilliant at improv. "Yeah it's like a blue denim?" had me in tears.
I don't know if I can do over an hour of this...it'll be on the news: a young man, a fan of the webseries "Critical Role" appears to have physically died from laughter.
YEs be careful then, This is only just over 10 minutes, I cut lots of extreemly funny moments as they were a bit too spoilerish. Enjoy the full episode on Monday here: Critical role is found here:geekandsundry.com/shows/critic...

They left out my favorite parts where Scanlan takes "Stupid Damage" and when Grog picks a T-rex for him to fight xD
That pepper mill scene was fantastic because it's *SOOOOOOOOOOOO* domestic! Any husband can relate.
You can feel the rule nazis having multiple anuerysms from here
I thought that I heard some popping noises since last thursday...
Nah man, too busy laughing
Yep, that's the 15 dislikes currently, all going "Your fun is wrong! Wrong, wrong, WRONG!!!"
I like the fact it kind of built off an offhand comment by Taliesin's character Percy when they first encountered Scanlan's mansion, basically saying: We can get some paper, some pencils and some dice and I'll show you this game...
I kept thinking about the movie Inception while watching this, and Percy's comment. And giggling like an idiot, I don't care, this was hilarious.
S Toy Episode 47, 21:35 if anyones curious.
Well, technically, given that it’s a D&D game within a D&D game, and grog is the GM, you could say that any mistakes are on purpose.
7:14. Best part of the one-shot starts right here followed by the moment where I laughed the hardest ever since this show started. Sam doesn't lose it that easily, but seeing him turn red was hysterical and Liam's abs have now toughened to the point of giving him +5 to natural armor.
A week after this I met Travis and Laura at a convention in Australia and when I met Travis I said to him: "I hope you become a DM again." he just laughed and OMG those two are amazing. But you should have the seen the autograph line.
Sam.exe has stopped working.
Grog's tutor is a miracle worker! He knows Xylophone starts with an X!
I saw your comment right that moment
This was the first Critical Role I had ever seen live - I was not disappointed
what an introduction to the show haha
Oh wow that trinket "and then i f--king died" bit made me genuinely start weeze-lauging out loud and caused me to tear up. Man its hard to make me physically laugh and i havent laught *that* hard in a really long time. Absolutely incredible.
"Xylophone players"😂😂😂
Man, you could retire on that!
*playaz
5:02
That whole Trinket exchange is just gold! I laughed so hard, I was literally crying and I needed a whole tissue box lol This was amazing!
travis is so freaking good at doing drunk pike, its almost uncanny -.-
Best one-shot ever
"Perpetrate this grizzly murder!" Is such an underrated line XD
Taliesin is a master at the underrated one-liners.
I love the parallel reaction at 9:21
A D&D game... where the D&D characters... play themselves in a D&D game.
One more level and we're going to end up in Limbo.
Travis got drunk-Pike's cadence down flawlessly.
9:45 Liam just like, wiggles? And then after that the pointing this was hilarious XD the trinket bit was my favorite
I love how Liam tried so hard to recompose himself after it, only for Travis to immediately send him spiraling into laughter
Travis playing grogg as grogg does an impression of pike as pike recreates what looks like an actual conversation they all had with a drunk Ashley is PURE GOLD! Hahahahaha
Just stumbled across this after staying up 3 hours sick with anxiety. I’m now laughing with tears in my eyes and feeling well enough to rest. Thank you for this
Sleep well Critter ❤
I. Love. Travis. Fucking. WILLINGHAM!
oh my. and what did Mr.Willingham do to attract the affection of ser Travis?
If vox machina lives on through bunions and flagons in the next campaign everything is fine
Josiah Tolentino It would so funny if Nott wanted to be a big tough barbarian, who she then names Grog because she's an alcoholic
This one-shot is forever immortalized (in my mind at least) as the "Complete and Total Sam Riegel's sides destruction"
I have NEVER witnessed Sam laughing so powerfully as in this little one-shot and I loved every moment of it. x)
Liam and Sam were so in sync with that laugh clap omg
I love this and I love how completely different it is from Taliesan's two-shot. We're getting to see a lot of new angles of the players.
The moment Sam broke, I broke
I only began watching Critical Role during Campaign 2, and never had much interest in going back to Campaign 1. But I was *dying* watching this and now I'm watching the full one. Thanks!
Yeah, Mission Accomplished, Pass on what you have learned:)
XP, whats that mean?!?! Xylophone players!!!!
5:02
Can we just acknowledge the incredible amount of SERIOUS acting skill it takes to be Grog playing himself/other characters?! So meta, that’s absolutely incredible
My god. This .... just all of this. This is the best pre-birthday gift I could have asked for. Thank you Travis Willingham and thank you Vox Machina
9:50 - Liam's broken! Also, "perpertrate this grizzly murder"! Had me in stitches!
I've been enjoying this rotating DM chair in between campaigns. This was my favorite of them including Sam's and Liam's. Travis is just an absolute genius.
It shows how good of a voice actor he is to be able to voice act a character with a voice like Grog trying his best to voice act a character with a voice like Pike.
Travis pretending to be Grog pretending to be other people
I can't get over Sam and LIam's aswell as Laura and Talesin's almost perfectly synchronized reactions at 09:21
So truuue!!
Travis's face after Laura spots the sharpie on their mill XD
"It was a wedding gift, who cares...."
Travis is my favorite
I lost my shit at Trinkets bit LOL My keyboard is full of cola now LOL!
apparently Travis couldn't keep it in either lol 9:41
Turns out Travis does a better Trinket than Matt, and I'm betting Matt, wherever he was watching this, was dying of laughter.
I come back to this video whenever I have a rough day. This is hands down the episode of Critical Role that has made me laugh the most, and this "highlights" version is so good. Thank you.
Wow, thanks!I am glad it helps you laugh when life gets tough, hang in there Critter ❤
You and me both, the "I ate the meatball Scanlan gave me and fucking died" will always send me into a giggle fit.
"And he throws... like a million" i'm dying over here, everyone is asleep in the house and i can't make a noise, help
I love the fact that everyone was losing their shit. I always watch these live sessions and just want to see Matt Mercer like lose his complete shit for about 5 minutes or more.
When Laura asks if Travis put sharpie on the pepper mill. I was laughing so hard, because of how quickly this huge 6 foot 4 man got scared of his 5 foot 5 wife. He can't even make eye contact with her death stare.
She's so tall! She looks so tiny next to the guys.
9:00 I love how the boys are just losing it while Laura is trying to play
"We're fucking doing this." Best opening ever!
I always look at Liam the most when they play, because you can see just how much he loves playing dnd with his friends
The pure joy from Sam is beautiful. He is having the best time I have seen him have in my time watching CR. He is supporting his friend with everything.
this has to be one of my favorite episodes bc i've never seen sam laugh so fully so often in a single session
I ate that meatball from Scanlan and I fucking died...... I don't wanna make any assumptions but......
9:38 HOLY COW! How did I miss Travis taking a drink, then laughing so hard he has to spit it back into his glass!!! That's why Liam points at him!!!!
This is the greatest thing ever!
Do you even know what Genealogy is?
Yeah, it's like a blue...denim...
James L Travis is just lightning fast when it comes to replies like this. Love it!
Best highlight reel from that episode. Great job.
Imagine now if Jester DM oneshot next ((:
Oh no
The TNT Raider everyone would be unicorns... except the traveler, who everyone worships, and everyone’s friends
Playing Plutonia :I sleep
Jester DMing : *player died from laughter*
The grog-ception is astounding yet wonderfull. Travis ought to have his own little one shot campaign again.
3:02
grog: "roll perception check"
vex: "31"
grog: "you don't see anything"
i can't breathe xD
9:22 Liam and Sam have the exact same reaction to Travis talking as Trinket
10:05 No one ever talks about Liam's Mike-Myers-Cat-in-the-hat-movie constipated-laugh right there that has me in stitches every time. Liam has a joyous laugh usually, then it gets really high pitch for a while... but when he loses his breath and falls into this weird deep belly laugh; you know he is too far gone to recover whenever you hear it.
That. Was Glorious xD
"TRAVIS WILLINGHAM" Oooooh he's in trooubllllle
Oh man. I need a gif just of Liam pointing from 9:51-9:58
Does anyone else think that if Matt were playing in this, he'd be Gilmore?
Or a drunk Jaret?
TP Burrow "I can get you some thhhuuuude"
That would also be pretty awesome.
I love that they did this 100% in character I kinda wanna see this in the show
I never noticed Sam mouthed « magnificent mansion » they were really supportive of Travis DMing
I had to stop just before break in the live show, couldn't take it. So completely amazing. Also Sams's mug.
Thank you so much for cutting it to the funniest bits.. I needed that laugh tonight.
Great vid! Was hoping to see the part when everyone was jumping over a small gap with the dart trap at the bottom.
Vax rolled a 37 and conveniently Grog made Vax the only one to fall in the pit lol
Yes there were many fantastic moments, I don't want to spoil all of them though, just give you a sprinkling of enticement:)
Sounds good! I hope they do more one shots with all the different members!
He rolls a million and the door is gone
This was everything I needed.
Grog directing a D&D game is everything I never knew I wanted
That entire one shot was a gold mine.
this is seriously too good. i mean after all this time of taking the game like really f**ng serious this is what vox machina and us needed some mindless stupid fun. and all hail the grand poobah de doink of all this and that for delivering =D!.
