Jody is one beautiful woman! Man, the ladies from the 80's/early 90's were so amazing! We don't have classy, beautiful singers anymore like Jody Watley, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, En Vogue, Karyn White, Toni Braxton, Chante Moore, etc.
Yes! Jody should definitely get more credit. It's not like she hasn't made ANY impact. She is a Grammy nominee AND winner and she had some very Iconic videos such as "Real Love","Friends" and others. To me she was a trailblazer. I still follow her music! I'm a true fan and I don't believe in discarding an artist just because they aren't "in the game" anymore or so to speak. I like to remeber them for the body of work they've created-especially the ones whose influence is so obvious.
Jody was "that" girl. When she was a part of the trio Shalamar she was a standout. On the solo tip she was a cold beast. She was unique, innovative, a great dancer as well as a fashion icon and she served you dinner with an appetizer. She was every gay guys BFF !
Jody is among the innovators and this video is probably the first „reveal“ of all time! The moment that dress comes off and she still rocks the leotard with class and style is everything 💕
I liked a few Jody Watley songs and this was one of them. It surprised me that this song didn't perform well on the charts, as I found it captivating. But around this time, several popular female pop artists faltered on the charts, including Belinda Carlisle, Cathy Dennis, Sheena Easton, and later, Paula Abdul. Like Jody, most were on their third or fourth albums. This was in the wake of Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" and Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" albums, which raised the bar for dance pop. After Deee-Lite's "Groove is in the Heart", several music videos began featuring retro styles, which didn't quite click with the times. Things were also shifting away from dance and moving into grunge. I still think it's a great song-the timing might not have been right.
I always loved me some Jodey Watley! Unfortunately, I was ten or eleven when this song came out, and NEVER knew who sang it, nor was I aware that there was a music video! Brings me back to an early junior high crush. She was cute! My search is over!
I was nearing five years old when I first heard the song in December 1991. On the 10th of that month I turned five. Saw the music video for it and still couldn’t figure out who sang it. In 2006 at the age of 19, I bought Jody’s greatest hits album. Heard it again, and fell in love with it all over again. I’ll never tire of this seductive song
I have to totally agree with tlover1062. Jody Watley does not get the recognition she deserves in the industry. She has true talent and is the total package.
Omg. Timeless. True talent. Still a huge fan. I still play “Everything”. When music actually moved you. Thanks Jody for gracing the world with your gift.
Yasss I LOVVVVE me sum Jody Watley & I've always have since I was younger & Now u can CLEARLY see &/or tell where these Now female singers get their Sudden ideas from, js👈🏽👀but Ms. JW been singing & dancing with Shalamar since the early 80's & a dancer on Soul Train for many years & she once said that she CAN dance for 7 hours WITHOUT getting tired & She's BeYouTiFul & has SOOO much Natural talent & Energy & she Should be recognized for ALL OF THAT FORREAL!!!🤎🎙🎶💪🏽💁🏽♀️🤎💥🔥🔥🔥🔥💞💞💞💞🤘🏽😘❤❤❤😘
Wow! Didn't realise this video was paying homage to the choreography of Bob Fosse & Gwen Vernon from the movie Sweet Charity which was also the inspiration behind Beyoncé's Get Me Bodied music video!
Who's more successful?... Jody Watley or Shalamar??.... Someone said she wouldn't be successful without shalamar so I guess she showed them who's boss!!! Salute to Jody for turning doubt into Laughter !! Knockout
The most underrated artist of all times! She got everything to be called one of the greatest artists. She looked a lot like Sade , but Sade took all the fame. Also she sounded like Janet Jackson mixed with Paula Abdul, but they took all the fame too. I dont know why?😮
Love this video!! Coincidentally, this is the first time I've seen this video & just left the pharmacy & was participating in one of my favorite pastimes: sniffing candles!! 💘 🎶
I remember I had this on tape..sadly all those artist wasnt big as Mariah Carey. When Mariah came out as an artist, everyone is about Mariah that time....But I love this song. so 90s
Jody's talent created this ❤ mystique within her artistry: she delivers with tasteful intent within her talent. Her voice, moves and smooth approach just lands her that underrated recognition 👏🏽 👌🏽 💃🏽🎶🫶🏾🤩❤️
This song reminds of of En Vouge. OR, does it remind me of Jodi Watley before En Vouge!! I think the later!! JODI SET THE STANDARD!! This comment is from Roy. I grew up during the Jodi Watley, Soul Train, Shalamar times. I bought Jodi's music whIie II was in the military. I came to realize later in my life that she danced on soul train with her favorite dance partner on Soul Train, Jeffrey Daniel. And they, along with Howard Hewitt, formed the group Shalamar! Such fun times during those days!!
@jilberia86 I thought I was the only one who saw the connection!!! Beyonce' does give me Jody Watley sometimes as well as Vanessa Williams. She was born in "81 so that gave her plenty of time to absorb all these phenomenal women of the 80's and 90's! She channels them all well IMHO.
Her 1987 album was much better and her style of music back then more than this modern style of 1991....! Although i really liked "Am the one you need baby" from this album especially the remix/extended club version!
@DS9Sisko Watley has always stated this is the only video she used dancers or choreography and has acknowledged it was inspired by her childhood love of musicals Fred Astaire, Fosse, Gene Kelly and the like. The slow motion/real time scene she said back in the 90's came from her favorite scene in "The Easter Parade" w Fred Astaire/Judy Garland. She also said, since it was hard for her to not be freestyle she broke from choreography too. Who are Freemasons?
Its just that they dont know any better. B is in her own and she always acknowledges the Singers dancers artists who came long before her. She is well aware these female artist broke down doors for her to come on in and enjoy. And i am sure she is returning the favor how ever she can.
And don’t forget a beautiful woman of that era (70s/80s/90s) with a soulful voice…Teena Marie
@@rayshawnlamarbutler120 IT all synthetic these days .
Right on 😂
True. Where they at now.
❤❤❤
Man, I love this woman. Love her voice, her moves, her looks.

Man, I remember her. She was THE most stylish, catchiest, pop/R&B girl around. Even Madonna couldn't touch her. Go Jody!!!!!
She is so classy, elegant, smooth, and .... stunning!
Jody was "that" girl. When she was a part of the trio Shalamar she was a standout. On the solo tip she was a cold beast. She was unique, innovative, a great dancer as well as a fashion icon and she served you dinner with an appetizer. She was every gay guys BFF !
Jody Watley is still the Best!!! Her Music ROCKS!! Timeless!!!
Yup
Jody is among the innovators and this video is probably the first „reveal“ of all time!
The moment that dress comes off and she still rocks the leotard with class and style is everything 💕
This sister STILL HAS NOT received the credit for her contribution to and R&B, nor her talent. THE GIRL IS STILL THE HOTTEST OUT THERE!!!
She comes across as natural, sexy, classy, intelligent, and talented. This song is so seductive.
I liked a few Jody Watley songs and this was one of them. It surprised me that this song didn't perform well on the charts, as I found it captivating.

U can clearly see where Beyoncé got the Give Me Bodied video idea from!
Kevin Wingate no she was inspired by Bob Fosse and so was Jody Watley

@@torresongs2 Thanks for the info …I never seen this until Jody did it in the early 90’s that’s why it looks like Bee got the concept from her!

I have to totally agree with tlover1062. Jody Watley does not get the recognition she deserves in the industry. She has true talent and is the total package.
An under rated song. Great video and choreography.
1991 was a good year for Miss Jody Watley. Love her ❤
Totally miss these types of vocals! Jody had that voice!!
I always thought the actress Anika Noni Rose looks like Jody Watley. She even kinda sound like her when she sings.

I USED TO ROCK THIS JOINT BACK IN COLLEGE. CONCORDIA COLLEGE, SELMA, AL. I PUT THAT ON EVERYTHING: MS WATLEY, U R TRUELY LOVED.
DARLENEIAM
Not sure why this fire song wasn't a big hit for her. Paula Abdul and Vanessa Williams were in full swing during this time singing similar music.
GO Jody! I want yall to know she was in her early 30's in this video, she aint never lost her sex appeal
Seduced so many to this.

So sultry and classy. That voice and style and R&B flavor. Ms. Watley is cut from a different cloth from the gals in R&B today.

Only Jody can do this song justice. This video is classic. And Jody is simply the best.
