If the human race still exists in 200 years time, classical music will be the same as well as the present composition,if Wilson gets lucky against Stravinsky,Beethoven,Mozart etc...

Steven Wilson has gathered the best selection of musicians to surround himself with on this current tour, it was an absolute joy to see him at Hammersmith last week... Ninet Tayeb being there too, with her astonishing voice, put the cream, icing and cherries on the cake!! Epic, awesome and amazing long may he continue to make my ears very happy!!
How has it been three years already?! I remember him joking about the merch like it was yesterday. "Buy the new Mute Gods album, it's very good. But only after you've bought all my stuff first, of course. Steven Wilson fondue set..."
What an incredible artist...Steven Wilson...creating this brilliant music...and then having these amazing musicians on stage. Dave Kilminster.... no words….
Tuve mucha suerte de ver a Steve y su banda en mi ciudad de Calgary en el año 2017 en un pequeño teatro. Uno de los momentos más impactantes de mi vida!
Steven's voice is so damn expressive. He doesn't have much range but he doesn't need it. Imagine his singing if he have at least 70% of Freddie Mercury's range. Every creature on Earth will shed tears at the same time.
He said in one of the interview that he hate oversinging and I'm 100% with him on that. The tragedy of lots of potentially good singers with wide vocal range is that they feel obliged to demostrate it as often as possible instead of using it to serve the songs.
I remember watching the reactions of everyone in the soundboard when I saw them at the Belly Up and they performed this song. Ive never seen a group of people in the soundboard look so intently on the performance , like they were watching some unknown manifestation of Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc perform.
The works of a composers lives from the gaze that is given to it. It is not limited to what it is, nor to the one who produced it, it is also made by the one who hears it. I never thought anyone would be even close to filling Guthrie's shoes. Dave impressed me beyond belief. I still love Guthrie, but Dave serves the band as well. Guthrie has a grittier sound with his leads and more chime with his clean tones. It's all in the picking. Dave has a more modern sound. I've seen Steve many times, through all of his lineup changes, and I can say that they have all impressed me. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't sound right without Marco's drumming. Gavin played on the first album and I think he would be able to give us that effect, as well. I've never been unimpressed or upset for any of his performances. Everyone that has played in this band is a substantial musician. For anyone who doesn't know, Steve has had Jordan Rudess, Tony Levin, Trey Gunn, Pat Mastelotto, Steve Hackett, Gavin Harrison and more on his albums.
I hear what your saying I think Craig the current drummer does an incredible job though. I don't know who else could possibly fill Marcos or Gavin's shoes and do it so well.
I remember Guthrie being asked in an interview if he had concerns about another guitarist playing his parts in Steven Wilson's band incorrectly. He said, "no, cos it's Dave". I actually saw Dave play with Guthrie at "music live" at the NEC in Birmingham UK over a decade ago, when Guthrie was promoting erotic cakes. Two masters who at the time were unsung. It's great to see both finally getting recognition for their amazing talent.
@@davidderoux7552 I mentioned Guthrie because the person that started the thread mentioned Guthrie. Read his paragraphs and mine will make sense to you.

The next show was in New York, and he had totally lost his voice. Luckily for us, Ninet was there, and sang seven or eight songs. Even David sang a couple. As Steven growled, a most memorable night.
Dadle una silla y un estudio de grabación, y no solo lo mejorará, sería un grandísimo solo. Mirad el solo de guitarra que hace Guthrie en esta misma canción en directo, año 2013, y no es ni parecido al de la grabación original.
Kilminster is a better guitarist, in my opinion. Regret #9 is the finest guitar solo I have ever seen live..... including Hackett, Gilmore etc etc.....
I loved the solo but it didn’t create the same tension and release as I hoped it would. It’s a great solo and Dave is a great player. He can improvise well, but if I were to rehearse or practice the solo for the song with my own improve I would practice how to build tension and release because it matches the same energy as the chord progression for that solo. That’s what makes that solo so great! Same example is Petrucci’s Best of times solo. Tension and release! Build up and match the same energy as the progression. And resolve gracefully.
Guthrie is a technical behemoth, but I don't know... I just feel like Dave fits better in the band and specially on Steven's musical offering. He sounds more vintage, more 70's.
I can't speak for the recordings but as a live guitarist , i do feel he fits in better as GG's solo's live are completely different from the studio versions and don't completely fit in.
I agree that Dave does sound vintage, but I also think that despite Guthrie being a technical genius, he is still capable of adapting into any type of style. Drive Home is a great example.
This Tom Anderson guitar sounds so good! Also when I heard the band live in Sofia, Bulgaria. Definitely preferred it over Kilminster's Les Paul. I know, it's a matter of taste and the choice of guitar depends on the particular song.

+Tasos Trellopoulos I did get you wrong, so my apologies. Was an overreaction, given my having seen so damn many tired and ridiculous complaints about "fuck, those new guys aren't Marco and Guthrie"... which is literally true, obviously, but IMO it's irrelevant hero worship. Craig and Dave are great players, and simply bring something DIFFERENT to Steven's music. That being said - yes, I agree Guthrie's solos are nothing short of amazing. I've watched the video (repeatedly, 'cause I can't get enough) of him studio-recording the solo in Regret #9, and it's mindblowing! Should note, though, that he always improvises those solos, as does Dave... so kudos to both for walking that tightrope, and always killing it. :)
