so, I believe the "dip" is probably similar to US fruit wax. Adding sweetners is ABSOLUTELY something the US does to literally everything. I dont see why a pack of Beef jerky should have more/the same amount of sugar as a can of soda.
The cardboard thing is bad... but im wondering where the actual connection is. Is it that people eat beef flavored cardboard? or is cardboard being used as a filler? thats something thats happened forever. Romans had penalties for bakers who used sawdust in their bread for a reason: people cut corners. In any processed food youre bound to find wood fiber as a filler.
I assume based on the lack of any context or knowledge on the replacement... the "fake donkey meat" is probably because donkey meat has some importance culturally or in a certain dish... but is clearly not able to be produced to demand. Thus I assume its replacement is either something similar like horse or mule, or is something basic like pork. We also see that in the west where people couldnt get/affford veal so they use pork or even regular beef pounded thinner. to make cutlets. This also probably applies to sea cucumber. the scale of chinas population is outweighing its ability to provide those culturally niche/desirable foods.

we recently had a scandal with squeezable cinnamon flavored applesauce, primarily eaten by infants and children, having been tainted with lead. the cinnamon supplier purposely added lead, and was known to do food adulteration well before this recent scandal. so cinnamon flavored applesauce was recalled, and even cheap ground cinnamon was recalled, as much of it came from the same supplier. tons of kids were affected. it reminds me of the melamine milk scandal in china from over a decade ago. so these things do happen in america unfortunately.

Chinese goods are not allowed to return back to their home port until they have offloaded the goods they are carrying. So the barges will literally keep trying various ports in the US until they get in. The inspectors cant catch them every single time, so when one port rejects them, they just go to another port.
