People that don't put Mario 64 on the same level as Galaxy and Sunshine because of things like graphics are smooth brains. The levels are nice and short and they don't waste your time and just get to the point unlike so many other games these days. Buy a modern version of the 64 controller and literally all the complaints about 64's "tank controls" go out the window. The blocky graphics have a certain charm to them if you can appreciate it, just like PS1 graphics.
Finally. A good take. Galaxy and Sunshine are solid but very overrated. Neither hold a candle to 64, SMB3, or SMW.

To be fair, MK8D kind of does in the sense that you can carry two items at once again and double blocks made a return, which, honestly, do you need more than that? The only other reason to have two characters in the same kart besides that was the special items the characters could get, but that was extremely unbalanced, which is not only an issue that's difficult to avoid, it's pretty impractical to implement with a roster as big as what we're used to seeing now compared to back then.
@@damir_van_kalaz We can just leave the Special item mechanic in Tour, where the game is already unbalanced since specific characters, usually event characters, perform better statistically and gain extra item slots on different cups.

Sorry, but Joe actually got it right for once: Galaxy is peak S-tier Mario and it took a giant heaving dump all over Sunshine despite the fact that Sunshine was great.

The odyssey section is so accurate. Everyone agrees that it’s really good but usually say that one of the others is better. We just can’t agree which one it is.

I got chills while typing this cause all the matio platformers I like. Probably the ones I don't like would be Super Mario Bros 1 & 2 on the NES.
I think Oddysey is the best 3d mario.
Galaxy is fun, but it's pretty linear. It plays like a 3d version of one of the 2d games, which isn't bad, but it almost puts it in its own category.
And Sunshine was great, but there were definitely moments where things didn't work quite right. Like the pinball machine star or the chucksters...
Oddysey took 64 and updated it to modern standards. The control options they gave Mario make it feel great to move around. And the variety and coherency in the levels really made it feel like you were traveling to different kingdoms.

Super Mario Bros 3 is the first time I’ve watched them agree on something collectively (Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are SS tier, imo)
I’m no US president, but SMB3 is S-tier though (or double S-tier as this dubious tier system suggests)

I can't believe they didn't bring up the fact that when the Mario Party was released, they eventually had to include a glove in the game because using the palm of your hand to rotate the stick on the N64 control broke the skin on your palm. A game that literally hurts you and even if you set it to the minimum 20 turns, it takes forever to play. It's F tier for me.
