    We've all heard the song hundreds of times. Doesn't change the fact that he has one of the best voices in pop music history. Also I believe he was the first black person to have his own network TV show.

    Nat King Cole was the definition of smooth. The man’s voice was just one of a kind. The annunciation, the orchestration, the feeing is almost non-existent today. Highly recommend his song Unforgettable, it is……unforgettable. 💐👌

    I hope you WILL react to more of Cole's music. PLEASE, though, be sure to include some of his piano as well as his singing. He was one of the best of the best in jazz piano. He had a unique style which kind of matches his vocal style: simple, clean, every note distinct from the others, fluid, relaxed -- just stellar!

  • @jeffdetmer4681

    The song was written in 1944. One of the cowriters was the great singer Mel Torme who was nicknamed The Velvet Fog. The King Cole Trio recorded it in 1946 and then rerecorded it with better orchestration etc. Some of my faves of NKC are Mona Lisa and Lazy days of Summer. His daughter was Natalie Cole who had a brilliant career as a singer as well.

    Very true about that era of singers and vocalists ... that style no longer a prominent popular modern art-form as it was back then. Truly classic & special.
    Nats famous recording just celebrated its 70th year Anniversary this past. December.
    I shared a post about that on social media just last month. That's 70 years of Nat King Cole's voice making countless millions of people's holidays extra special.

    It's so nice to see younger people like you being aware of some of the beautiful classic music that was out before you were born. Just wonderful to hear a beautifully sung melody, with no artifice, hystrionics, shooting flames, dance moves, and whatever else you can think of. Did you know Nat King Cole sang, but he actually was a pianist. Beautiful music you don't find much of today. (Give credit to Mel Torme who actually wrote the song.) Thanks much! :)

    • @dougoverhoff7568
      @dougoverhoff7568 2 года назад

      Yes, he was the pianist in a combo, when one evening the vocalist failed to show, and it became incumbent on another member to do the vocals. Of course, it was then Nat who took on that duty, but never having considered himself as a singer, believe it or not. Thank goodness that original singer failed to show that evening. The rest is music history.

      @@christopheryochum3602 Yep, hard to believe that Nat didn't think of himself as a singer. Yet, he had one of the smoothest, best, most effortless natural singing voices ever. He's always been one of my favorites. What a voice!

    • @christopheryochum3602
      @christopheryochum3602 2 года назад +1

      @@dougoverhoff7568 And he sang the song. He didn't embellish the melody to call attention to himself, which seems to be the case in today's talent-competition age. Good musician, smooth singer (as you said), and a gentleman. There is only one person I know of on a recent competition show who adhered to this "sing the song" philosophy; but many of the people from when I was a kid did just sing the song. This is why it's nice when these kids today listen and appreciate people who were big acts before these kids were born. Very refreshing conversation! Thanks!

    • @dougoverhoff7568
      @dougoverhoff7568 2 года назад

      @@christopheryochum3602 It's what I call "raw talent", and Nat had it in spades. I was just listening to some Karen Carpenter, whose voice and talent I feel is up in the same 'ionosphere' with Nat's. They had more talent in their little fingers than some of these so-called "stars" of today. Timeless!
      Peace!

    What a great singer, and even more, he was a wonderful man. My parents used to have all of his records in the 50s and 60s, and that's how I know him. I'm a Rock and Roll guy, but this man's voice is so unique, and smooth. He died of lung cancer around the late 60s or early 1970s. His daughter is Natalie Cole (named after daddy) and she won a couple of Grammy Awards in the 1980s. She must have gotten her dad's singing genes.

    according to mel torme, the song was written in july during a very hot summer while trying to 'stay cool by thinking cool'. torme saw a pad on his bob wells' piano with the lines 'chestnuts roasting, jack frost nipping, yuletide carols, folks dressed up like eskimos.' wells said maybe if he could think about cold things he could cool off. (remember, guys, this was a time when having a.c. was almost unheard of.) anyway, torme thought it had the makings of a great christmas song, so he encouraged wells to finish it, torme himself contributed a few lyrics, torme wrote the tune, and the most recorded and played christmas song ever (according to some statistics) was born. torme himself even recorded it, but even though he had a hand in its inception, i think absolutely nothing ever can compare to this nat king cole version.

    T, I think one of the reasons why I’ve become so engrossed with reaction videos is because I get to watch people, especially younger generations, discover music that I’ve taken for granted. Nat “King” Cole is a classic and a legend. I am a lover of music. I’ve been taught to appreciate all types of music. In high school, my choral teacher taught us to appreciate the different genres of music. We sang commercial jingles, Negro spirituals and a little bit of everything in between. It certainly was one of the best times in my life. I loved your reaction to this video. I told Tasha that I’m gonna sit in on some of your heavy-metal stuff and see if I can grasp it!
