- Hello,
This video is about calculating your string size.
The number of panels that you need to connect in a string to get optimum power from the inverter.
Depending upon your location, module & inverter.

For any doubt or details.
Simple and Well Explained. Just one small addition from my side. 21 Modules will make max V = 21 * 49.23V = 1033.83 V and to keep it in MPPT range the max number of the modules should be limited to 20 Nos. i.e. max. V = 20 * 49.23V = 984.6 V
Yes, correct.
Extreme heat will affect minimum string size, though, and you may want to check that your minimum string size still falls within the MPP range for optimal efficiency. To do that, you follow the same calculations as above, but you need to use different values:
Use the panel Vmp in place of Voc.
Use the panel Temperature Coefficient of Pmax in place of Temperature Coefficient of Voc.
When it comes to calculating the true voltage of the panel, subtract the voltage compensation from the panel Vmp (instead of adding it to the panel Voc).
@@electrical-sajid Thanks
Yes correct, I was pointing out the same.
One doubt actually that why we are taking temperature coefficient of Power instead of voltage ?
I don't know if anybody sees my comment. By following this discussion I did calculations again. The panels range is 8-20 to keep values in MPPT range. Did I get the correct answer?
You explained Entire RUclips 🎉
Explained well but just had mistake in summer and winter voltage range calculation you swapped the voltages differently in two slides.
This is what I was looking for and stumbled upon your video, Excellent Bro, Keep it up.
Glad it helped
Sajid you have explained the string in a easy way, keep it up. kindly also
explain the 8 input vs 4 Mppt tracker in SUN2000-30KTL-M3
Great job of explaining this concept.
Great Presentation. Thank you

Well explained.
Good explanation.👌Keep it up.
Well explained
Bahut Badhiya sir ji
great effort
Very well explained, thanks!
very good information sir you gave
That's fine. But I will also suggest you to make a video on selecting the PV array size i.e how many cells should be connected per string per module and how many parallel strings need to be connected per cell?
Thanks this helped me with the uneven panels and strings going to the mpp trackers in the inverter
This is great.
Are you planning to do a sample project from scratch which covers client requirements, what questions to ask as a designer and how to do sizing of everything, including, panels and wires and voltage drops etc, and codes to follow for the USA, if not the USA then also it's fine? Sorry if I asked too much :).
Very informative. Thanks
Excellent...
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 Nice Nice 👍👍👍👍
That was really helpful, thank you for sharing. Please keep up the good work.
Thankyou
Nice your video
Good Video. Greeting from Angola, Lobito.
Simple and well Explained
Thank u, very well explanied
For minimum no. Of modules we take Vmpp in consideration, so (at 7.42 time) minimum voltage in summer should be calculated using Vmpp with temperature coefficient formula.
Nice👍, can you plz also explain Ooper & Aluminium AC wire selection for different inverters like 50ka , 80kw & bigger. How much cable size we can use for these bigger inverter.
Thanks a lot dear.....
Why did you round off upwards in some cases and round off downwards in other cases? i.e. the max and min number of panels as well as with the max and min voltage in summer and winter? should we consider this criteria a rule of thumb that should always be adhered to?
You're a rock star

Thanks for your sharing. but my opinion we also have to considering the max. power per MPPT to sizing the string of PV Module. During clarification with Huawei, they inform if MPPT have limitation of power.
Ofcourse
Thank you
U r doing great buddy
Thank you kindly check other videos as well.
You addressed how to calculate the number of panels for a series. Can you show how to calculate that for strings that are parallel ? ... I used this video to calculate how many panels for the Sol-Ark 12K-P inverter using SILFAB - SIL-490-HN panels. I get minimum 3 and maximum 8 panels per string. I need a total of 20 panels so have to use parallel strings. How can I calculate that using your formulas ??? Thanks enjoyed your video. Kurt
Very informative video. Greeting from Angola, Lobito.
Hi I have seen in a case for the maximum temperature didn't use Voc but vmp of the panel what's the difference?
Beautiful
sir great Mashallah great explaination sir kindly how we can consider DC cables size ,AC cable size let suppose our project is 1MW , from inverter to laod distance is 500 ft what will be dc and ac cables are se
I have made separate videos for ac and dc cables
nice
Sir , Good Expalined.
I have some doubt ,Please clarify.
1.Why we calculate max. no of string at max. system voltage not in MPPT max. voltage?
2. Why we consider module data of STC not NOCT?
I'm sure he said something important
where did you get STCtemp value which you said was 25 because on the module data sheet is not there.
V GOOD
Nicely explained. Also pls tell us about current matching of panel and inverter.I am finding suitable inverter for 595W 18.42 Amps Canadian Solar Panel.l for 8KW 3 Phase On Grid System. Can you pls suggest suitable inverter model?
Yes I will share by today evening
Why the subtraction sign of temp. Coff. Of Voc is not taken in consideration ?
Sir I am new in solar
I want to do solar
I watch a lot of video
And I have 10 panels and battery 48v and inverter but I can not figuring out how to make the strings to come close to max preform
Can you give me some advice when I provide the data
The video is nice but for me a little bit to fast to follow 😉
I looking at getting a Growatt MIN 4200 TL-XE Single Phase Solar PV Inverter 2 MPPT for a 3.69 kW solar array (9 panels at 410W each). If I had 2 strings with one string having 4 panels (150.4Vmp) and the other having 5 (188 Vmp), would I lose the wattage from that additional 5th panel of that string or do the 2 mppt scale it so that I still utilise the whole solar array wattage. Great vid btw.
You will not loose the power as it is in different MPPT
For the maximum number of modules calculation, I saw a research paper where one factor was used that at the time of morning, the temperature is lower but the radiation is Also lower (keeping wind velocity and other factors constant) , so the string will not active it's maximum open circuit voltage and thus the maximum number of modules they had increased. I'm not sure about the credibility of that paper but I have calculations where they've calculated Voc at different radiation levels.
Let me know if you have anything related to it, Also let me know your mail ID so that I can share the calculations so that we can discuss further.
And about current Sir?
Nice ...what is the STC temp , from where we can get this as 25 in your example.
Stc is mentioned on the solar panel datasheet. It means standard test condition.
@@electrical-sajid Ok Sir Thank you
Please clarify is it the maximum size of 21 of array or string? I mean for the same inverter is it ok to have two strings each of 21 in parallel?
That you need to check on inverter datasheet. Either you can connect two strings or first connect 2 string in parallel and connect to 1 string input of inverter. Check the per MPPT or input current for the inverter on datasheet
Sajid, I need one query if I make 1Mw solar substation... First I decide the invertor size then only I plan to arrange the string... How I will go through.. Could u suggest me the way of designing Sajid
First you decide the plant capacity (DC) then you choose the inverter depending upon the required size and number of MPPT. Then as per input voltage of the inverter you select the size of the string.
waiting for your 1Mw SLD design Video sir
Very soon
an we give 26A on each string of MPPT ?
U mean string in series the panels
Bhai your knowledge is perfect no doubt, but do it in Hindi as your English is not so fluent as English men. wish you best luck
Dear please reply if possible dear I want to install 30kw solar system using same huawe inverter of 36 kW than how will be my string arrangement using 455w mono perc half cut solar panels having same voltage and temperature as your please reply
I am currently busy. I will reply you tmw.
@@electrical-sajid OK dear , dear according to your panel the maximum number of panel we connect to this inverter are 160 panel because there are four mppt input and every mppt can support 22 A it means every mppt support 40 panel 20 ,20 panel in parallel for one mppt input ,dear I am right or wrong please reply
Dear waiting for your responce
Sir do not worry,
Send me your inverter and solar panel datasheet in mail I will tell you exactly.
For simplicity, if your inverter maximum dc input voltage is 1500V then you should go for 3 nos x 22 panel string.
If your inverter is 1100V
Then go for
2x16 panel string
2x18 panel string.
This explains everything EXCEPT calculating the number of panels -__- Bro, we don't want "ranges" we want an example of an actual sizing procedure.
There are no fix number of panels brother. It depends upon your input dc voltage of your inverter. Ex. If your max. Input voltage is 1000V for inverter, and MPPT range is between 400V to 850V then you must try to keep your voltage within this range.
Ex. One panel voltage Voc is 54V, you can plan around 16 -18nos of panels per string.
So i have a question. If my inverter has 9 MPPT and 18 inputs. I have maintained the string voltage range according to the inverter data sheet range, How many strings can i insert into the Inverter based on my MPPT inputs. (My max input current per MPPT is 26A and Max Short circuit current per MPPT is 40A). Please explain.
You cannot go beyond 26A per MPPT. I have not seen any inverter with 18inputs and 9MPPT, if there is pls share the make and model number.
Just note you cannot more than 26A in MPPT
@@electrical-sajid Correction. I have just realized that i misconceited the inverter data. As it stands I have a choice of (12/14/16) MPPT Individual inputs with 2 input connectors for each MPPT input. With max PV input current of (40A/30A/30A) Respectively. So what i understood from your explanation is that i should not exceed the 40A input for each MPPT. (or) Should i not Exceed 40A input for the overall Inverter?
@@riyazahamad1316 Inverters nowadays have the ability to clip the current of solar panels if it exceeded the pv input and short circuit current.... though the panels will underperform
@@riyazahamad1316 Do not exceed the inverter pv input and short circuit current max values if you are designing a string per mppt
Can i ask u a question!😊
yes?
Can you offer excel
i have 8 panels, each panel rated (540w,13Amp,49voc), if I make 2 strings, (4+4) so each string will have 4 panels with 196voc+13Amp, after i connect both strings together before i connect them to inverter...what will be my total given voc and Amps to inverter....will it stay 196voc 13Amps or this value will get double????
Thank you sir
If you connect the panels by the connectors itself then it will
Double voltage and same current.
But you combine in DCDB Or by using cascade connector it will be same voltage and double current
@@electrical-sajid
let me be more clear, I got 2 strings, each string got, 149voc+13Amps.... before I wired them to my inverter I have to connect both strings together...Positive wire from string No, 1, to positve wire of string No,2 and negative wire of string No,1 to negative wire of string No,2....after I am done with this, now I am ready to connect my inverter....I am curious here...wether the voc will change or Amps will change...U said the voc will stay the same and Amps will get double am I right sir????
@@mybirds8671 It means you are connecting them in parallel, so in parallel voltage will be the same and current will add up.
Hello sir
Ji
Why you have not considered value of Vmp for the minimum voltage at maximum temperature. For maximum voltage at minimum temperature it;s ok but at higher side calculation of voltage did not take value of Vmp & power coefficient factor. Plz correct it.
It's correct kindly re watch
Sir wanted to discuss strings made with the help of your video, can you share your contact
