Sidepipes were common on this era...doesnt need a hellcat engine to "have something". 401s can make huge power NA with not too much.
Beauty of these old beasts is they are simple durable and easy to work on.
Ck out the one on Autotopiala channel. 600 plus NA driveable 401

@@IfThisCarCouldTalk Same here. Putting some late model off brand engine in to this car is a step backwards. Why complicate a car like this? Part of thier charm is they are simple, durable easy to work on.
Too many people out there have no idea you can make tons of power with old school NA power. Sure it would be fast but I wouldnt consider buying it if I was in the market

Thats gotta be the slickest 74 Ive seen! Great day 2 looking mods too.
All ya need are some chrome Lakewood traction bars!
The ducktail on the roof looks fantastic, bet its functional and helps keep the rear window a little cleaner. The sidepipes work on this AMX, not many cars look good with them.
Another great styling cue is that hood, similar to the 69 Z/28. Would be cool to see a cold air setup...there are simple air cleaner pans out there that will pull cold air from the rear cowl area.

Wow, beautiful AMX. in '74 I ordered a Javelin from my local AMC dealer in Northern NJ where I lived. Due to the recent gas shortage scares, I ordered the 304 CID 2BBL. But I added the 12 bolt Dana Posi rear, 3 speed stick- 4 speed wasn't available in the 304. Anyway, I bought the AMX rear wing, had AMC paint it the same dark metallic blue as the car, I mounted the airfoil on the trunk myself, as soon as the warrantee was expired, I bought a Hurst 3 speed shifters and changed out the AMC unit- their linkage was very sloppy requiring a nylon piece to keep the linkage in alignment- I broke 3 or 4 drag racing on the street, so- new Hurst and linkage. I also learned the 401 CID dual exhaust system was a direct fit to the 304 so I pulled the 304 single exhaust and installed the 401 dual exhaust system with a pair of " Hush" Thrush mufflers. I'd ordered a pair of Appliance brushed aluminum Astro- type mags for the rear with wide Sonic G- 60 14" tires and I bought a set of Mopar Rallye type factory mags for the front running Sonic
F- 70 14" tires. The cool thing about AMC was Ford and Mopar, both- at that time- had bolt patterns that matched AMC's so you had a lot of options for aftermarket mag wheels. I sold the c car in 1976 and have often regretted it. I love your AMX guys, it's a Gem....

I owned a Jolly Green 1972 Javelin AMX 401 stick, from new till 1986.
It was traded with 175,000+ well maintained original engine and clutch. Best car I have ever owned.
I traded my 428cj Mach 1, Mustang for the Javelin. Even though it was a tad slower to 60, it handled and stopped waaaay better. And a bit easier on gas (12mpg vs the Stang's 9mpg). In general, it was an all around more fun to drive.

Always loved Javelins, but the original AMX wheel size made a beautiful design seem dis-proportioned. You've done ALL the right things to make the stance, wheel presence, rake and the body lines work perfectly, including the side-pipes which fill out the bottom and give it that beefier look. The Hot Wheels colour makes it pop!... and the rims are wickedly cool for a resto mod with a nod to the classic Cragars. Congrats on a gorgeous specimen of an underappreciated, curvy road monster!

@@IfThisCarCouldTalk You're welcome. I grew up with AMC cars. My Grandfather was a Nash Rambler man. As a toddler, the first muscle car I saw and touched was a Javelin my mother test drove at the AMC dealership my Grandfather purchased his cars. My Grandfather was loaned a Pacer when they hit the showrooms while his Ambassador was in the shop. Everyone on our street came to see this new odd looking car. Lots of good AMC memories.
