I bought an ultra tour 2.0 one year ago and I tried several setups. First I put some lead tape at 12 o clock but it didn't feel stable enough for me. So I decided to weight this up pretty heavily. I injected silicone in the handle and put a little bit of lead tape behind the trap door (in total 15 gram) and I put lead tape at 12 o clock and at 3 and 9 (in total 8 grams). The stability was perfect and the power I got was really good(not the same power as you get from a pure drive or something like that but just power because of the mass) I stickied with that setup for a few months but as I play on clay court and the you sometimes have to react quickly it was I little bit too head heavy and too heavy for my wrist. So then I pulled off the lead tape in the head and put some new one (4gram) at 2 and 10 and also put a few more gram right on the handle. So I ended up with a total weight of 354 g strung with a dampner and an overgrip. And I have to say that this just plays perfectly. The stability is really good and the racket doesn't twist in my hands when I hit off center shots. The power I get is really good if you swing it properly but still it feels manouverble and has a quite whippy feel. I am using Babolat rpm blast at 24 kg which still gives me good spin when I really try to hit with spin. ( I am 19 years old). I hope I could help you :)

I have one question: when you took off lead tape from the head, you mean you took off all the lead from 12, 9 and 3 oclock? And then how much did you add to 2 and 10 oclock? Thanks for sharing!

    • @youngsuit
      @youngsuit 2 года назад

i tried the 2g @ 12, 3, & 9 combo, but then my backhand swing was off. I don't know if I needed to counter weight it better but I would end up wristing it more and swinging under the shoulder rather than over. for reference my "go-to" racquet is a prince graphite oversize with weight on it, so it's not that it's too heavy for me, it's just "off" for me.
where on the handle did you put the counterweight?

I switched from this UT with similar lead setup to the vcore 95. Softer, little bit less control but with more pop. Has to be leaded though similar to this video. At first I didn't like it but then I leaded it and it grew on me.

  • @mellis9729

Great video as always. In response to the question: Matt...your setup is control overkill brother. You have 1. a control oriented racket, 2. a control oriented string, and 3. a fairly control oriented tension. If you go down the list of the top maybe 100 ATP pros and look for those using control racket with all polyester setup and an 18x20 pattern, the list might be 0 players. I don't know any. Djokovic for example uses a control oriented frame, has an 18x20 pattern and does use poly but its a gut poly hybrid. The gut gives him some power that you won't have with an all Luxilon stringjob. My recommendation in addition to adding weight to the frame, go with a higher powered string setup: Either gut poly hybrid or if gut is too expensive, a synth gut or multifilament mixed with the poly. Other alternative would be significantly drop your string tension on the Luxilon to maybe 46 ish. Maybe lower. If pros cant handle your setup, at 17 years old I doubt you can and it might actually lead to injury if trying to overcompensate to get power.

  • @FW_Tennis_Channel

What I did to my Ultra Tour is I added a leather grip and then put some lead on 3&9 it turn out really nice and stable. I also had another one in which I put a strip of the thinner lead tape on the whole length of the bumper on top. Both work great, of course the one with the lead on top had a higher swing weight but funny enough both were around 345g strung. I personally wished they made the racquet more head heavy so that I didn't need to add as much weight to the head of the racquet since I personally like my racquets to be around 330-335g strung with a high swing weight. Still a good racquet, not as spin friendly and powerful as a H22, can't compare to a H19 since I don't have one. Overall a nice classic racquet in a modern paintjob.

This is the best channel i've seen so far.
I have a question maybe you can help me. I used to be a good tennis player maybe you can say a pro player (376 ATP Rank in 2017, and 18 y.o) in the same year I had a tournament in Rome Italy, but i couldn't make it because i had a very bad car accident. I was in coma for about three months. After that i slowly recovered because i couldn't feel my legs for almost one year. Now I am much better physically and mentally but i have a problem. I used to play with a custom Wilson pro stock Rf97 95 sq.in 361g strung and swingweight 355. But unfortunately i can't play with that racket anymore. I tried changing the specs but couldn't get back the feeling, and it started hurting my elbow. So i started trying new rackets. A lot of them. Now i play with a Babolat pro stock pure strike 16X19 project One7 paint, 311g unstrung 332 sw. I felt in love with this racket, but is not very stable yet. Any tips on how can I improve that without messing too much the specs. I use to string my old racket with wilson champion choice.
Maybe you recommend me another racket to try out or some customization tips. I am coaching now and playing local tournaments, but i will start my old routine as soon as I get my gear done. I am from Romania.
    Thank you!

Just bought one of these (v.2) online for $100. I modified almost as you suggest. You cannot put silicone on the handle because it already has foam in the handle. I ended up removing a bit of the lead at 10/2 locations and strung it with a full bed of 18 gauge poly at 48lbs and it works pretty well. My only complaint is launch angle is lower than I'd like, so I have to "work" to shape the launch angle. Is there a butt cap I can add that would extend length just a litle bit (1/4")?

i want to double down on the advice given in the video here: make one modification, test it out, and then decide if you like it. i've made a lot of mistakes with my racquet modifications over the years and i hope other people can avoid my mistakes:
    - i counterweighted by putting at the top of the grip (where the electrical tape goes on the leather grip) instead of at the bottom. my serve was huge but i had horrible maneuverability from so much damn weight
    - i would hit harder and harder in drills with more weight, so i had confidence with a ridiculous amount of lead tape, but then in a match i would be slow on the takeback for returns, volleys, and unpredictable points. i overdid it for years with a nearly 14 ounce wilson prostaff 6.0
    - adding weight to extended length racquets - this is really hard to get right. the length adds so much swingweight already, so you've got to be extra careful with this
    - not counterweighting like he does in the video - i would think, "well, it already feels heavier, why would I add MORE weight?" - give it a shot though. i added weight over the leather grip like he does in this video and my backhand just cleaned up. there's something about having the weight of the racquet in the handle that prevents it from "flicking over" and so when i went from 2 grams at 12 and 2 grams on the handle to 2 grams at 10 & 2 each, with the same handle, everything went off. but today i added another 2 grams to the handle and everything went back to how i wanted the backhand to go again.

I think he should first drop the string tension down to a 22 kg. That will make the sweet spot bigger, give more spin and power.
Stringing it higher just for durability is the wrong reason. If he wants to lower his cost, choose a different string like a solinco tour bite or so. I think the high tension alu power is actually keeping this racket back from its full potential

This also happened with the serve, but since switching to the racket not only am I more consistent but also get easier power and spin.i don’t have to put as much racket head spread and whip my wrist to get the power I used to. I hope thus helped let me know if you need me to explain more. I will make the adjustments then tell you if it’s worth it, but leaving the racket untouched it is worth it. ( you will get fatigued the first day of practice with the v3 as it his heavier)

Some racquets are foam filled, as that is a final finishing step at the wilson plant to bring the racquet into its balance. Some are so off at the plant the actually use silicone to final balance it. One can always dig the final balance foam/silicone out and use their own for re-weighting +-.

I tried 4g at 3/9 didnt change anything. Will try at 12, maybe by raising the sweetspot it will improve. Its still a good racquet with dampener, but I just hate losing that feel lol. Thanks a lot!

I have the same vibration feel just like yours. Have tried many ways to customize my UT, at one point even weighted up to 12.6 ounces.. somehow I still feel vibrating unless I hit right on the sweet spot. Wonder if you found out your way? Thx

From any brand nowadays you will never find a SW over 340 in any of the current retail racquets.

Soo I added a leather grip and overgrip, strung it with yonex poly tour spin black. I tried measuring the swing weight with the tennis warehouse method and got 370, I've tested 3 times. Maybe I'm wrong but then I measured my newer prestige pro and got 340 just like in this video. By the way the wilso. Ultra tour 95 is Kei nishikori endorsed racquet check it out. It's a pretty stiff 95 27.25 inches length raquet. Mine with the overgrip/leather/10grams of putty in the handle = 357 grams.

@@msalvs exactly that, but maybe they measured without strings? I mean the prestige pro is supposed to be 327 SW not 340.

david tran cut it to required size, stick it where you want to add weight to the racquet, ensure you don’t lick the lease tape and wash our hands after handling it, there’s not much else to it...

Leather grip, about 5" of lead at 3 and 9. Hyper G 19 at 40 lbs was amazing, but for only about 5 hours. TourBite Soft 18 in the mains and Hyper G 19 in the crosses at 38 was ok, but meh. Confidential 16L at 30 lbs is *really* nice. I, too, just bought several of these. Very similar, to me, to the Tecnifibre 315 LTD.

Without even waiting to hear the rest of this review....I have a 3.0 ultra pro demo arriving early next week.
The 3.0 ultra pro (97sq") and tour(95sq") aren't in the US yet is all.
The tour is the Kei Nishikori endorsed stick and is stiff (69RA) and 27.25".
The pro is soft and a standard length and is only 305g (I think) unstrung, so likely designed for a little customisation.
Weird these aren't in US yet, but have been out for close to a month. Perhaps there's issues given stock comes from China!
    Cheers.

that suggestion is not enough. The Ultra tour for my taste is too head light, I use more weight towards the tip to get more plough through
I haven't added any weight at the bottom. The overgrip and eventually the dampener counteracts the weight you suggesting not to through it off
