As someone who still lives in nyc (Bronx) I find it hard to enjoy the parts that make me….me. A lot of who I am stems from where I come from but I don’t see the joy of it because of the dangerous area I am in…. It almost feels like there is no way out yet. However, watching your video inspired me to work as hard as I can do that I can look back and cherish where I come from. ❤️❤️❤️

This video gave me all kind of feels as a native New Yorker. Mama Nildal's story about watching the naked man, we experienced that in Spanish Harlem, We didnt have much, but were happy. And I went to Seward Parkl HS on the lower East Side! The footage of the projects made me homesick. NY pizza and iceys! i now live next door to Puerto Rico in the Virgin Islands. But I will always be that girl from Spanish Harlem and the Lower East Side. #NYpizza #Sewardparkhigh school. Thank you Claude!!!

So can relate to your upbringing. Until the age of 10, I lived in the projects in East Harlem; then my mom got a Brownstone on 120th St.; went to elementary school by the FDR. At the age of 13, I wanted to experience living with my grandmother who lived in the Bronx on 180th Street/Bathgate Avenue; then for High School went back with my Mom to attend Norman Thomas HS on 33rd Street. I frequently remember those days and am thankful that we never felt the lack of anything; our community was our world. Like Mama Nilda said: it's not about money; happiness is not money. We learned to appreciate what we had and when we had more, we were so grateful. I now pass down the stories to my son who will share with his child. Each generation sharing what is important in life: God and Family!!!

Hiiii, yay I'm earlyyy. I just wanted to thank you for sharing and starting your RUclips channel. It brings me comfort and peace. And it also helped me with some self acceptance. You have no idea when you and Gerd share how you do things differently, I feel less alone. I'm in a community where doing things differently comes with a price (well maybe it's everywhere), and you have to be strong when being different. Or else you will cave and be like everybody, and there is when authenticity dies. And I've been struggling of keeping my authenticity alive. But when I see your videos, it sparks back life. So, again I wanted to just thank you for sharing, it truly helps.

Your show is so timely in our great big world! I love how you walk back thru time, revealing your family history ....teaching your children that the greatest life is one "lived". " Lived" wherever you were be planted with a family that genuinely loves each other, celebrated every moment of life in your way and no one knew or thought they were being deprived of anything. Even in your present season of greater blessings, you are not ashamed of where you came from, rather still celebrating your roots and giving praise to God for where he has taken you. The beautiful thing about this channel is that although Claudette lives in a luxurious beautiful home now, she makes me feel grateful to God for all that I have been given, though it was not "much". Happiness truly doesn't come from money, or beautiful houses and cars. Our perspective makes such materialistic things beautiful, and memories of our family is what adds nostalgia to it. It really is beautiful to return to your childhood neighborhood to show your kids. Mine was torn down and genetrified and it hurts every time I pass by it. I can relate sometimes less is more and you learn how to appreciate what you got and make the best out of things.

It's so interesting to see the shock of Lana's face for some of these things that seem SO normal to me. LOL. No grass was not an issue. In the Bronx, the elementary school I went to did not have a football field haha. High School we did. I grew up in Norwood Bronx and Crown Height Brooklyn. Wouldn't change my foundation for anything. - SE

🥺 I could feel the nostalgia radiating from the screen as soon as I saw you guys driving down the Bruckner in The BX. Agree with all that you said about the stereotype misconceptions of the “inner city” - we may not have had much, but we were “rich” in countless other ways. I too think back on my childhood in The Bronx with fond memories & go home with my kids (I’m out on LI now, so far but not too far). I rep uptown-UPTOWN 😆 (from 233 to Gunhill, 2 train) and Fordham side of the Zoo. Shout out to all my NYC kids who return home with fond nostalgia ❤️🥰

Another wonderful episode. I love how much you love where you came from, the joy and nostalgia was oozing through yours pores. I love that! I feel the same way. My husband and I grew up in the South Bronx, he in public housing and we feel the same way. People assume the worse, yet, I loved my community, our neighbors and had an amazing childhood and wonderful memories that will last me a lifetime. We would look out for one another and had such a sense of community.
I was laughing listening to Lana wonder where the volleyball courts and grass were. LOL! A lot of our schools look like yours, but I never felt like I was missing anything.
Always a pleasure watching your episodes. ❤

Love, Love, Love!! Always Love how down to earth and transparent you are. I was raised in Westchester County, but my parents grew up in the Bronx on Webster Ave & Also in Harlem. I just moved back to NY last year from NC. There’s no place like home 💕💕

The nostalgia of being where you grew up is wild. I bought my house 2 streets away from where we lived when I was in elementary. My daughter ended up going to school at the elementary school who's black top we use to hop our fence and play hide and seek in to confuse whoever was it. It was so weird looking at it from the other side as an adult.

    I loved this.
And mama nilda is correct, it’s not just about money bringing happiness, it’s about the little things, making happy moments for our children. They don’t know anything about money as children. I try so hard with my little girls to make the intention of always doing things together that truly makes them happy, and just pray that they remember these things when they are older. And hold onto it like I do now as an adult, my family immigrated to America with nothing, and I was born here right after they came here. I would have never in a million years known that we grew up without much at first. God bless you guys

My mom is from LES and my abuela still lives on ave D. When you stood at the window and said your abuela used to stand there and wave, it’s 100% what mine does and waves at us til we couldn’t see her anymore. And the “pools” lol that was over in my Abuela’s buildings too.
