Kudos to you. You’re a brave man buying this! Also much better job with the volume of the swishing, swallowing, and mouth sounds. Have a great weekend!
Brilliant review Mike, a pleasant easily accessible rye which is presented well. Far from a bottle to blow your mind it could be a great stepping stone down the whisky path. Cheers.
Thanks for the comment! I will add the sweetness is relative to those who drink straight ryes. Your perception of sweetness will depend on what you normally drink, cheers!!
Fans of "finished" whiskey, do your own. Use small sticks of your favorite wood, char it and put it into your favorite affordable whiskey for 4 weeks, filter it and enjoy. I use Evan Williams 100 as my base, about 28 to 30 grams (one ounce) of wood per bottle, my favorite woods are various types of oak, sugar maple, apple, cherry. It may not be better than an expensive finished whiskey but it will be unique! Just don't use any poisonous woods.
Dang, that's an interesting idea. My wife got me one of those small barrels and I was going to put wine in it for a while, then drain, and finish a whiskey in there. But I realized the barrel had a type of polyurethane seal on it so I ended up not doing it because I was afraid that would transfer flavor. but staving a bottled whiskey sounds kind of cool. Cheers
Keep in mind this isn’t STRAIGHT American Rye. This is just American rye. That means they can add sugar, wood flavor, artificial color and other crap. And they don’t have to tell you about it. This is basically a rye cocktail in a bottle for $90.
Good catch! I will say the FAQs page of their website says 'SirDavis is crafted using no additives or coloring including E15OA' and 'SirDavis goes through two rounds of aging. First, in American oak barrels, followed by a second maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks'. I've reached out to them to see if they'll tell me the age. I'll reply to this if they do.
@@michaelhite problem is information on a website doesn’t mean much. The legally binding information is on the bottle and packaging. Besides the government won’t check if there are additives because it isn’t a straight whiskey. And if they don’t add anything why don’t they call it a straight rye? Straight rye only has to be 2 years old
Straight Rye whiskey must be aged in new, charred oak for at least two years. It also can’t include any additives in terms of flavour or caramel colouring. After maturation, you’re only legally allowed to: blend a barrel of straight rye whiskey with other barrels of straight rye whiskey. This means that Sir Davis cannot be legally labelled a STRAIGHT RYE,but because it has been marketed and sold by L.V.M.H with the input and guidance by Professor Bill Lumsden,I doubt they would try selling a substandard product .It would tarnish their reputation. Just because it is endorsed by a celebrity ,does not necessarily mean that the product is somehow inferior or substandard. One may argue about the cost of the product, but it has been marketed as a luxury item and therefore will command a premium. As to flavour and palatability ,that is a personal subjective matter and the general public /consumers will decide whether this is a good or bad product.
Best review yet!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this bottle was one of the ones destroyed in the flood. Oh well!

Haha I bought it as a lark, but it was actually OK, though not a $90 whisky. Thanks!
@@michaelhite we just got it here in California. It will be interesting to see if anyone actually buys it.
I do expect most whiskey guys to avoid it.
@@michaelhite i do as well. Seth Currys bourbon is collecting dust at my local stores. I suspect a $90 eighty something proof rye will as well.
@@GLENBECKHAM So update, did people buy?

Thanks for that. $90 might stop if from being a stepping stone, we'll see if they hold firm on the price over time. Cheers!
I'm looking through reviews to decide on my purchase. Appreciate you being open and honest. Think I will try it - thanks!
Thanks for the comment. Hope you like it, cheers!
I don’t drink 🥃 whiskey but now you make me want to try it when you said it was sweet. I love sweet drinks 😂😂 thanks for sharing 🤎🤎🤎🤎

@@michaelhite I have been doing it for several years now. It is a fun hobby.
Nice, I'll have to think about how I'd like to go about it.
This isn’t Straight American Rye. This is America rye so this could be 1 year old or even younger

Another celebrity swill no one will buy
This bottle joins a long list of whiskeys that I bought for the channel. Having said that, it's not the worst whiskey I own.
