Good example of facing the wind and throwing remains. Though, I have to say, having ash lightly powder me would be an honor. One last hug from a loved one.
Thanks for making this video. My dad just passed away and I had no idea how to do this. He passed away too young. We want to scatter his ashes in the place where he loved to fly his RC planes.
The Freedom Theory I’m really sorry although I’m late.
@@magnus3333 I'm late to I aslo fell sorry😢
Thank you so much for making this video. After holding on to my big sister’s cremated remains for 27 years so far, I’ve come to the conclusion to return them to the universe but have no idea how and where in NYC.
Did she have a favorite spot in the NYC area? You might pick a place that would honor her passions.
@@GailRubin Thank you 🙏
I suppose as RUclips topics go it's a little unusual, but thank you so much for doing this. Answers a lot of questions, and your lightly-humorous touch is just right. Bet you are a much-sought-after celebrant!
why am i watching this
i need to study
I didn't exect to see a comment this relatable
I've been having my mother's ashes for over 13yrs. And I know I need to deal with her ashes soon. I just haven't figured it out yet smh.
You might check if one of your local cemeteries offers a free scatter day option. That way, you can have a permanent final resting place to visit her.
@@GailRubin Thank you so much I've made note of that info you've gave. And I appreciate it
@@empressnaja how do you did it?
I'm in the same boat, but came up with the answer - my video on that will be online tomorrow
Thank you Gail. We're off to our beach in Norfolk UK to scatter our darling Luce's (lurcher) ashes at 2pm today. She so loved the beach - which was here happy place. Mike x
Thank you, that was cool. We will scatter my father's ashes at a National Park in the near future. I learned some cool things: 1. use a trowel. 2. be aware wind direction. 3. SCATTER don't dump. 4. it's okay to grab the sterile ashes with a hand... I want to do that. 5. We can save some ashes to keep or scatter elsewhere. Thank you! Great to see what it's like from up there, I've wondered with the mountain near ABQ was like...
These are some great tips. I usually scatter in the ocean and find it a very spiritual event. Thanks for the Info.
Sandia: Spanish for watermelon. My mother passed 3 years ago and I've been planning to scatter her ashes at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National park. Thank you so very much for helping me make a good goodbye. I was able to say farewell before she passed.
I like how u could say some of my back yard is on the Grand Canyon 😂😂
Thanks! I'm trying to learn so one day I can scatter my ashes properly.
Thanks for All of your Fantastic Tips!
Gail! This video was incredibly helpful! I'm going to be spreading my grandmothers ashes on top of our local mountains tomorrow morning and didn't have a clue on how to do so. Thank you so much for making this video :).
Thank you Gail! I am planning to scatter my mothers remains on the Skyline Drive in Virginia, and was uncertain the best way to do so. She had a trowel she used to care for some flowers she kept in a planter box, will be perfect!
We will be scattering my Linda's ashes next weekend up at a location off Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain National Park so this tutorial is a great help but nothing can remove the pain and sorrow of having to do this. I love you Linda and always will and I'll see you one day and we'll dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Thankyou Gail. I have to do this tomorrow for my father and step mother. I'm doing it on my own and have been quite anxious about the it.
You've de mystified the experience for me which has been invaluable.
Thankyou again.
You can do it! Thank you for letting me know.
Thanks for the video, Gail! One more tip, before throwing ashes (or dirt or anything else) off of a mountain, be sure there is no one below!
I'm Sorry To Hear Excellent point!
How perfect! I've been on Skyline Drive many times. Should be beautiful!
I have always wanted to be cremated and have my ashes scattered over the sea. I had planned to do the same with my dad's ashes but was met with resistance from some family members. Now dad's ashes have been passed from my youngest son who had to migrate to europe to my eldest son who had passed last year during the height of the pandemic. My son's 45th birthday and 1st death anniversary is coming soon. Currently there are 2 urns in my daughter-in-law's house and I would really want to get my dad's ashes and scatter them in his hometown near where I live. I am hoping his wife will also want the same for my son's ashes but that is her choice to make. Thank you for showing us the proper way to scatter them and some important points as well. God bless and guide us all in our journey to our final ash and spiritual destination. 🙏💕
I spread my Father's ashes this past June. Where he is isn't exactly the easiest place for me to visit, (1400 miles away then an hour hike), BUT I am at peace with my decision because I know how much he loved the area I spread his ashes. I'm not going to be around forever, so, why make it someplace I'd want?
i want my remains on the moon
Tony Montana good luck bro
Same
i want mine shot into the sun
You can now, for only $12,500.. but I don't think they can scatter them there , just leave your Remains inside a Small Lipstick Size capsule on the Moon..
@@dennisthemenance5433 Seriously?
That is true. The family may know simply the general whereabouts of the scattering, and that may not be enough for them. A specific resting spot to visit is what cemeteries are for, and many are expanding their offerings for keeping cremated remains in niches, in mausoleums, and in-ground burial.
Come on, Dude.
Let's go bowling.

Hi Steve: Sorry to hear about your mum's passing. It depends where you live. A body of water is a nice option to consider.
If it's important to have a place to visit her ashes, perhaps you might consider keeping her ashes in a niche or a dedicated grave space in a cemetery?
Thank you for the info , will help me in 2022
Thank you so much Gail. 🙂
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
@@GailRubin Scattered my mom’s this morning. 💕
I am going to scatter my grandads ashes in the four corners of Ireland this summer. Thanks for the video this really helped 😊
Amy Loughrey good luck my friend. I scattered a relative's ashes in Ireland last month

I hope to have most of the family to join me with a small container of my husband's ashes to throw into his rose garden.

Make sure the wind does not blow them back at ya.

I want my remains in a firework rocket so that my children can take them to my favourite beach where I was born and send me out to sea with a bang.
Hi Gail, I want to scatter some of my father's ashes in a couple of weeks. what do you suggest doing with the bag once it's empty? It doesn't seem right just to throw it in the trash when there is still residue of the ashes in it.
Laura Roehl Thanks for the question! You might bring a bottle of water to rinse the bag. Or, if you are at a location where there's a body of water, turn the bag inside out and swish it around. Or, consider building a fire at a campsite or back home, where you could ceremonially burn the bag.
thank you
You're welcome
I want my remains to be some kept and some spread in the jungle in Costa Rica.

I am struggling with a PLACE to sprinkle my mums ashes - she passed 3 months ago R.I.P.
it's hard
I have the ashes of my wife but they are NOT ashes like you see in films so I cannot scatter them. They are large lumps, easily identifiable as bones and I dread to think what would happen if I scattered them somewhere and someone found them. Do crematoriums have different ways of breaking the remains, with some making them smaller than others? Or is there some way that I can have them broken down to a dust size?
Hi Martin: You might be able to have your wife's cremated remains further processed to make the bone fragments smaller. Call around to your local cremation providers and ask if they can do that for you.
@@GailRubin Hi Gail. Thanks for the reply. I didn`t know something like that was possible so I shall certainly try that. (If this lockdown ever ends, obviously!)
@@martinf8508 The machine to do it is called a pulverizer. I thought it was standard procedure. I'd start with the crematory who did the service and ask why it wasn't done.
I have always wanted to scatter my ashes in the top of the Sandias. I stumbled on this video and find it very informative. I know the Catholic church allows cremation, yet states that scattering is not condoned. Does anyone know if scattering ashes is a 'sin' in the Catholic church, or simply not suggested?
According to a priest who runs a Catholic cemetery, It's not considered respectful of the body to scatter the ashes. If it's something you wouldn't do to a body, you wouldn't do it to the cremated remains. It's preferred to give those cremated remains a permanent final resting place, as you would a body.
archives.sspx.org/against_sound_bites/cremation.htm
So, as best I can understand, the Catholic Church does not like the idea of scattering ashes; however, it is not a sin. Therefore, I will more than likely opt to have my ashes scattered.
TE S I'm not sure if it's a sin or not. Best thing to do is contact a reliable priest.
I wish my ashes could be scattered here
Do not want someone falling down on me from a mountain above.
Amen to that!
May your mother r.i.p and you to have the power to stay in faith my prayers are with you! Light a Candle and little cup of water for her Journey god bless you and your mom. I will pray for you right now. Hang in there. be well and she will be happy if your happy! bye!
I don't like the idea of scattering ashes, because there is no grave to visit. Once the ashes have been scattered, all remains of the deceased person disappear forever.
I understand your feelings; however, this is one of the reasons that I want to be scattered on a specific mountain that is visible from my home. That way, every time my family looks at the mountain, they may remember me. I would rather have this than my family sitting in the grass by a headstone and then feeling obliged to visit me (or what used to be me) on every special occasion to leave flowers or whatever. I'm not saying it is wrong or right, it is just how I feel.
Hi Carly, my brother was planning to scatter the ashes of our parents, without consulting the siblings, and contrary to my Mom's stated wish to be "buried." I told him to please send me the ashes and I would bury them. My wife and I did so at a reputable cemetery. We feel very good about this and we wish that my siblings would have understood the virtue in fulfilling Mom's desire. And like you say, there is now a place (a niche), a plaque with their names (and a Bible verse), a place where they are remembered and honored. We visit there from time to time. I discovered later that my brother actually disdains our parents; he seems to have wanted to use "scattering" as a way of making them disappear forever, like getting revenge. So happy I was able to cut this off at the pass. God bless you dear!
My great great grandpa ashes are in a Ashe chamber I’m asian
Whose ashes did you scatter in this video?
What was scattered was dirt from my garden - no actual ashes were used in the making of this video.
You know what you should have done instead of just spraying into the air? You should make those ashes into pottery.
Kiyoshi Amaterasu That would be so awesome. Good idea.
Garen Dirt for Demostration only

It's sounds funny 😅
I came from Shane's old video
answered my question. Hands ok? and can you just chunk from the plastic bag itself.
Yes and yes.
9 years and 2 months late, but finally gunna get rid of the 3lbs that i have
Chris Banana haven’t you seen grownups movie, when they scattered the couch ashes with the hands..
I'd wished I my cats Steve's ashes in something I could spread his ashes
When my nan passes on she wants her ashes scattered in a bush at a cemetery but I don’t want her to leave
Don't we all want to have our loved ones with us as long as possible?
I'm kind of afraid of spreading my grandmothers ashes.
What are you afraid of?
not sure how I got here, but I'd prefer to just get chucked out in the woods for the bigger animals ..
Thanks for the tips, Gail. Pretty sure that's human ashes tho, rest in peace whoever you are ❤
Actually, I used dirt from my garden for this example.

What are ashes
Also known as cremated remains, they are the bone fragments that are left after cremation.
I was a baby
did you really spread ashes on camera?
No, the material was garden dirt from my yard.
It's just a thought right now, but when I die I may wanna be cremated.
Don't let it fly just pour them around a tree.
I don’t want my ashes scattered!
Then let your loved ones know what you DO want!
I so want my organs donated after I die, and my ashes scattered. Now, if my family can afford it (God and Goddess forbid if I happen to go before my parents,) then another option I like is to have myself frozen in liquid nitrogen and then shattered and placed in a biodegradable pot and have a tree planted over it. Or of even more possible, have half my ashes spread on the Moon.
Have you ever seen how they"Use your organs"? Watch 1st and you may change your idea to do that..I feel, until they will pay your family or a Chrity for your organs to help others or for reserach? Ain't gonna happen.. They make a Fortune on your Organs..Look it up
You've been watching too many movies.
thats dirt
Scattering them?
That's a waste of perfectly good food!
