How would you set up a rain barrel collection system for homes that can see 0°F in the wintertime?

There are some attachments that come with a plug so you can eliminate the water running into the barrels and continue down the spout as it would originally. Then just ensure your barrels are drained and you'd be good for winter

What about places where it freezes?

You could always heat trace, but probably just draining and leaving open during the winter would be the best idea.

Are those vents on top of the barrels? Do they seal when the water gets to the top?

Hi Danny - yes, every barrel is vented. Our downspout diverter includes automatic overflow handling. That gets installed just below the vents so there's never any leakage. All rain barrels need to have carefully-planned ventilation, overflow handling, and balanced inflow/overflow. Please visit bluebarrelsystems.com for more info, and contact our customer service team if you have more questions!

@@bluebarrel Thanks. I put mine in years ago and didn’t design them properly. I have a diverter and daisy chained them together at the bottom. My mistake was installing the diverter about a foot higher than the tops of the barrels. I need to relocate the diverter and add vents.
