kiwi here. This is absolute horse shit. We're not bouncing back from shit. Our economy is fucked. Most including the middle class here are being absolutely ROBBED by supermarkets, taxes, rates increases, high mortgage rates, high fuel costs etc. Crime is on the rise. Everybodies struggling. Only the rich are ok but nobody else has spare money to spend so more shops close and unemployment rises even higher.
How much of this is recent growth is merely from population growth increasing the labor inputs? Simply new arrivals earning (and spending) at the incomes and productivity of New Zealand. It adds a lot to GDP statistics and certain entrenched interests like those who buy and hold unproductive assets like land and homes.
Im ok because its ok day tomorrow, 12 Sept I have a mortgage a job that services it a loving tight family and food in my house clothes and a car, not all doom and gloom, keep your head up only worry about nothing cause its nothing to worry about.

Where are you getting these numbers from? according to statsnz the NZ economy shrunk in the last quarter of 2023?
