I can still remember seeing a blue and white Carlton road bike at Syvesent bike shop in NY City in June of 1967 . I have owned a dozen steel road bikes since then and still ride to stay in shape.
in about 1968 there was a boy in my vilage in ormesby near middlesbrough with a all chrome carlton green bottom bracket weinmann centre pull brakes and campagolo 10 speed gears fabulous looking bike wonder what happened to it .
Sorry I missed your question. Carlton made a few models over the years, that they named the Kermesse but you say yours has a Raleigh head badge. Best bet is to join our Carlton/Raleigh owners Group on facebook & show us a few pictures - we'll be glad to help with dating it etc ;-) facebook.com/groups/1495959500629283/
I have a Carlton Cobra that i got in or around 1966, i am just re furbishing it some 53 years later, any one know if the spindle in the bottom cranck set is equal, or longer on one side
I'm not sure, but I installed a modern square tapered cartridge. on Jis standard. I'll try to pick some cranks from ebay. I have all the old parts in jars with oil in my garage.
I worked summers at a bike shop back then that featured Raleighs, and the owner of the shop managed to get his hands on one (I doubt many made it to the States). Very good looking but with an interesting set of components, none of them Italian as I recall.
