Yeah, this was what I was struggling with. He treats his second wife like shit, and this is never reconciled in anyway throughout the rest of the film. How am I supposed to love this character?
@666deadman1988 that's why Andrew Garfield(the best friend) saved that element for me. I wasn't much a fan of the movie but Garfield was hernest enough that I could at least root for the guy during the whole thing.
you don't have to want to be friends with the main character to like the film...
Just watched this film. I found it really powerful.
is any character woody allen ever played especially likeable though? enough said
Not being able to like the main character was the exact same reason 'The Social Network' didn't work for me.
You weren't supposed to like the main character lol
You got the Satire of the book
@TheConciseStatement Sideways is my favourite film. I love Miles in that film.
@skinwalkerxxx Yeh I suppose I have to agree. But one good performance can't save an entire film.

And that's the point of the novel
Ditto!
reminds me a lot of Greenberg....
Wow
As someone who thinks they're incredibly brilliant and proves it by never finishing anything, I can tell you that I did not like this movie.
FIRST!
I'm intelligent and grumpy but I don't think I'd enjoy it. Not enough car chases.
Almost never agree with Mark Toilet. This may be the beginning of my career as a more insightful critic. And I will thank him for that.
