Such a beautiful car Joe, someone will love it. Mustang V6 is such a good car especially 3.7 has tons of potential. Thanks for making a fair review instead of just bashing it😎👍👍
V6 owner here. You get a V6 for these reasons: 1: Can't Afford V8 car note 2: Can't afford V8 insurance 3: First real sports car (we don't need people's first sports car to be some 400+up V8) 4: You like doing things the hard and different way. Getting a V6 to perform at a high level COSTS and takes HELLA time. There's no upgraded trim or performance packages for it. 5: You care more about handling than power. Not many people who look into mustang fall into this category. I still think it's a good option for anyone, but it is a base model
shallow way to look at it. The 4 banger and the v6 has always been a much bigger seller than the V8. And the 2010-14 you could get performance packs on them and have them fully loaded with leather etc. And stock for stock the V6 is better than even the 4 banger for quite a few reasons. Not to mention it made more HP than the outgoing 4.6 V8. Some people just buy the car for the looks not the power. Most of us here are all car guys so we want power but lets be honest everything comes down to cost. If we all had our way wouldn't we all drive GT500 or 350, or Ferrari's etc?

@@treatyourself7965 lets not forget the v6 had 5 more horsepower than 300 in 2011 to 2014. the 3.7 also managed to squeeze 30mpg highway in 2011 to 14. they tuned the 3.7 in 2015 and up to have 5 horsepower less to seem like less of a competitor to the ecoboost. also the 2011 to 14 weighed less because they used the older suspension. imo 3.7 2011 to 14 stangs would take ecoboosts 9 times out of 10.
Ben Walsh it’s not the same VQ series 3.7L in the Nissan. This is a Ford developed 3.7L engine called the Cyclone (aka Duratec) with the same displacement as the Nissan.
I own the 2016 V6 mustang and for me it’s definitely enough power. I’m only 22 and been driving my parents cars since I was 17 and they were all old cars from early 2000s and just family cars like a minivan and a pickup truck so this was a big change for me. For sure a V8 would be more fun and sounds better but if you ain’t got the money then definitely don’t stress and just get the V6, it’s amazing.
21 here and just got mine yesterday it is definitely worth it I was in your same position anyone else thinking about it DO IT you will not regret it it’s more than enough power and it’s beautiful
Ford really needs to bring back the V6, I have been saving for a used one right now! I can't wait to get one of my own! Thank you so much for your videos!
Hey man, not sure why this didn’t show up any sooner. I got my V6 Mustang brand new last year. And I have been in love with this car from the very first day I saw it at the dealer. This car being a base model makes things a lot easier for repairs, upgrades and etc. I hate the radio as much as you do but, found someone that for 1k swaps it out for the 8” sync 3 one. Same thing with the rest of the interior: front seats are plug and play, if you want to swap electric ones or just go for a nice leather cover. Performance wise, we all know how modular Mustangs are. Lastly, the community and support there is both locally and globally. Cheers from Dominican Republic!
I’ve got a 2015 V6 mustang, at first I was only going to buy it bc of the price and the cost of maintenance. But it was my first vehicle with more then 140 horse power, so when I test drive it I found out quickly that any more power and I might just become part of the crowd killer club. So I’m glad I got the V6 to learn to drive the mustang and handle that kinda power. If I got the GT I probably would of crashed it once retry quick
I own the 2017 v6. Bought new now has 24k miles. This review is spot on I couldn’t add to it. I don’t mind the small screen. Oh and don’t forget unlike the GT or Ecoboost the 6 does NOT require premium fuel :) and speaking if fuel, mine with the auto never fails to pull 31 mpg at 70 mph. Thanks for the video you ought to sell cars you’re knowledgeable and well spoken
Okay so update. I bought the 2016 V6 in March 2021. It crashed in South Beach. Now I'm getting the V8 Challenger. I never thought I'd owned these cars, but if you believe as a dreamer you can and will acheive many things in life. True story!
I have a 2017 V6 and I get almost 26 mpg average, and that's with me playing here and there. I really like mine, it's quick and fuel efficient and many people say it handles better than the GT because it's lighter in the nose because it doesn't have the 5.0
Hey Joe, great video once again....I own a 2018 ecoboost , but did own 2 S 197 V sixers. It is not only always about the power, it is mostly what makes you happy. Thank you for always showing the different options that are available to all the Mustang members.
Hey Joe, great review as always. Although this model doesn’t have it, the 2015-2017 V6 mustangs do offer an optional 051A package that comes with 18 inch premium rims, fog lights, rear spoiler and power driver’s seat. That’s what I bought and they look way better than just the standard base model V6. Also this package was available on all 2015-2016 V6’s but only available on the 2017 convertible, not the coupe.
Have a 2016 V6 Mustang white with chromium looking mag rims......... runs fine.Did not want an eco boost with all that compression pressure in that tiny block which also has turbo pressure added to it.Does the job. Had two Camaros a Dodge Challenger and a Trans Am so already got all that out of my system. My brother had that Mustang with the straight six. Mustangs are alright
I own the 2015 with the 3.7 litre V6 and have no problem with power. Since I live in Canada I don't have the roads to really open it up. The speed limit on our "401" is a paltry 100kmh or 60 MPH. Having said that I have had no problem exceeding that limit. I wouldn't admit to going 75kmh over the limit or 109 MPH but the gas pedal was not all the way to the mat. Hypothetically. This mustang is one of the best and most reliable cars I have ever owned.
I have a 2016 gt premium. It had almost 7k in options when it was new. Best car I've ever had. But I'm interested in seeing him review an AWD challenger.
I have a V6 and in no way is it a downgrade. A 3.7 liter V6 is not a small engine! It has plenty of power (305 horsepower RWD). I can speak from experience the Mustang is a great car, you won't be disappointed. Keep in mind you can always add upgrades, from simple throttle controllers all the way up to custom exhaust/intakes etc. Since he mentioned the badging I'll go ahead and point out I've seen 3.7 badges (which can be purchased anywhere online). Again a 3.7 is nothing to sneeze at - if you've always wanted a Mustang go get one! 😃
The comedic anecdotes are worth the price of admission! Okay, so the Twinkie reference should be a standard evaluation criteria going forward - Let's call it the "Twinkie Scale" how many Twinkies can fit before the cream shoots out. ;) BTW, YES, I like reviews of trim levels of cool cars that the everyday working Joe can afford. Great work!
I love my 2017 Mustang V-6: 21mpg around town, 28mpg on highway; burns 87 octane; metal oil and transmission pans; only needs 6 quarts of oil for a change; and best of all, port-injected engine--no need for an oil catch can! This V-6 can hit a buck without even breaking a sweat.
It's a starter Mustang for those on the fence about the experience. That tiny infotainment system was clearly designed to be a throwaway for the rental car agencies, though. Find a Premium Package V6 trim and you'll get a much better SYNC 3 infotainment system that's a little more what you would expect in modern vehicles these days.
I went from 2.0 4 cylinder Ford focus with a 5 speed manual to a 2016 3.7L V6 with a 6 speed manual. 305 hp as opposed to 140. So v6 or not it was a whole different level. I hauls ass off the off ramps down the interstate. Its fine guys it will save you some money.
Thanks for this. Been wanting a Mustang for a very long time. Was going to get a manual Eco back in 2015, but preferred the drive of the V6. I eventually passed on it. I know enough GT owners that I can rent or borrow one. I also prefer something less conspicuous than the GT that I can also take to the track and work to go fast. I don’t need as much torque as the GT offers. I love it mostly for the looks and the drive. I’ll consider a automatic GT once I retire. But for now, manual V6 would be my choice.
@@seanbrittain4542 Exactly lol are you in the Cyclone 3.7L Mustang group on Facebook? I just recently joined. It’s a great crowd and I’m learning a lot
It’s a shame Ford stopped the 3.7. I have a 2016 3.7 with a pro-charger making 500hp to the wheel, yes 500hp to the wheel, and it’s my daily driver. I’m in health care and put a lot of miles on my car. By the end of the week, the odometer will trip over 100k miles. I’ve had the pro charger installed for over 3 years and probably over 70K miles, zero issues. The 3.7 is a rock solid engine and even with the pro charger, I average 21 mpg in highway and city driving.
I stumbled on this. The V6 Mustang is a wonderful daily driver. Mod potential is huge if you want to go that route. If not, it's still a wonderful ride. decent economy and decent power. I have a 2018 Manual GT as my DD, but I used to own a Manual 2014 V6 and it was nice. I hate how people look down on the V6 Mustangs.
A lot of people crash these cars because their first one is a 5.0 L V8 with over 400 hp and torque ... this has plenty of power for everyday use. My first one was a 2016 v6 you’ll appreciate the GT for sure though
I agree with you. I have a 2017 Mustang V-6 and was toying with the idea of trading up to a Challenger or Charger 6.4 (Only because the new Mustang GTs have plastic oil and transmission pans.) Test driving the Dodges seems like a real chore. It was always more relaxing to get back into my Mustang.
I have had a Kona Blue/saddle interior 2012 3.7L 6-speed Mustang since new. It has 110K miles now. It was a lot of fun to drive even with the tall 2.73 stock rear. I installed a Procharger, 3.73s, and Roush exhaust. I drive it very frequently even though I also have a ‘19 GT350. The 3.7L is a great, robust motor and with the Procharger is a missile capable of mid 12s quarter mile, with dyno’d 485 hp and 394 ft-lb at the flywheel. It also corners very well. My total investment in it has been around $35K. I’ll have it forever!
The same year Camaro V6 has better handling and more power. I had one with the 8 speed auto, walked every V6 Mustang out there and even some of newer Ecoboost. I miss it a lot.
A Stanton1966 every journalist or guy that drives the Camaro once complaints about the visibility, 99% of Camaro owners get used to the visibility and don't care if it's bad because it's what makes the car look cool, oh and nobody buys a Pony car for the trunk space.Your argument is invalid.
I’m 22 and planning on buying this as my first car. Although power and the way it sounds is definitely something I look into, I am a mostly looking to make it my daily driver and hoping it can last me at least 5 years. I’m aware that there are so many options that are more efficient for a daily driver but a Mustang is my dream car, ever since i’ve been a little kid playing street racing games on my ps2 I’ve wanted one.
I’m 20 years old and I’m hoping to get this car as my first car because I really loved on how the car aged so well. But the 2 things I don’t like is the tiny paddle shifters and the 4” screen.
A little high on the price, but it is a dealership, and for under $20K that's some good horsepower, and not all worn out. That V6 was so much hotter than the one in the previous S197 Mustangs, which had a 4.0 V6 with about 210 hp IIRC. Swap out those rims and beef up some suspension parts and it can keep up with the earlier S197 GT. Of course then the only question is- would you rather have a convertible?
That was the whole point of the car, it was Ford's way of going back to their roots, its silhouette and body lines are designed after the 65, obviously with a new face tho
I bought a 2017 Ecoboost and have never looked back. The Ecoboosts have better power and mpg (because that is what we all want in a muscle car lol) than their V6 counterpart, thus why the V6's have been discontinued.
@@lyndahammel9502 I have the Premium too. I test drove the other Ecboost with the smaller screen and didn't want to carry around a magnify glass every time I had to back up the car haha. I also got the performance pack 😎
I love the eco boost too but there are some key take aways with the v6 vs eco boost. 1. V6 makes 305HP prior to 2015 vs the eco bosst 310HP. But remember the v6 uses 87 octane and the eco only makes 310 if you use 93 octane which is like 30c higher a gallon. 2. The V6 power up top is a lot more potent than the stock eco boost. Anyone who drives an eco knows the power really dies off as you get up in RPMs and 50pmh - 100 is really lacking. 3. i had a new 2020 GT for a week and a 2020 ecoboost and when you get on them both hard, which i did the GT actually ended up with better gas milage than the ecoboost and they both require 93 octane! Just some things to note.
You will like your v6 until you meet anyone who knows anything about cars or best a car meet. I had one before and I was embarrassing to be honest even though I loved it at the time and was pretty fun. As soon as I could I got a 5.0. Good review joe glad you showed the v6 love !

I own a 2018 v6 camaro; let me give you guys a nugget. The 6th gen v6 camaro is a good bit faster than any other v6 sports car, including the mustang. However, the 3.7 liter mustang sounds unlike any other v6 out there. With exhaust work, you find it hard to tell between v6 and V8. It's the best sounding American v6 by far. Pretty dang fast too.
Yeah wish they would bring it back and give it all the upgrades like port and direct injection, increasing compression and reduce the weight a bit. It would be up there with 3.8 genesis and camaro V6.
I test drive a 2019 GT fast back and a eco boost both black and I must say the eco boost is no slouch...not at all..it had the prem package and all black and was sharp..
I have plenty to say about this Joe. Like you I like that year style too. Not that I’m buying or own one, I enjoy cars like you. I don’t like the Eco four. It sounds wimpy like the Camaro turbo four. I would buy a Camaro V6 which has gotten many good reviews. Ford could have improved on this comparatively speaking. With an improved V6, they could’ve kept it as a luxury trim level like the old Gaia used to be. Get the look and style of the Mustang but with the luxury flair. Would’ve been nice. Ford kept the basic V6 for the lower trim F150’s. What gives? To be their boss for a month huh?
I test drove the V6 s550 & I felt it was a slow heavy car. So I test drive the EcoBoost and absolutely loved it. I couldn't afford a V8 so I didn't bother test driving it. So I went with the EcoBoost. I paid it off in a year and now I have many mods. With a big turbo I'm almost at 500whp & 420-430wtq. That's V8 territory on my 4cyl stock block. For how long though, IDK 🤷🏽♂️. But I love the car🤙🏽🤘🏼👍🏼
Honestly that was the better option you went with. I personally bought a 19' GT. TheV6 isn't a bad engine but they way Ford set it up was very lackluster and made it the definition of a "rental" car. If they made it a twin turbo Ecoboost v6 like the raptor with performance parts, it would've been dope as hell
@@TheSocialPraxis for the most part Ford knows that a V6 is a viable option for the Mustang but to keep it "pure" for now, they leave it with V8 options. Look at the GT, they went against what was expected and designed the car with a V6 in mind. There were rumors of an electric mustang coupe, not the SUV, or even a hybrid. As much as I love my GT, if there was a hybrid powered V8 mustang, I would have to switch immediately.
The v-6 Mustang has enough power for 90% of all drivers. I have never owned a V-6 Mustang but I have owned a 68 Cobra Jet along with a bunch of 5,0, 351 Mustangs including the Coyote that I open tracked with. It has always been my opinion to buy what you plan on using not what other people think you need.
Great video and an interesting thought exercise. Yes, the GT exists and everyone (including me) likes a big shouty V8. But when you think about it, you get 300hp, RWD, avail. 6spd manual, and LSD. It not perfect but put this drivetrain in any other sports car at the same price point and the tone of the comment section changes dramatically. I could have great fun with a car like this.
In 2018 I was considering buying a used 2015-2017 V6 Mustang for pizza delivery, but you sit down really low in them, which is not compatible with my old knees, so I’ll keep driving Rangers or get a small SUV. I don’t want a car with a turbocharger which is quite expensive to replace if it failed.

I actually was going to buy the v6 mustang or a normal sedan.
So Joe or anyone who sees this, I saw a 2016 Mustang V6 going for about $25k with 80k miles on it on CarMax. Is that a good deal or i shouldn’t go for it?

v6 sounds better than the ecoboost at least!
You think so? I think I would go with the ecoboost. More torque more horsepower
V6 is going to be more reliable than the turbo over time
V6 sounds way better than the turbo 4. And much more reliable
agreed!
Idc who you are but 300 plus hp is good for a first car or your daily
This is very true!
Raiti's Rides it this engine the same one out of the Nissan 370Z or is it made by ford
Ben Walsh it’s not the same VQ series 3.7L in the Nissan. This is a Ford developed 3.7L engine called the Cyclone (aka Duratec) with the same displacement as the Nissan.
717 flyer ok cool I would be weird as the engine out of the 370z makes 350hp not 300
Ben Walsh the 370z makes 332 and the 370z nismo makes 350
I own the 2016 V6 mustang and for me it’s definitely enough power. I’m only 22 and been driving my parents cars since I was 17 and they were all old cars from early 2000s and just family cars like a minivan and a pickup truck so this was a big change for me. For sure a V8 would be more fun and sounds better but if you ain’t got the money then definitely don’t stress and just get the V6, it’s amazing.
21 here and just got mine yesterday it is definitely worth it I was in your same position anyone else thinking about it DO IT you will not regret it it’s more than enough power and it’s beautiful
@@Daily-Internet-Diary I might wait till I turn 22 to get it
You could always mod tf out of it ;)
Ford really needs to bring back the V6, I have been saving for a used one right now! I can't wait to get one of my own! Thank you so much for your videos!
did you ever get your v6?
Wow, this is making me lean towards the V6 and leave the V8 alone. I mean if the V6 has that power already and it's more economically good. Why not.

That Mustang looks fire
I have a 2017 V6 and I get almost 26 mpg average, and that's with me playing here and there. I really like mine, it's quick and fuel efficient and many people say it handles better than the GT because it's lighter in the nose because it doesn't have the 5.0
My ecoboost gets 18 max but it's also tuned so that's probably why
I get 16.4 in my v6 2015 🤣
I love the 8 Twinkies comment. Made me buy my V6 Stang based on that . Nice review. Everything you said is accurate.
Hey Joe, great video once again....I own a 2018 ecoboost , but did own 2 S 197 V sixers. It is not only always about the power, it is mostly what makes you happy. Thank you for always showing the different options that are available to all the Mustang members.
Sorry for a late reply but besides horsepower and torque is there any other difference between a v6 and v8?
V6 has the perfect balance of power and fuel efficiency.
I’m still in love with the 2015 front end.
The 17 S550 5oh is the best of the S550's. Almost 50k miles on mine and 0 issues!!
Gotta love Joe’s joke 😂
Thanks Miguel! That really means a lot man!
My stomach hurts from all the laughing 😭
You are AWESOME!! This was a great tour of the vehicle with a good honest, clear, attentive review.
I inherited a 2016 v6 mustang. It's paid for. I plan on keeping it and adding some bolt ons and tuning.
same here but with a ‘17
The comedic anecdotes are worth the price of admission!
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experience!
Wow, same efficienct as 4banger ecoboost. Never thought of it. They should bring back the v6.
Miles Traysandor the 2015-17 V6 never came in premium trim, base only. Only the I4 and V8 got a premium trim.
I had a 2015 V6 with some light mods headers, full exhaust and it was a fun little car but when I traded in for a 18 GT I never looked back.
Going to see one of these with only 17000 miles on it tomorrow. So excited!
My mom bought one today with 17000 miles on it. I gave her shit about getting a v6 but then I reviewed it. They are 5 second 0-60 cars they screw!!!
$19,995 would be a steal for that. Inflation on these is through the roof right now
Lightning blue is a beautiful colour choice for this Mustang 👍🏻
I like how in-depth joe is with his reviews I just hope RUclips’s notifications were better so I could be here early 😕
I am a chevy/caddy/buick guy all day......but this ford is very interesting
I am glad that you like this one!
It really is
300hp of natural asperated american horsepower in the 3.7 cyclone.
Bought a '16 V6 with the 18" wheel, spoiler, fog light package. It had 18,500 miles and I got it for $17,500! Love it!

I had a 15v6. For 2.5 years before stepping up to a 2018 GT. Miss that thing, the GT was so damn expensive.
My 2016 3.7 is not limited to 124 mph. Its completely stock besides a cold air intake, and I've gotten up to 160 mph quite easily.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
How much for the procharger? Contemplating at the very least adding a throttle body, and a catback..
Traded my 2015 v6 in for a 2014 6.4 core challenger. Really do miss the v6 honestly was more fun to drive.
I had a 2016 V6 Mustang. It had 300 horse power and got 23 mpg (city). It was a great balance of power and mpg.
I always love hearing what snacks you can store in the storage compartments
Great review like always.
Thanks Jack! I really appreciate your support!
8:43 Steve Carell, ''That's what she said'' 😂
The same year Camaro V6 has better handling and more power. I had one with the 8 speed auto, walked every V6 Mustang out there and even some of newer Ecoboost. I miss it a lot.
The Mustang has way better visibility and trunk space.
Nice looking mustang. I’d probably attempt to negotiate a better price. Excellent review Joe.
You have to always negotiate a better price no matter what.
I went with the 2018 EcoBoost 6-speed standard trans no complaints so far
I’m 22 and planning on buying this as my first car. Although power and the way it sounds is definitely something I look into, I am a mostly looking to make it my daily driver and hoping it can last me at least 5 years.
I’m aware that there are so many options that are more efficient for a daily driver but a Mustang is my dream car, ever since i’ve been a little kid playing street racing games on my ps2 I’ve wanted one.
That is so cool! I am glad that I can share this one with you!
Don't worry about reliability when buying a Mustang V-6. My mechanic said that my car will easily last to 150,00 miles with no trouble whatsoever.
I’m 20 years old and I’m hoping to get this car as my first car because I really loved on how the car aged so well. But the 2 things I don’t like is the tiny paddle shifters and the 4” screen.
You will love it!
@@RaitisRides yes I sure will. Mustangs are my go to cars when it comes to a tight budget or project cars.
I’m more of a “looks” person than an engine size person. I just wanna be able to customize it and cruise.
This Mustang reminds me of the 1965 Mustang 2+2! The body lines are quite similar.👍😎
So very true! Good call Ronald!
That was the whole point of the car, it was Ford's way of going back to their roots, its silhouette and body lines are designed after the 65, obviously with a new face tho
totally weird and unrelated but id love to know how much horsepower the ecoboost engine produces WITHOUT the turbo ?
ill take the V6 Mustang personally. great sound good gas mileage some people some of us don’t need all that power.
Nice review, Joe. Bargain price too. Now I am thinking V6 whereas yesterday I was solely an Eco Boost vs GT buyer. *sigh*
I know how you feel Jeff!
I bought a 2017 Ecoboost and have never looked back. The Ecoboosts have better power and mpg (because that is what we all want in a muscle car lol) than their V6 counterpart, thus why the V6's have been discontinued.
I have a 2017 EcoBoost premium. I had to have the larger screen and the premium options. It's a shame that Ford didn't offer those options on the V6.
6:23 looks like he’s doing another video where he is comparing this V6 to either a newer base model GT or maybe ecoboost

As a GT owner I do appreciate the brute force of the V8 but I have the 3.7L in my truck and it feels plenty powerful for that use.
I test drive a 2019 GT fast back and a eco boost both black and I must say the eco boost is no slouch...not at all..it had the prem package and all black and was sharp..
If you want the style without all the performance. Get the V6. No shame on it but that’s always been my viewpoint. Great video Joe!

This thing is a bit slower than the ecoboost but it truly sounds WAY BETTER and drives WAY SMOOTHER. A really good rental car choice.
That are some very good points! I really appreciate your sharing them!
best dessert ever, the original Suzy Q's , not the ones they make now , lol, great review as usual Joe...
@@fattygamer94 everybody wishes they would have done that but if they did the 5.0 would be pointless'ish...
I mean as soon as I get my life together I’m getting a V6
Great video and an interesting thought exercise. Yes, the GT exists and everyone (including me) likes a big shouty V8. But when you think about it, you get 300hp, RWD, avail. 6spd manual, and LSD. It not perfect but put this drivetrain in any other sports car at the same price point and the tone of the comment section changes dramatically. I could have great fun with a car like this.

Quick and important question could I change the touch screen for the mustang I don’t like how it’s 4 inch tall and I want it in 8 inch
I think this is what I’m gonna get. Its a sharp performance daily driver
I love mine. It has 3:55 posi rear and is quicker than your test model...equal power to muscle cars of the 70s at 300 HP!
They didn't offer the v6 with the premium package or I would have bought one.
They did I have my performance pack v6 with 3.31 gears and bigger brakes from factory
They should have made the Ecoboost Mustang V6
The problem is that would compete with the Gt in horsepower! If they can bump up the V8 hp next GEN that’s definitely what’s coming.
