The entire train is always traveling at the same speed no matter where you are on it. However, it likely is experiencing a different set of Gforces depending on where you sit. Making it feel like a different ride. The back has more lateral Gforces as the train approaches hills and loops. So by the time the back hits those hills, it has lost momentum causing less verticle G's on the uphill but more on the down as it picks up speed and you approach the crest. There's a difference between speed and Gforces.
For those who are curious, the front and the back go the same speed but the back feels a lot quicker because you get whipped around with momentum a lot more. Edit: it seems I have no idea how it truly works but I do know SOMETHING makes it feel faster and whip you around a lot more in the back than it does in the front. Edit 2: I finally know the true answer! When you go over the top of the hills in the front, you are going over it slower. But in the back you go over it at top speed so that’s why it feels like its going faster. You go over parts at different speeds hence the back feels faster than the front and you feel like you get whipped and pulled around a lot.
I believe it isn’t momentum that is greater but acceleration. Momentum equals mass multiplied by velocity and those are similar for everyone on the coaster. I think it feels faster due to the increased acceleration those in the back experience.
If the speed are the same so are the magnitudes of the momentum, if you are talking about whipping it’s more the change of the velocity direction which is an acceleration .
It's all about the Gs. I like the front better because of the visuals but I ride all coaters in the front and back because there is a noticeable difference in the ride.
That's a myth. They have the exact same acceleration, momenetum, speed, everything. The only reason why you feel like you get whipped around more on the back is both because 1. everyone says you do, so your observation conforms to that bias, and 2. your vision of whats ahead is a little bit more obstructed so you can't see exactly whats about to happen
The bit he said at the end is the real answer, the back seat would go faster at the top of the hill and the front will go slightly faster at the bottom (depending on whether it flattens out or goes back up). Whilst both seats obviously take the same amount of time to get from start to finish, the back seat will be traveling at top speed at the most important moments while the front will still be accelerating at those moments.
I get the make him put his phone down but why kick him out of the whole park. ( whatever you are about to reply has already been said 7 different ways. Check comments before responding)
I think it’s fair. It’s usually made really clear, that filming like that is disallowed, so it’s unlikely for anyone to break the rule unknowingly. Without being kicked out there’s nothing really stopping someone from just trying the same thing on any different ride and thats just a safety hazard the park does not want to risk.
In most states, it's actually against the law to film while on an amusement park ride, this is due to a number of factors, safety being the biggest one.
Typically if you put it away and they feel you're going to keep it up away they will start the ride back up. The video is edited but he may have tried to be sneaky about it.
I'm guessing it's just for the camera. He would have been warned and then he'd comply, I can't imagine Mark fighting the security to the point of being kicked out .. lol
PSA: Never take your phone or any other loose articles on a rollercoaster, the injures are reeeal badly and it’s the largest saftey concern with rollercoasters
The front and rear seats have significantly different sensations. This is because when sitting in the front, you have gone over the drop while the weight behind you is still going up against gravity, so you're dangling, then going through the bottom of a loop, you start going uphill while the weight behind is still pushing down due to gravity. Sitting at the back has the reverse ... you're still going up when the front is already accelerating down, so you get whipped over the top, and when going through the bottom of a loop, you're being pulled down by gravity while the front of the ride is already slowing on the uphill side. The most neutral position is in the middle.
If you're wondering why you can't film with a phone, it's because you can easily drop it even if you're holding tightly which leads there to being a chance of hitting someone and giving them lifelong injuries.
I know everyone’s talking about the science or the rally of people supporting him. But who else is just happy to see him and his son together, I’m glad he included him even if it was only for the opening clip

It is more subtle. Think on the direction change you get on the 1st big fall if you are on the back. It is at more speed than if you are on the front and thus you get more acceleration.
As a coaster head, the back is usually better because it has a slingshot effect where you are pulled back before being pushed forward however for pure speed, the front will always feel like you’re going the fastest.
I reccomend the back because you generally get more airtime. When the train goes over a camleback or is desending any drop, the train is picking up speed, so the further back in the train you are the faster you will be going at the highest point, making you change direction faster. On the other side of this: at the bottom of the hill you will be going slower than if you were in the front of the train because part of the train has already began it way into the next element, slowing the train down
I think the exact opposite. In the front the train has a higher speed starting the hill, which throws you up with more intensity due to inertia. it then pulls you down over a longer period of time as it slows down, before speeding up back again. In the back, your slowest speed will be just before the crest, making it so that you don't experience negative g's as strongly.
@@pinkchckn It all depends on the exact layout of the track and the spacing of the inclines but in general the front of the train will experience more positive Gs and the rear more negative Gs due to the draging or pushing affect of the opposite end of the train. The middle of the train will have the average effect of the end's extremes.
@@zach23izeas someone who worked there, it’s not really something you can ignore. The park would be buried in legal trouble if they didn’t follow the rules.
The front cart is being held back by the rear carts. Therefore it doesn’t achieve full speed before all the carts are over the “edge”. And is usually midway down the hill before it reaches full speed. The rear cart on the other hand will be dragged by the carts in the front, and will be achieved full speed from the top of the hill.
PSA: do not record on rides. this is a serious safety hazard regardless of how strong you think your grip is. mark rober doing it doesn't give you a green light; honestly, I would expect him to know better
Your are not understanding. At the apex of a drop the front will travel relatively slower over the apex as it’s the first to reach it. As the front goes over gravity begins to work, it quickly accelerates the front and therefore the rest of the train is pulled down, this means the people on the last cart (while still traveling at the same speed as the rest of the train) relatively goes faster over the apex as the weight from the front accelerates from gravity.

@@nicquintana1092 That's what I want to know. People just don't like cameras, I guess. But based on my conversation I had in email for six flags, it's due to copyright. Which I find kind of funny as I don't normally think you can't film on a ride due to copyright as I view that more for movies and music when it comes to copyright. They can protect the design from someone else using from building it but simply video recording should fall under fair use. 😅 But we should protest at theme parks that even prohibits the harness being used for cameras. Just the phone or selfie stick, I can understand for not being allowed because of dropping but a harness as well? Something needs to change. We need more people protesting to allow a harness being used on rides and rollercoasters. Sooner the better. 🙂
The whole coaster goes the same speed but the back gets the most air time and faster acceleration, while the front obviously gets the best view and on some coasters gives a smoother ride.

depends on the shape of the track. The seats on the outside of the majority of turns have to travel more distance in the same amount of time.
La voz de Zenitsu!!
That’s the Grizzly at Great America! 😢 such great memories
I THOUGHT it might be! Went there so often as a kid
Same... I've seen them stop the rides for phones before. :)
@@aslanzhao they be chasing that IROC certification
@@zach23izeif its part of iroc rules then they gotta follow🤷♀️
@@zach23izeas someone who worked there, it’s not really something you can ignore. The park would be buried in legal trouble if they didn’t follow the rules.
The front cart is being held back by the rear carts. Therefore it doesn’t achieve full speed before all the carts are over the “edge”. And is usually midway down the hill before it reaches full speed. The rear cart on the other hand will be dragged by the carts in the front, and will be achieved full speed from the top of the hill.
This is very informative!
"Take me instead" 😭
bro i like the fact the security guard also is a fan of him 🤣
The ride Mark Robert was Filming on in the beggining is Called Grizzly at California's Great America
And the one at the end is called RailBlazer
Yes! I’ve been going to that park since I was little
@@ShadowzXPhantazmaI used to work there, it’s still Grizzly, the ride has both red and blue trains.
I thought for sure he was at Canada's Wonderland on Wilde beast (older, same design) at first but the rest of the park didn't look familiar
Not it was at kings island
@@kolby169 same, thought it was the wood one at the start.
PSA: do not record on rides. this is a serious safety hazard regardless of how strong you think your grip is. mark rober doing it doesn't give you a green light; honestly, I would expect him to know better
I expected he's gonna rap at the end because it rhymed so nicely as he went "gotta wrap this up.." 😜 🤣 🤣
The front seat is the most exciting seat and the scariest seat 😅
the back is scarier bc you basically fly out of the seat half the ride
The middle is best because it's not that bad but also you can't see the fron
@@themanbehindthebananas literally the worst seat.
Ride steel vengeance and then try and say the back isn’t the best. You can’t.
“They go the same speed but go to the back because it goes faster”
"...faster over the top."
Your are not understanding. At the apex of a drop the front will travel relatively slower over the apex as it’s the first to reach it. As the front goes over gravity begins to work, it quickly accelerates the front and therefore the rest of the train is pulled down, this means the people on the last cart (while still traveling at the same speed as the rest of the train) relatively goes faster over the apex as the weight from the front accelerates from gravity.
i love how the "plz put your phone away" was said so calmly
I'm shocked they actually stopped the ride 😂
It’s pretty common actually. Bringing a phone on a ride is a safety hazard because it could slip out and hit someone
I remember when I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s, my dad would bring his big, bulky VHS video camera on roller coasters. 😂
Guy’s an ex-NASA engineer and he doesn’t consider the possibility of him dropping his phone during the ride and hitting someone behind him. 💀
Still not worth them kicking him out imo. I understand it's a risk but thats just a bit overboard, no?
@hakuryu5874 not a overboard when the guy gets hit maybe get brain damage saying the ride is fast and the phone is decently heavily then sues Mark and the roller coaster (mark for causing the damage and roller for not preventing Mark)
@@grapehub1649 but the chances of getting brain damaged from a flying phone are *astronomically* low. We're talking decimals.
@@SpicyRen I would say otherwise saying that the rides are fast so it would slip easily and could be far worse if your palms are sweaty, But if you were the company of the roller coaster would you take chances on getting sued for something you could of prevented by simply asking him to put it away or let him have it and have a slim chance of hitting somebody and getting sued as well as cost you a lot of money in the back end.
@@hakuryu5874I am with you but it is better to be safe than sorry. I was just at SeaWorld Orlando and while I was riding Manta, the guy in front of us (who was filming a pov) dropped his phone and if it weren’t for the seats being in the flying position, it could have easily hit us.
Mark: The front seat is faster!
You really feel the g-force at the back when you first go down on peaks. Its more how fast you reach the maximum speed
That doesn't mean its faster though
wow the grizzly was actually running when you were there. thats a miracle
What park is this?
@@draxx8107 looks like great america
Literally same with railblazer

What a wholesome interaction.
You’ve got a new fan!
My science teacher in my highschool in sweden mentioned you as the source of where he learned what he was teaching us.
I rode the grizzly with my friends all the time, and I always came to Great America.
And I always love this amusement park!
I love grizzly! Second best at the park! (Behind project 305)
Same, I’ve been on every ride there
They announced that they’re closing in the next 10 years. Place is basically my childhood. Real sad
Bye the way sneaking your phone on CAN and HAS gotten ride operators fired. Don't do that.
I work at a theme park myself and I can confirm!
I think I will
The last seat of course is the fastest, as the train is pulling the speed up til it goes over the top!
Congrats at 50mil😊
I guess the answer is the Front. With camera in hand, it is the faster seat to get you thrown out of the park!
Could have worn a chest mounted GoPro and achieved not getting kicked out
Still not allowed at most parks
Why? @@RyanBischoffPercussion
You still need permission from the park
@@nicquintana1092 The copyright of the on ride often belongs to the Park and the park has to really check if your set up is secure and not damaged.
But we should protest at theme parks that even prohibits the harness being used for cameras. Just the phone or selfie stick, I can understand for not being allowed because of dropping but a harness as well? Something needs to change. We need more people protesting to allow a harness being used on rides and rollercoasters. Sooner the better. 🙂
The front is for the view, the back is for the feels.
Bro went to Carowinds
Never thought id see mark on grizzly 😂
Fr at great America too
Thinking the same thing lol
That security was so happy to meet you what a great guy.
Kicked out was overkill.
I would say last because front pulls you forward

I just wanna appreciate how many language caption options you have for this short ❤
Pretty sure it’s so that if any person would drop their phone, it wouldn’t hit the person behind at like Mach speeds.
The whole coaster goes the same speed but the back gets the most air time and faster acceleration, while the front obviously gets the best view and on some coasters gives a smoother ride.
