Looking at an 08 equinox for my 17 yr old daughter. I’m a back yard mechanic, I could do this. My question is, what is you’re opinion of the equinox? 05 thru 09 body style? Anything to look out for?
Last winter, on a friend's '07 Equinox, I had to disassemble the whole friggin dash to find a dead "blend door" actuator/motor (the reason she had no heat.) She was smelling antifreeze, so I went a little deeper to replace the heater core (it had pinholes in it.) Most shops charge $1500-$2000 for that job. -- It was a royal pain to disassemble. "Engineers" are purposely making U.S. vehicles more difficult to do "maintenance/repair." I have an '89 Jeep Cherokee that I am keeping roadworthy for as long as possible (doing 99% of the work myself.) If I ever buy another vehicle it will be another "older" vehicle or a Toyota. Subarus are great until they break down: they are "pain"-to-work-on vehicles. -- You might check out YT-channel "Scotty Kilmer"s videos on Buy/Don't-Buy tips.
