The only thing that might be missing is that the Vehcile’s transmission fluid temperature has to be between 185 F - 203 F when checking for the correct fluid level on the (check plug) /(side plug) . Or else you can over / under fill it if it’s not in the correct temperature
Thank you. Need to do this on my 2018 Equinox this weekend starting to get some slipping. Hopefully this helps before getting the dealer to do further inspection of the shift solenoids and clutch packs.
@elcaminosunlimited It is a simple drain and fill. Takes less time then the engine oil chamge does. I was shocked at how discolored the fluid was at the first drain at 5000 miles.
When you DRAIN your Transmission fluid the ENGINE needs to be turned OFF . ( DRAIN FLUID /ENGINE OFF) then reinstall the drain plug at this point you will add 3 quarts of Transmission fluid with the ENGINE OFF. and then you will START your ENGINE When you are CHECKING your Transmission fluid the ENGINE IS ON / RUNNING ( CHECK FLUID / ENGINE RUNNING ) I hope this was helpful.
So would this be the same procedure and specs for the 6 speed transmission? I also was going to replace the transmission filter and needed the torque specs on the transmission pan bolts to do that, do you have that info as well?
I heard the trans has to be removed to change the filter. I haven't verified. I have to do my 2019 6-speed. I have access to the info for that. I can follow up after I look through it.
Use what it says in the traverse owners manual also measure what you take out and how much to put back in. If your not sure use your VIN and contact your local service dealership for fluid information if your not sure
my Equinox is AWD. Is this on a AWD Equinox. I know they take 1 more quart of oil than a 2 WD. I was wondering if the trans is the same. I guess there is no filter?
The check plug or ( fluid level plug ) was a pain in the butt to take off once I had the car on . I should’ve left the top cap off 😂💀. Maybe next time I’ll lose it a little bit before turning the car on
I would make sure to break free (not remove) the check plug before draining the fluid. In the factory (as well as dealerships and oil change places), for some reason people way over torque those plugs. 9ft pounds (or 108 inch lbs) is not very much. Make sure you have the correct torque wrenches. You don't want to risk not being able to remove it, then over filling or under filling your transmission.

My 19 Blazer has the 9 speed same procedure I do every 5000. Hoping it will last.

I use the GM Genuine Dexron VI full synthetic ATF or if not the ACDELCO Dexron VI
Is there a trans filter we can R & R ?
yes it has an internal transmission filter but it requires removing the transmission
So theres no dipstick or anything to actually check the level of the fluid?
There is no check stick and almost every Auto manufacturer has went to this.
So, to drain, engine is on, to fill, engine is off, to check levels , engine is on correct??

I removed the check plug and about 2.5 quarts came out is this normal? The car was level filling and checking with the check plug
You are supposed to have it running when you open it to check it, you might be low now...
When i pull the check plug to check the level does it need to be cold or running at operating temperature?
I noticed the engine was running while checking fluid level?? I guess that's so the torgue is full??

The filter might be inside the transmission housing
